SolidTwilight 383 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 So at the end of Fight to the finish, when Rainbow Dash is talking to Scootaloo about not being able to fly and maybe never being able to fly, do you think it was really insensitive of her to being flying during the hole conversion? I think she was flying because its what she always does and had a lot of energy at that moment and did not even realize that she was doing it. kind of like a dog wagging its tail. anyway I still think it was kind of inappropriate at the time. what do you all think? Frostgage 7,976 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 I don't think so. Throughout the series, you'll notice that Dashie is flying almost all the time. She probably does it without even thinking at this point. 5 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. All the cool kids are doing it. Radiance64 7,053 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 Rainbow Dash is often animated flying just because... Dunno if they had in mind in the script or not, maybe. But it's never brought up to be hurting Scootaloo's feelings if I recall. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Banul 3,831 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 Flying is what RD does. I don't think Scoots even noticed.
ghostfacekiller39 23,860 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 I'm pretty sure flying is an involuntary reflex for RD at this point We see her hovering pretty much everywhere she goes. She likely didn't even realize she was doing it. That and I don't think Scootaloo seemed too offended by her flying 1 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Leonard Smix 421 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 I think she was demonstrating that even though that there was many other flyers in that competition, everypony was cheering for them, not the flyers. By flying, she demonstrated this, and it also was good for showing RD's excitement.
Miles 2,512 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 (edited) To all of the above posters saying something like "well she's always flying" ... Guess what? *Click* *Light-bulb-on* Seriously, I'm just all like, "Oh my gosh they're right! It's true, lmao, RD really does fly out of habit; out of reflex." Sometimes it's funny how you can miss things that you're looking straight at. --- Anyways, I'm going to take a different approach and say "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" (rather than say it's like a dog wagging it's tail). Basically, to try to get RD to walk somewhere without flying, you literally have to strap her wings down. Thus - she flies out of habit; and old habits die hard. (Believe me, I would know about that - coming from a very tradition oriented hometown). It would be like if a human were ambidextrous (left and right handed to write; to do stuff of the like, etc) but always, always - out of habit - chose to write with their left hand, and would only write with their right hand when their left hand was busy (say, holding something). In the like; Rainbow Dash constantly flies, and hovers when she is not moving. She will walk out of respect, or out of necessity... or if her friends tell her to "calm down" basically. But otherwise, the air is her proving grounds, her home... her zone. Thus, I do not think Scootaloo would have thought anything negative from this. She has known RD for so long that she, like everypony else, is just used to seeing RD in the air, hovering, and thus it created a subconscious "standard" for their knowledge of RD's personality, in that it is just who she is to be constantly in the air. Spinelspike 78 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 hmmmmm, it is interesting to consider. On the one hand, we do know that RD very commonly flies constantly, usually without knowing. She just has a very energetic personality, and likes to display her flying prowess constantly, so far that it has become a sub-conscious action that she does without even being aware of it.But actually, even though scootaloo knows that that is part of RD's character, I think that scene would have worked a lot better if RD wasn't flying while talking to her. It would put her on a level of equality with scootaloo, making her feel closer to her idol, and show her that she can still strive to be like her despite weaker flying skills."Insensitive" may be a bit extreme, but just because RD wasn't fully aware doesn't mean it still may have made her speech to Scootaloo less impactful as a result. Malinter 3,064 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 RD's flying is what inspires Scootaloo to want to fly. Even if Dash didn't do it. Scoots would pick up on it and see it as RD not respecting/pitying her. Also RD being brutally honest about her not being able to fly is probably a leaf from AJ's book in that dancing around the issue won't make the truth any less painful. [NULL] 906 September 5, 2014 Share September 5, 2014 No. Rainbow Dash doesn't know whether or not Scootaloo will grow up to be able to fly, and lying to her that she'll fly someday will only eventually lead to Scootaloo losing trust in Rainbow Dash, as well as make her even more upset when she finally realizes that she wasn't going to be able to fly. It's better to teach people to be strong, rather than patronize them.

Zekromic 1,054 September 6, 2014 Share September 6, 2014 No, she flies constantly, I'm surprised she hasn't forgotten how to walk . Anyway, what she told Scootie might been very direct, but is a very valuable lesson for a filly of her age should learn, since many adults don't even heard about it

My absolute favorite, though, is this one, right here: my_fav_RD_and_Scoots_pic.jpg Oh gosh darn it thats cute. I love the two of them together not only cause its cute but there is opprotunity for major character growth in Rainbow Dash watching over her. Think about it: Dash is at her best when she is employing her element of Loyalty, we have seen this many times in the past. What is a greater display of loyalty to an Orphan (assuming scoots is one) Then to show her that she will be their for her and raise her like the mom she never had. Scoots wants a sister, but what she needs is a parent. Dash is more then capable of filling this role for her. Our azure mare would see her short comings in a new way in Scootaloo and she would be a better pony to be the best example to scoots she can be, cause that is what a loyal foster parent would do. those two would have such a positive, maturing effect on eachother, and it would be a beautiful story arc for rainbow dash. http://www.fimfiction.net/user/Billy%20G%20Gruff http://billyggruff.deviantart.com/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPVpSXbUpDYTcaFHTPiPjYA
