I don't have anything against long hair in men, but he is/was captain of the royal guard. Shouldn't they have hair/mane regulations like in the real world military? Don't be a nerd. Join the herd! The current regulations are based in the realities of World War I where it was necessary for soldiers to be clean shaven in order for gas masks to seal properly, and have cropped hair in order to avoid some of the diseases associated with trench warfare. Prior to that long hair was allowed as long as it was tied into a queue or club. Celestia, Luna, Sombra, and Starswirl all are/were very powerfull magicians, and all had long hair (beards are hair, too). It certainly isn't unheard of in other fictional works, either. (The original Battlestar Galactica from the 70's, for example. All those guys had some serious locks!) From comic issue 11 or 12.... I so need to get my hands on the comics. I can't believe they put that song lyric in there.
