Ideas for equestria's military

Ok, so let me start with saying that I know this is not the most original idea, but have you ever wanted Equestria to have a more involved military? I suppose we would desire this because of our own affiliation with violence, but do any of you really think that all of equestria is held together with two alicorn sisters? Any pony can post their ideas of what the military would be like, Hell, give your rank, and your division, maybe we could eventually put so,etching together. Ex. My idea would be to section off the pegasai as the air core, but have specially designed horse hooves (kind of a boot model) that can carry bombs.

 

Let's talk about this.

I always picture the Equestrian military as a roman legion like formation. they have the standard earth pony legionary, who thanks to their improved strength (as proved canon by the s4 finale) make excellent baseline ground troops. They would be the most armored, and be the main core of the legions formations.

 

The pegasi would be akin to calvery, since they are all horses to begin with, I do not see much need for mounted troops outside a shock force. So I imagine the pegasi as a air calvery, functioning much the same as a roman legion's, but thanks to their ability to fly is far more versitle. But they lack the strength and hardiness of the baseline ground force, and it is yet unconfirmed if normal ground peices (such as supplly barrels or crates) can be floated via cloud, so they may also not be able to transport supplies.

 

As for unicorns, I picture them being used in a role like the battle mages of many a fantasy army. Throwing spells and healing large amounts of friendly forces. I could also see them being utilized in lage logistics movements, as it would seem highly possible that they can teleport both men, and supplies. They would be the most versitle of the forces, as their ability for magic allows them to attapt to a large amount of roles.

 

And seeing how the changelings had an army, and there are only 2 royal sisters, in the event of an invasion I could see a large army being raised. Despite how powerful the royal duo may be, 6 thousand troops would still overwhelm them. So since they are peaceful I do not see them having a large standing army, but they certainly would have plans to raise one in the event of an invasion.

Well I see the earth ponies as foot soldiers, the pegasi as the air force or navy, and the unicorns as armored units like tanks on Earth.

My idea for Equestrai's military is for it to do nothing..because i would just have Discord handle all the conflicts.

 

As long as he doesn't get stupidly tricked or acts a fool and causes more harm than good,as far as im concerned,Equestria doesn't need a military,only Discord..and Pinkie too..for added comedy.

We see in the Micro-Comics that the day to day affairs of the Royal Guard are actually rather minor. And, for that matter Luna concerns herself with defense of Equestria from monsters on a nightly basis. The fact that such a matter as defense of the realm can be surmounted by a single pony [that can fly; alicorn properties not regarded] means that Equestria is safe through and through. By inference it could be concluded, both that Equestria has no army due to lack of necessity, and that we've never seen a Police analogue in Ponyville because crime is so obscure it also is probably not fully necessary. In fact the only time something like that I can recall, was the security guard that appeared when Rainbow Dash tried to steal a book.
