I Think I Turned My Mom Brony

I think I turned my mom Brony.  Not the forum-visiting, merch-hoarding variety or anything; though I picked out a Fluttershy Funko POP! figure for her and she said, "How did you know?"

My mom and I have watched (I was re-watching, actually) three seasons together, and - when I ran out of DVDs to pop in - she said something along the lines of, "Ooooo, you get me into a show and then make me wait to see more?"  She also admitted that she's been thinking about ponies a lot, and she will randomly say, "Pinkie Pie" in a high-pitched voice.  Despite her having told me, on several occasions, that she can't understand most of what Pinks says / she makes her nervous lol.  My mom really liked the "party cannon" moment from "Sweet and Elite," though.  She also had to try and not get emotional during the season three finale.

And - while I was working on this post - my mother came up to me and proceeded to try, successfully I might add, to name all the Mane Six lol; though she also included Spike.  Whom she described as "a good little guy."

Your mom is taking an interest in your likes. My mom did the same. Except we didn't watch the episodes together, she was always a little busy working. But she is just doing what all moms do. Accepting her son.

I say roll with it. It's good to have something to relate to your parents. I didn't have much, and I regret it.

Good luck!

I told her what you said, and her response was, "Awwwww."  She also said that *I* had been busy (had to first explain that I made this topic lol).

Glad to hear this as i feel bad when i hear horror stories of how someones parents either thinks its weird to watch mlp or hate that their kid likes it.

Yeah those bother me, too.  And make me better appreciate how fortunate I am.

Your mom is awesome! My own mother is understanding, but I am the most text-book fanboy of anybody in my household. I keep my enthusiasm to myself cause nobody's interested to hear about it, my mom least of all. But no worries, I love her all the same.

My mom just thinks I have gay tendencies for watching it. Nothing wrong with that, just saying.

Your mom is awesome, no doubt about it. I like how she called Spike a good little guy.

My dad's the same way with a lot of cartoons that my brother and I used to watch many years ago.

To this day he still quotes stuff from Bugs Bunny, Samurai Jack, Rocko's Modern Life and even Dragonball Z. :P

Good times.

This topic ... I like it.

I also wonder now if there is a movement to turn us parents into Bronies. CONSPIRACY!

@, it sounds like your mother is not just taking an interest in the show to form a connection, but also a casual enjoyment in the series. That's a bonus. If not for my two teens I wouldn't have given FiM a second chance. They succeeded where an early adopter to the show failed.

Kids today. And get off my lawn. [/old man voice]

My mom and I watch a lot of the same TV shows. But mostly dark dramas. She won't go near cartoons.

But seriously, you have the coolest mom ever!

My mom and I have watched everything from Dragon Ball Z to Battlestar Galactica to Game of Thrones together lol.  It's been tougher, as of late, to get her to watch dramas, but I'm more than happy with the ponehs.

I applaud towards the fact that your mom is taking an interest in MLP. You got a cool mom right there. My mom does find it weird that I like a cartoon for little girls, but I tend to shrug it and move on. You two will bond even more now that you share similar interests in terms of MLP! :D

My mom is also a pegasister.  Or brony, whatever you want to call her.  She likes pegasister, so that's what I'll use.  We watch the show together all time.  She just loves it.  I'm going to show her My Little Dashie in the next day or two.  Can't wait to see what she thinks of it.

I've tried getting my mom interested in my interests, but I always fail. I tried getting her to watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I even showed her the first four episodes, but she never continued. She likes Avatar: The Last Airbender, and she likes Harry Potter, but she's the one who got me into the Harry Potter books

Anyway. My dad doesn't understand why I like ponies. He asks me, "Do you like the colors? Do you like the songs?" Dad, it's the friendship.

An interest sparked in me to watch MLP: FiM in January 2013, but I waited until two months later to watch it because my dad intimidated me when he said, "That's a show for little girls, Nicole!"

Edit: There, you get to know my real name now :)
