Should Spike make it the Mane 7?

I mean, think about it. if you ask me, Spike is as much a main character as the rest of them. Spike isn't a pony, but should it be mane 7 instead of mane 6?

While Spike is extremely important to the mane six, I don't think he's ever felt as if he really belonged. He's still looking for his place in the world, and while the mane six don't directly exclude him, they don't seek his opinion as they do each other's. He's essentially Twilight's younger sibling, and his relationship with the mane six is similar to my younger sister's relationship to my friends: while he's welcome to join in on the group at any time, it's difficult to do this without feeling like intruding, and he's more interested in finding his own group of friend's instead of just hanging out with his sister's.

I think Spike is more like a sidekick. The Mane Six are all Batmans while Spike is Robin and I like it that way.

I think Spike's role was probably meant to be a lot smaller in the beginning, which is why they didn't give him an element. Once they realized his potential for character development it was too late to make him an element. The lore was already set in stone. We have seen the five elements create the sixth element, and we have seen the power of the elements become complete. There isn't room for a seventh that wouldn't feel shoehorned. I think that giving Spike a place at the council table in the season four finale hints that he will take on a more serious role in the coming seasons. Now that they've laid the Elements to rest (hopefully), they can develop a new power McGuffin that includes Spike.

He doesn't have a mane, for one, and he is also not a pony. I honestly do not think he contributes quite enough to be one the main characters of the show, he is more of a supporting character.

In the comic arc that shall not be mentioned he does correct perfect boi Sombra when he reffers to the group of 6 as 7. So I guess in some situations he does feel like he is an integral member of the team and deserves a spot like one of the mane 6.

• Being one of the elements of harmony

Not really. Starlight's purpose is to be headmare at the School, and she didn't have alota episodes this season. 

So it's either Spike's the seventh, or there's no seventh at all.

The Mane 6 was originally a fan made term. Not something said by the characters themselves in the show. So whether Spike is considered part of the Mane 6 or not is up to individual viewer

The devs constantly keep saying Spike's a "main character", but the term "Mane 6" was adopted by the staff, and perhaps they coulda changed it to 7 at any time. Or maybe they're about to.....
