Has there ever been a death in MLP? Do you think there should be?

It's not death but severe ilness, does that count too?

In Read it and Weep we saw some bald ponies in the hospital. I always thought they represent ponies with cancer.

Yeah, Sombra is pretty much dead.

Anyway, even though I believe that Applejack's parents have indeed passed away, I don't think there should be a flashback about AJ's parents dying. If any more characters had to die, I'd rather them be villains.

I will argue that Sombra didn't die per se because he was like a spirit already, merely put to rest type o' thing.

So, as for on screen deaths, no.

Off screen deaths, sure.

I wouldn't mind a heart-wrencher or two dealing with death as long as they're tastefully optimistic at the end.  (you know a comforting hug and whatnot)

I totally think that the show finale should have a passing from Celestia to Twilight with a severe implication of death [though maybe just transcendence into light].

What about Starswirl the Bearded?

That guy lived so long ago, there's no way he could be alive today.

The book "Journal of the Two Sisters" says he was around and famous before Celestia and Luna got their cutie marks.

Unless, of course, he turned into Discord like some people believe.

I think an episode about dealing with loss would be interesting. It's something everyone has to go through in life at some point. This show teaches so many lessons, and this would be a really good concept to cover, something like going over the 5 stages of grief and loss.

This is very unlikely, but it's a concept I'd personally like to see at some point in the show. Maybe a backstory to what really happened to Applejack's parents.

I agree completely. Maybe Applejack could meet her parents in a dream or something in season 5, that would be an interesting episode.

No it is a kid show please what is wrong with you.

I understand your thinking, but death is not something kids are unfamiliar with. I'm not talking about turning MLP into a violent show, I'm talking about that it maybe could show the not-so-pleasant realities of life as well, that everyone will encounter.

There are deaths (i.e. Timberwolf king and Sombra) and I have my suspicions about what happened to AJ's parents (If that is revealed in season 4, don't tell me!) but I doubt there would be a death of someone that the mane 6 and/or audience has a particular bond with. Remember, this is a show that was originally meant for, like, 4-8 year olds.

...or possibly Rainbow Dash since her father was seen only in flashback...

Which season/episode was that?

Well, I don't buy Sombra's death just yet, but I could well be wrong.

But yet, death still exists as with the timberwolves, and the comics hint at Star Swirl dying at an old age, so yeah.

This appears in "Games Ponies Play". It's never stated, but very heavily implied and the fandom generally accepts that this is her father.

Wow! Thanks man!  I hadn't realized that before.  (before anyone says his link is broken, if you hit quote on his post, you'll see the image in your text field, just right click and open image in a new tab).

Well, everything minor has already been pointed out, but there's never been, like, anything super signifigant in terms of 'death'.

There never should be though. As much as I like dramas with character deaths, MLP:FiM just isn't that kind of show.

I couldn't find the picture explaining it but yes there has been a death in G4 before

in the episode where Rainbow Dash is sneaking around the hospital trying to steal the Daring Do book you notice a pony sleeping in the bed he has no tail or mane meaning he is possibly suffering from cancer

in the very next episode was the Heart's and Hooves Day episode when the CMC sing that song when Sweetie Bell says This one to old she was on top of a priest and if you payed attention they were at a funeral

meaning the guy we saw in the previous episode is no longer with us  :(

Guys, I think you're all forgetting that we've had three very clear on-screen deaths in the show that can't be explained away like Sombra (not 'alive' to begin with) or the giant timber wolf (magical construct, so the 'magic' may still be 'alive' and has retreated back into the forest).  These three were clearly alive one moment, and not alive the next.

I'm referring of course to a scene right at the beginning of season 1 episode 7.

R.I.P., earthworms.  :(

This is nothing more than hyperbole, perpetuated by the the fandom. It's not canonical information.

It's cannon. Confirmed during the Hasbro run panel at SDCC 2014. Just because something isn't fed to the audience doesn't mean you should marginalize the nature of symbolism.

Also, Holden Caulfield's Red Cap.

No need to tell that to me, broski.

It's just that at the time, that scene was very much up for interpretation and I haven't really looked into it since.
