Pokemon Black and White 2 Thoughts?

i was hoping for a grey myself as well.

but maybe itll happen in the future

I think that this kinda substitutes the usual formula so Grey might not happen.

On the bright side this is Grey (cover Pokemon is still Kyurem just in different forms) but also something completely new!

Much more than a remake! But who knows what Nintendo will do, after all we never expected BW2!

I would have been happy with Grey - if it were a 3DS game. Because I have a 3DS and Black/White apparently don't look all to great on the 3DS, so I was actually waiting it out for Grey and hoping it was going to be on the 3DS.

But that aside I'm happy that they're going for a sequel instead.

------------------------Here comes a big long retrospective look at Gen 5---------------------------------------

I disagree Black and White is a large improvement over Gen 4 Diamond/Pearl/Platinum!

When looking at a Generation you have to look at some key features. First off new Pokemon, then new features, and then the region.

I'll admit that Gen 5's Unova region was a bit lacking, I call it the giant donut! :P

But most of the new Pokemon were pretty cool! The starters were pretty meh... to be honest this was the first game I opted out of using my starter which is practically breaking Pokemon law! D: Then I ended up with Pokemon like Zorark, Conkeldurr, Galvantula, Volcorona, tons of awesome Ghosts, Reuniclus, Musharna, Ferrothorn, and a few more. Overall more variety of types which really changes up gameplay. I do feel the legendaries are lacking though. Most are next to practically useless. Then again its hard to go somewhere after Gen 4 literally had God for a legendary!

And the features are pretty lacking. More online things were added but they never really lived up to their hype. A lot like Gen 4 most of the added features were more focused on online multiplayer. Though Gen 5 does add the 3 on three battles which added a lot more strategy to bigger battles. Unfortunately these were solemnly used in singleplayer.

Though one interesting thing added this gen was story. I never really played Pokemon for story, but the story they added really added to the singleplayer campaign! It wasn't the best story, but it shows that Pokemon wants to mature itself a bit!

Gen 1 we got the basics, Gen 2 we got more of the same but 2 regions to play, gen 3 we had a complete overhaul of game mechanics to make it more competitive, gen 4... mehh..., gen 5 we got a bit of story!

I'd say Gen 5 is probably tied for 3rd Gen overall and just below 1 and 2! Although its mostly a lateral movement a lot like 4, it tries to mature itself and has one of the best Pokemon rosters to date (seriously, its WAY up there to almost being the best).

I have come bearing long posts for all to read, even if I am late to the party~

I agree with everything up to the part about the legendaries. It depends on your definition of useless. Let's take a closer look: Victini is an event-only legendary. They don't generally have story significance (think Mew, Celebi, Jirachi).

In terms of competitive play, Victini has great sets, both physical (dat V Create) and special (more abusive of Victory Star). It can even go with an effective Final Gambit Scarf set that pretty much gets a free kill if played right. Hardly useless, most people just dislike the typing too much.

Then there are the musketeers. Cobalion is by far the worst of the trio/quadrangle (?) as far as usability, with Terrakion and Virizion being top dogs. If Keldeo were to be released, it would be all over the place and rain offense would be through the roof. All but Cobalion would have a significant impact on the OU metagame, and that's not to say Cobalion is bad everywhere. He's solid in UU, from what I hear. As far as story devices go, they were easy to miss, especially since you needed to fetch Cobalion from the murky depths of Mistralton Cave before any of the others showed up. I'm feeling some more significance in BW2, perhaps?

The Kami trio...yes, stock poses abound, but they are all legitimately quite good. Trolly speeds for all, and Prankster for two? Thundurus is even banned from OU, he was so good/centralizing. I liked the implementation of them into the game, since it seemed a bit like Lati@s but with more story. The rain on the routes made tracking them down a lot less of a chore, too.

The Tao trio do have some weird designs, but I like to think they were designed to function in weather. Reshiram in sun is monstrous (like 2HKO Blissey with a special attack monstrous), as is Zekrom in rain. Kyurem is great in hail, but hail sucks in general, so it got shafted. And I can't get enough of their backstory and speculating what will happen in BW2.

Meloetta sucks and is useless, I will give you that. If it didn't need to use Relic Song to change formes, it wouldn't be nearly as bad. Genesect is spammed all over the place in DW OU, with good reason. Sexy typing and movepool with a great stat spread to abuse Download. The only problem is that its signature move is totally useless in all situations. Freeze Cassette Techno Buster<any item Ice Beam, for example. That's one out of all that is useless. Not too bad.

I feel like the online capabilities were gimped a bit. I can't see how they haven't added some sort of resolution to the ever-present problem of disconnecters. Either penalize the D/Cer or count it as a win for the person who got D/Ced on. I'd also like scaled battles to lv. 100 for everything, or at least a choice of scale, as well as a 6 vs. 6 option for Random Matchup. 3 vs. 3 is hardly enough. Instead, we got the Wonder Launcher thingy, Triple Battles, and Rotation Battles. Meh.

Story was wonderful in BW, and will likely be even better in BW2. Gen III ->Gen IV gave the Physical/Special Split, so that types were no longer the deciding factor of physicalness or specialness. It was pretty huge. Entry hazards also gained tons of prominence, what with Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, and the game took a major step towards being more offensive and fast-paced.

I'm anticipating a lot of things about these games. Story, new Kyurem formes, release of Keldeo, move tutors, more Dream World stuff, L=A (OH GOD PLEASE BRING IT BACK), Pokemon walking behind you, more touchscreen stuff...after Keldeo it's all speculative, but that's part of the fun, isn't it?

Okay so I'll admit... one I wasn't really talking about Ubers so I left out Zekky and Reshi! And I completely forgot about the Ponies tbh. And kinda the same with the Kami trio. I've been out of competitive stuff for so long (and to be honest haven't played Pokemon in months) so I kinda forgot a few things.

I guess my issues with these Legendaries is that they are forgettable? Aside from the Dragons the others just fell out of memory.

So no they aren't quite useless (Kyurem... I am still disappoint!). I guess the word was forgettable. At least when compared to the other awesome Pokemon of Gen 5!
