Intellectual differences: She's got the brains, he's got the brawn (let's make lots of money). They can both fly, making for good teamwork in flight activities and battles. Differences in demeanor: she's more uptight and organized, while he's more laid back and carefree. However in battle, they are ready for action! One of those reasons is because he's very one-dimensional in terms of personality / pretty much the generic male in high school movies. One other reason is this. But then this ultimately blows up in his face, he suffers a psychotic break when he loses everything (his two families as well as his position as a guard or whatever the hay it is he does), and then he becomes an aimless drifter / cider-holic. As a pegasi guard he is already destined to be boring and without magic will always be weaker than Twilight. Twilight need someone who could aid her in study and spells or at least help her rule entire kingdom. Descendant of Starswirl who is a unicorn. Or prince of Saddle Arabia or Gryphon Empire. No other male character tries to court Twilight despite her efforts to attract the student body. The guys didn't even try to court the other Mane 5. It just feels that Twilight being hooked up with a top level pretty boy doesn't sit well. The guy she should have tried to mingle with is someone who was anti-social. Also, maybe they can explore Flash Sentry as a pony to sort of see how he interacts with the other ponies. Old Fluttershy 349 July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 to give a character depth you have to have a background story for them. Flash Sentry is a royal guard which isn't easy to get into. He's new and Twilight obviously has a thing for him. But we'd need to make Flash more of a hero. Like how he saved Celestia or Luna from some kind of horrid beast and is now a guard. Or why he wanted to be a guard in the first place. Also I'd love to see his character be the opposite of Twilight. He doesn't care about every little thing and believes that studying gets you no where in life. It's always fun to see two characters in love have such differing personalities. Not because I hate him, (though I kinda do) but because he seems to have a pretty zen and chill attitude, and those attributes are usually only fun when we see them pitted against their opposite. Again, I don't wanna merely see him as a butt monkey. I want to see him triumph against adversity. He might be a lot more likeable then.
