Buck Testa 5,505 August 18, 2014 #1 Share August 18, 2014 After reviewing the series I have come to an interesting conclusion with Celestia; She feels she has grown too old and weak to continue leading Equestria and is grooming her replacements. As we all know Celestia while long lived is far from immortal, and maintaining a kingdom while managing heavenly bodies is extremely taxing on the body. We know this cause it takes someone as powerful as Celest to do it solo while it would take a team of unicorns to do the same job. A thousand years ago she could drive back many threats, and she had connections to the elements to boot. Fast forward to modern day and the one time we see her fight she was promptly put down. Sombra, Queen of the changelings, Tirek, she did not do much of anything against them when a few centuries prior she took them down with brute shows of force. She cannot perform at this level anymore. This also could explain her arranging Luna's release, converting Discord, and bringing Cadence and Twilight into the Alicorn buisness. She gave the moon back to Luna cause doing both was getting to much for her, she had to put her trust in the spirit of Chaos when Tirek rolled into town, and then into her pupil. And is it not interesting that Celestia should suggest twilight had to fight Tirek alone instead of relying on her friends. Its almost like she wants twilight to be the same powerhouse she was centuries prior. So we see Celestia delegating her athority and power, losing in the one fight she had onscreen that was not a flashback, and raising up her pupil to do the things she used to do. This is because she maybe reaching the end of her reign. Or that is my theory, what are your thoughts? See any flaw in my line of thinking? Lets discuss! my only rule: If your only answer is "its just a kid show" then do not reply. such answers do not promote discussion. 7 http://www.fimfiction.net/user/Billy%20G%20Gruff http://billyggruff.deviantart.com/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPVpSXbUpDYTcaFHTPiPjYA
silvadel 1,393 August 18, 2014 #2 Share August 18, 2014 Actually, what would be interesting (as an ending to MLP) would be if the mane 6 decided that it was time to move on, that Celestia needs to retire, and Celestia refuses. 3 Silvadel, the Pegasus of Insight. SilverThunder 24 August 18, 2014 #5 Share August 18, 2014 I have to say, I was a bit surprised when back when I first saw canterlot wedding. I mean, up until that point, I was under the impression Celestia was some kind of demi-god or something. Come to think of it though, what exactly has she done in the shows in the modern era of it at least, that shows she has immense power? Well, at least I still have my headcannon to tell me she still got the stuff, but I think you may be right on this one. BTW, you guys might be right on Twilight taking over after her later in the series.

Ruling for so long can be very taxing on the mind, why do you think there has been so many moderator and admin resignations around here lately? I read this interesting fanfic where Celestia put Luna in charge to go on a vacation and Luna didn't do too well. It was later revealed that Celestia was in love with the Griffon king and wanted to retire from rule in part because of that and in part because of burnout. Another author with the original authors permission wrote a sequel where Celestia used a device (I think it was a crystal ball if I remember correctly) to see what would happen if she left each individual member of the mane 6 in charge in order to decide who would be her successor. 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Pastel 7,630 August 18, 2014 #7 Share August 18, 2014 I thought of that too, I hope this is true. Unfortunately, I don't think that's the case: we've never seen her complaining, and she doesn't seem tired of all that at all.
Jeric 46,861 August 18, 2014 #8 Share August 18, 2014 @Buck Testa, I just had this discussion with my daughter this morning. I completely agree with your assessment. Time is taking it's toll physically, magically, and emotionally. Celestia and Luna also symbolize polar opposites in their juxtaposed nature of Night and Day, where Cadance and Twilight are Friendship and Love. The former is an example of harmony. It may be that those two are being groomed to replace Celestia and Luna.
Phosphorous 136 August 18, 2014 #9 Share August 18, 2014 They should put an episode about Celestia passing away, and Twilight becoming devastated at her royal funeral. It would be an excellent lesson to younger viewers, that loss is a part of life, and that the ones you love won't be there for forever. AJ could be there to comfort Twilight, since it was hinted in the previous episodes that she lost her parents. She could then learn a lesson about how after a loss, you shouldn't mourn for the rest of your life, but strive to make the lost one proud.

I think it is Twilight more than Cadence because Cadence rules the crystal empire though the original intention may have been for both of them. Lauren Faust herself said that she intended for Twilight to eventually be Celestia successor even if she didn't intend the whole alicorn thing (though I suppose dwelling on that would be a bit off topic). It could very well happen though if it does I hope it is saved for the series finale. I would actually be in favor of an episode like that but the likelihood of it is quite small though I think with the success of the season 4 finale being the darkest episode in G4 and lack of controversy does improve the chances of something like that. I think them exploring the death of Applejack's parents is a tad more likely but something like that could as you said be a thoughtful lesson on dealing with loss as well as of course an opportunity for some bonding between Applejack and Twilight who I think have way more in common then a lot of fans give them credit for. 2 Rarity Get's Cockroaches

Steel Accord 6,660 August 18, 2014 #12 Share August 18, 2014 Well that was Lauren's original intent, however I don't really see the need. When She was alone for 1,000 years perhaps. THIS is what I have been hoping for since the beginning of the show: The last episode of My Little Pony would be their separation, with Twilight moving to Canterlot in order to rule, Rarity going to Manhattan (Is it how it's called in the show?) in order to better express her talents as an stylist, Rainbow Dash finally joining the WonderBolts and leaving Ponyville, maybe Applejack and Pinkie Pie would be the only ones left, and Pinkie wouldn't be able to take this very well... I am sure of it. And that would be the end of the Mane 6... gosh I'm crying just with the idea of it happening. Edit: I also don't see Fluttershy going anywhere, but knowing her, she'd probably become much closer to Pinkie Pie, because both would miss their friends together, while Applejack, although mourning the end of the best part of her life, would be able to go through this faster than the other two On 2014-08-18 at 4:09 PM, Phosphorous said: They should put an episode about Celestia passing away, and Twilight becoming devastated at her royal funeral. I agree, and I think this would be an amazing premise for the episode I just mentioned above... it could even be a two-episode season finale... maybe even three-episode since it would definitely mark the end of this Generation of My Little Pony Edited August 18, 2014 by Caleb Rosengard FEAR is a CAGE: In there, NOTHING can reach youFrom there, there is NOTHING you can reachSister Sarah - Chapter 39, The Fall of the Masked Gala (my book is coming soon!!!) Gary S. 102 August 18, 2014 #19 Share August 18, 2014 (edited) Meh, I don't like it. You can see what openers and finales can do to a character. More and more people seem to think that Celestia is decrepit and senile. Yeah she was shown as weak and stupid, but come on. Twilight is already the princess of friendship. If she becomes the princess of the sun and the moon, we're coming close to Mary Sue terrain. Yup, also the moon. Luna isn't that much younger, so she also has to go to nursing home soon enough. Remember, she was owned by these tentacles, too. Pretty weak, if you ask me. Just lets replace her with Trixie. She has stars on her cape and her name is Trixie Lulamoon. That's enough for me, so make her an alicorn, too. Ugh... Edited August 18, 2014 by Gary S.

So many lines could be drawn between AJ losing her parents and having to lead the farm and the Apple family and Twilight losing Celestia and having to lead Equestria in her wake. Not only would it be a lesson on loss but also being strong for the ponies that depend on you. The farm being a foreshadow too Equestria is such a fascinating concept and I hope they delve into it in the series. 1 http://www.fimfiction.net/user/Billy%20G%20Gruff http://billyggruff.deviantart.com/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPVpSXbUpDYTcaFHTPiPjYA
