So, I recently got into game collecting. I'm buying a Retron Duo next Friday and this will be my games library for it.

1) Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

2)...

...

...

Yea, thats about it.

So, what SNES and NES titles should I look out for?

Well, when it comes to NES, I'd recommend the following from my collection:

1. Super Mario Bro. (1, 2, 3)

2. Captain Skyhawk (my favorite NES game ever)

3. Solar Jetman (hardest game ever ;_; )

4. Days of Thunder (I'll win an actual race before I ever win one in this game)

5. Donkey Kong & Donkey Kong Jr.

I'm sure I'me forgetting one or two...

My SNES collection is much smaller, but I recommend the following:

1. Super Mario World

2. Super Mario All-Stars

3. Lion King

It's expensive, but it's also an absolute must-play on the SNES.

This is probably the best game I've ever played in my life.

Hell, even if you can't get it, since the damned thing can run near $100 on just a cartridge alone with no sleeve or booklet or anything, emulate it. This is a must play.

I can't believe that I have seen another person to even remember that game :o

I still own mine, and it was a great game for me and my brothers to play.

I actually have that game on my SNES emulator. :3

Easily one of the hardest games I've played for no other reason than the fact that you will inevitably murder the other player. Whether you meant to (of course you did) or not.

Hey I've got a Retro Duo, too!  Mascot edition (Mario colors).  Those things can also play Super Famicom games, in case you didn't know. xD  I've bought a few SFC carts online: Dragon Quest VI, Mario's Super Picross, and Super Mario Collection (same as All-Stars).

I can tell you which NES games NOT to pick up lol: Castlequest, Timelord, and Ikari Warriors 2.  Yes, I have all three.  Unfortunately.  If you're looking for the big name / popular titles, be prepared to pay a decent amount for them.  Then there are the games like Demon's Crest that weren't necessarily successful / popular but command an insane price regardless. xD  (I want DC, but I don't wanna pay $100+ for it.)

NES:

Donkey Kong, DK Jr. / Mario 1, 2, 3 / Dr. Mario / Yoshi / Zelda 1, 2 / Kid Icarus / Kirby's Adventure / Metroid / Mega Man 1 - 6 / Castlevania 1, 2, 3 / Contra, Super C (got the super obvious picks out of the way, I think lol)

Bomberman (series)

Adventure Island (series)

Gyruss

Wizards & Warriors 1, 2 (Ironsword - Fabio's on the cover; not joking), and especially 3

Faxanadu

Rygar

TMNT 2 and 3

Blaster Master

Strider (though hit detection + wonky third party controller = bleh; I still beat it on RetroDuo, though lol)

Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers

DuckTales

Darkwing Duck (basically a Mega Man game lol; though that's not a bad thing)

Solar Jetman

Gargoyle's Quest 2 (if it's not a million dollars)

I've heard that Dragon Warrior Quest games won't run on the RetroDuo, and I believe you said you hate turn-based anyhow so... xD

SNES:

All things Mario xD (World, RPG, All-Stars, Kart, bicycle repair...  Anything you can find and afford.)

Kirby Super Star / A Link to the Past / DKC / F-Zero

Harvest Moon

Super Castlevania IV

Axelay

U.N. Squadron

Super R-Type

R-Type III

Gradius III

Super Ghouls n' Ghosts

Illusion of Gaia

Secret of Mana

Secret of Evermore

Drakkhen

Final Fantasy 2 or 3 (really 4 and 6)

Killer Instinct

Super Adventure Island

Jurassic Park

Breath of Fire

Street Fighter whatever

King of Dragons

Knights of the Round

Wanderers from Ys III

Yea, I am fully aware of the Ikari Series. -shudders- I also knew about the SFC, but I didn't really see any SFC games that caught my eye. I do like your list though, I'll keep an eye out for them when I go to a few garage sales.

  • 4 weeks later...

For the NES (think these have been already mentioned):

  • Zoda's Revenge: Star Tropics II (While it's not as good as the first Star Tropics game, it's still a good game)
  • DuckTales 2
  • Crystalis

SNES games:

  • Sim City (if you're into simulation games, this one will be perfect)
  • Any of the Mega Man X trilogy
  • Mega Man 7
  • Castlevania: Dracula X

(coming soon)

I have to disagree on Mega Man 7, I didn't enjoy it. If they haven't been mentioned yet; there is a few SNES games I totally recommend.

1. Illusion of Gaia

2. ActRaiser

3. Secret of Evermore

4. Soul Blazer

5. Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Otherwise I'd suspect the others I would recommend have been said already.

NES

1. Kid Icarus

2. Adventures of Lolo (Disclaimer: May really test your puzzle solving skills)

3. Excitebike

4. Magician

5. TMNT

6. Bad Dudes
