DemonofSong 9 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 Its really late(didn't bother to check a clock lol) where I am now my parents got home like 15 minutes ago(Date night yeah) but just a half an hour ago I was sleeping in my bed and all of suddenly the door bell rings. I tried to ignore it but the asshole wouldn't let up. At first I thought it was the random jerk in my neighborhood that just goes around ringing doorbells sometimes(Its a good thing I'm moving to Massachusetts in like a week) I give in and go to the door, and as if I was in some sort of bad sitcom on the other side was a man, holding a bible, trying to sell his religion to me. He went through the whole "embrace Jesus" thing. Now don't get back me wrong I may be an atheist however if you believe in God or good old Beelz, It doesn't matter I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine. As you can imagine I was a little annoyed,I started glaring at him so hard when he realized what my face looked like he trailed of mid sentence, got sort of an "oh" look on his face, apologizd and told me too have a good night. This is really just a stress rant with the freaking door bell guy and my family moving cross country I guess this sort pissed me off enough to write about it. Actually has something like this happened to anybody else?

SkyDream 315 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 What particular aspect of this are you inquiring about to share with the rest of the people here? Stress is stress no matter what form it takes. Sharing one's beliefs takes many forms, financial, spiritual, enthusiastic, and more. Responses to unwanted coercion are many, and most are valid and justified. I haven't had a Jehova's Witness come to my door, but I would be happy to invite them in for tea and a cracker, and listen to them preach their good word, and then thank them for coming and proceed to completely disregard every damn last thing I had heard.

DemonofSong 9 July 17, 2014 Author Share July 17, 2014 I don't know I suppose I am asking any has this sort of thing happen you know just little irritations build up, I was pissed when I wrote the first part, because I guess it's a big change moving and lately the world seems to want my head on a silver plate. But I'd rather not go further into it. But to what I'm asking, I suppose it would be has anyone had those moments when you are at home and you just want to relax and the world seems to be keen on not letting that happen? Just to be clear I don't hate Jehovah's witnesses or any religion, you can believe in the great walrus monkey its your decision and I respect it. Like I said with all that's been going on with me I needed to vent. I could've handled it better and honestly in better conditions I probably would've invited the guy in offer him a drink or something and hear him out. Have a walrus monkey everypony
IcyHaze 595 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 Slightly related... A Jehovah's Witness came to my friend's door once at 10am. We invited him in for a cup of tea, and began his speech. All of us in the room were gay or bisexual, and after about an hour of discussion about homosexuality, he broke down in tears and confessed he was homosexual and couldn't come out due to fear of others. Pity, really. 6 I hope some people get the joke ^^
Discordian 6,021 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 Whenever these guys come to my door I have small philosophical debates with them. Like...every time. Better than holding a grudge against them or starting arguments or anything.

I have learned a lot from people who are prepared to discuss things like this.

Who cares what you're "allowed" to do? It's better if you just do it anyway. Unless it's breaking laws, in which case you might wanna watch what you're doing. I'm a teen, mate, so my parents are currently boss, and apparently 'don't let those witnesses into the house they creep us out' is a rule. Since Netflix is a very sacred thing to me I unfortunatly have to abide by these rules. Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey. Ashen Pathfinder 16,164 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 Well, outside of a Jehovah's Witness giving me a brochure one day, no. Really haven't had to deal with that, but at the same this this is a fairly protestant/evangelical area, I guess. PrymeStriker 408 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 (edited) This has rarely been an issue for me. Though, we have had Mormons come to our door before. The solution was quite simple: we didn't answer the door. Edited July 17, 2014 by PrymeStriker

LightningMana 147 July 18, 2014 Share July 18, 2014 We get door-to-door mormons here all the time. Going to peoples' homes is just so.... personal... I decline them every time. I had a sign up at one point and none of them bothered me then, but sign got thrown away when the door got painted and haven't bothered making a new one~ so mormons keep coming back lol I totally get it~ people of Faith should be wholesome enough to allow a fellow in their home to just talk. That's what it's really about~ the Lord's messengers. But in a real-world perspective, it's still... my home. Very private to me and I'm pretty introverted and scare easy. Invincible 2,092 July 23, 2014 Share July 23, 2014 I had it worse. I encountered lots of religious coercion from Jews in my country. When i was 9, a bunch of highly orthodox Jews were handing out candy in front of a synagogue trying to lure kids in to pray. Since i knew better than to take candy from strangers, i steered clear. I don't mean that's exactly what you've been having, but when i see religious coercion, makes me sick. If people can't respect my choice of faith (which is the lack of faith, actually, as i'm an atheist), they shouldn't be surprised if i can't respect their. The opposite is also true. I respect everyone who gives me the berth to choose what religion i wish to practice or not. IceeBrony 251 July 23, 2014 Share July 23, 2014 I don't get many solicitors, usually I end up being nice... But I'm not shy about telling them off when I've had enough. Part of me wishes they were more common so I could be a little less tolerant of them When i was 9, a bunch of highly orthodox Jews were handing out candy in front of a synagogue All I could think was:
Henny Penny Benny 936 July 23, 2014 Share July 23, 2014 Where I live isn't populous enough to have to deal with that very often. Although I do remember one time a couple Jehova's Witnesses came to my door and just gave me some pamphlet or something. I dunno. But yeah, I'm a devout Christian (not the same as Jehova's Witnesses), but I really don't understand how people think that going door-to-door and pushing God down people's throats is helpful. I mean, if I'm talking with someone and my faith becomes relevant to the conversation, I'm thrilled to get to talk about it, but if people don't want to hear it, it won't do anyone any good for me to push them. iceestarz 5,768 July 23, 2014 Share July 23, 2014 I lived on military bases for practically my whole life, but when I moved to Washington and lived in spanaway a couple years ago I had a couple of old ladies ring the doorbell and preach Jesus to me. Needless to say I was pretty annoyed, I was trying to watch tv, and I could really care less about religion and church. I totally respect that other people have the right to follow whatever religion they want, but I mean... I was trying to watch a show, I don't care about Jesus lady. Lol, but I tried to act polite to them cause old people are so adorable to me. But we had a table outside that had a sunflower and my family's last name painted on it and I ended up getting caught in a conversation about my last name since it's Italian. Which then in turn got me trapped in a conversation about one of the chick's son who had gone to Italy. Needless to say I was happy when they finally left, after that I always looked out of the peephole. If it was another one of those religious people I wouldn't answer the door and let them be on their merry way to go bother somebody else.
