mega thread Metal Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I'm most likely going to share it regardless since...well, metal is metal, even if it's not 100% professional sounding. I'll actually be spending this Saturday with our guitarist mixing and mastering the song in question to the best of our abilities, and then release it ASAP. I'll be sure to link everypony once we get it up. smile.png

Dude, we love local and unheard of bands here especially if you're a user  of the thread. Share it with us some time, we'd love to hear it. I posted my guitar playthrough of Scarlet by Periphery yesterday.

Jane Doe by Converge was one of the best albums I've heard in a looong time.

Highly recommend it to anyone ever.

Jane Doe is a damn masterpiece, Converge are fucking awesome. Jane Doe is the greatest Metal album anyone could ever touch....at least in my opinion. I agree that everyone needs to listen to that album.

Why was I not aware of this album? It's pretty typical Devy stuff, but that's all you need from Devy. Plus it's got an older version of Kingdom, my favorite off of Epicloud.

I think I prefer the Epicloud one a bit more.

Now that's a lot of squee you got goin' on there gentleman.

I saw To Live Is To Die being posted, so I figure I'll post my favourite Metallica instrumental too.

I love how all thrash bands of the olden days have really, really bad album art.

Call of Ktulu is pretty cool, but To Live Is To Die and Orion are definitely my favorite Metallica instrumentals. Dat bass solo in Orion...omg ;_;

Wait, wuuuuuuut.

Is this going to be a trend now? I feel kinda hipsterish now :/

It'd work with some of the other regulars.  TobeaSquee, Squeejenty, HalfSquee.

I actually prefer these guys without their vocals.  He seems overdone.

Ughhh... I can't believe I wasted my time typing up this thread http://mlpforums.com/topic/58952-mlp-forums-greatest-albums-of-all-time-rules-in-the-op/#entry1418557 just so nobody can reply to it.

Well it is extremely hard to only choose one album, especially for those like me who listen to a lot of different genres and sub-genres. You should raise the number to 2 or 3 albums per each person.

Anyways have some Neurosis

It's one album per post, but you can make as many posts as you want as long as you don't post twice in a row. I think I've made it clear, but I can see what might have confused you ;)

Woah. Speaking of Devin Townsend, I just listened to Addicted a while ago. I have to say I like it better than Epicloud. Still like Strapping Young Lad better overall.

And yeah, silly thrash artistry. I don't understand though why bigger bands who can pay people to make some really good digital album art never release the official art online. Instead there's just some really blurry or tiled cover shots available instead. Is there a reason for them not to upload the best quality online when they start shipping out CD's?

Though the guy who did Machine Head - Unto the Locust uploaded it onto deviantart. I wish more people would do that.

Well, looks like this dropped today. I'm pretty torn over which vocalist I like better, personally...

New:

Old:

Recording quality is a bit better, but I still don't think this was necessary.

To be honest, I usually prefer the music without vocals if it's available. There's usually alot that the vocalist covers up.

To me, Addicted was better overall but felt a little bit dragged out. I get bored of it about 3/4 of the way through.

I'm on a Grief overdose today. Maybe its because life is so dull right now, maybe its the gloomy weather or maybe its because I'm out of fucking cigarettes and broke. Probably all three.

They have the best lyrics for when you feel bad:

Every little thing goes wrong
Frustration builds as time drags on
24 hours never felt so long
You can't wait for this day to be gone

You'll make it through you know you will
Despite all those you want to kill
Life goes on and so will you
Many more days of misfortune

FINALLY SOMEONE BRINGS UP THIS POINT. One thing I noticed about Epicloud is that when compared to Addicted, it doesn't have nearly as much replay value. I could probably listen to Resolve, Universe In A Ball, Hyperdrive or The Way Home separately (or the whole album in general) and I would still be interested. With Epicloud, everything has to connect with each other, meaning that some songs may sound weird when first listening to it (I'm looking at you, Save Our Now...).

The transitions break the flow of the album, and its because of that reason I sometimes find more enjoyment in the demos from Epiclouder instead.

...I swear, if he pulls that kind of stunt with Casualties of Cool, I'm gonna be real mad...

Would what Lich King did for Born of the Bomb count as well? There's a Facebook album dedicated to the making of the album art, before the album release.

Why was I not aware of this album?

Because not even Devy likes Physicist. The funny thing about the album is that it was supposed to be written for SYL, but wasn't heavy enough, so it became his black sheep and the reason for Terria.

It wasn't that bad... it was kind of like a barebones SYL album. Barebones as in nothing really special about it, you know? Not particularly technical or heavy or catchy or riffy or anything.

I love this man's voice too much.

Mmmmmm Buttersnips. Helluva song to try and play though. But yeah Spencer's vox are ace. I love them a lot more on PII though. Also I see you sporting the self-titled album background in your sig and a lyric. B)

Love the album, and the art looks sweet. I couldn't help myself.

Sotelo's vocals are better on PII, but I still like that raspy-half-growl-thing he did on PI when he was first learning. It was unique. Also, Periphery II's lyrics were really, really subpar considering how unique and good that their debut's were.

Okay, enough Periphery worship for now.

Decapitated, one of the pioneers of Polish tech-death.

Behold.

THE CONTORTIONIST!

The first album was a pure piece of deathcore art. The ending to that album gives me chills errytime. I was lucky enough to get Intrinsic a week before release (yay pre-orders), and was really surprised by their approach in the album. It took a few playthroughs before I really really started digging it. Causality and Anatomy Anomalies are a favorite of mine.

Still pisses me off that Jonathan had to leave. John Galloway's audition for TC is amazing though, I really hope he gets the spot on the band.

Listened through This Life is all we Have a few times. I've decided that I preferred their original vocalist, but their new one isn't as bad. Sometimes he sounds like he's trying so hard to sound so typical death-y, and others like he's trying so hard to sound like their original, which he doesn't. The drum and recording quality are a huge improvement though.

This version is alot better than the original, if you ask me.

Well I'm gonna go to sleep, so I might as well just leave one more post down here in the Metal thread.

Starting off with Converge, because I've been listening to nothing but Jane Doe the whole day, I'm so happy that I finally had found where the Converge albums were.

And also BTBAM, because motherfucking BTBAM

I wish they would make a new album :(

Why is there so much Deathcore here? I'm sorry, but I cannot stand it. I won't say it's not Metal, but I don't think it's good metal, its just noise to me.

Deathcore? Hmm....Not all of this stuff on here is Deathcore, and as for the whole it's not good metal thing. No it's not that it isn't good metal, it's just that it's not your style of music.

Between The Buried And Me: Metalcore / Progressive Metal

Converge: Metalcore / Hardcore Punk

At The Gates: Melodic Death Metal

....And some of the above stuff is Deathcore.

Preferences are preferences, and some people like Deathcore. While others don't like Deathcore, just don't bother with it, and post something that you prefer. I'm not saying that your opinion is invalid, because Deathcore isn't for everyone's tastes, but just don't insult a certain genre.

I don't like deathcore either, but there's no need to complain about it. And what exactly is "good metal"? I don't care if someone posts a song by a band that I hate.
