Times your parents have driven you up the wall

Times my parent(s) drove me up the wall. There was the time my father didn't seek medical care promptly enough when I was in college. That drove me up the wall at the time, and I harbored a lot of anger and guilt following his passing from a preventable health issue.

Just figured I would add some perspective here.

I have the Peter Griffin problem with my parents. I love them, but I don't like them.

I was just with them in Vegas for the renewal of their vows (the running joke on the trip being that it was my second time at a wedding ceremony of theirs, haha). I was getting blamed for stupid crap on said trip. Singular example;

We went to a restaurant. Toby Keith's I <3 This Bar&Grill. For those of you who've never been, it's exactly what it sounds like, a sports bar. Low and behold, it WAS a sports bar. If you can, imagine the following in a tone of voice that provides you with both sarcasm and disbelief.

Immediately, my mother complained about the noise of the sports bar we were in during a football game, because it was too loud. So, she had us moved to a different table (a party of 7, mind you), and then found out that (surprise, surprise!), it's just as loud everywhere else in the sports bar. Now, I never have an opinion on where I go with my family to eat, I don't throw out restaurant names or anything, all I ask is that they serve meat (or pasta). Chicken strips, pork ribs, beef ribs, hamburger, chicken breast, pasta with meat sauce, I don't really care as long as I can get meat (or pasta) [fish is not meat, hush you fish advocates!]. Well, in spite of that, it's my fault we went to a sports bar and "had a bad time". (the food was mediocre, by the way. The BBQ sauce was the best I've had in the last 10 years, but the actual food it was on, sub par at best.) There were a single event during said meal where I, enjoying the atmosphere, smiled, and said Woo. I didn't yell it, shout it, or compete to be heard over the drunk frat boys watching the game, I literally just said it, in a normal speaking voice, and everyone at the table except my grandparents immediately got infuriated over it.

Now, that night, I thought, I must be imaging [manure], there's no way my family is this spiteful. but the next morning, I was up at 6am, and I heard my grandparents talking (I was in their room, for reasons, and good ones at that.) about the trip in general, including the night before. They were talking about "it's just amazing that [Koukatsu] has put up with them for all these years, if [my mother, their daughter] had been like she is now as a kid, I'd have thrown her out of the house."

There were various other comments, but I think this one most strongly makes my point.

I have innumerable examples of things like that, including some where I would get blamed, and I wasn't even on the trip (like when my father got his wallet stolen by a gypsy in Italy, and I stayed home in the states).

So yes, my wall has tire tracks all over it. :muffins:

Honestly . . . never. I mean I've gotten annoyed slightly sometimes, but never out and out furious with my parents. They've always been honest with me and I value their wisdom. Life has been hard on both of them, and to have them work through the obstacles, have my brothers and I, and still manage to enjoy their own lives?

Yeah . . . my parents are my heroes.

Also, met in high school, dated through college, married, had three sons, and still together with the same love they had all those years ago. Happily ever after? I'm living proof!  B)

Hm... Earlier my dad left the toilet seat up.

xD (I laugh now, but I was very irritated. I slammed it .

I have 2 brothers who always do that.

One time I was so tired I didn't even bother to look and I fell into the toilet. :maud:

Pretty much anytime they've badger me to look for job like it's the easiest thing in the world

This.

Yes. My mom kept on attacking me earlier this summer to get one and I tried. I applied to a lot of places and none even called me back for an interview. The only place that ever contacted me back was Pizza Hut. And that was just one of those generic emails saying I didn't have the qualifications they were looking for at the moment. So basically they found someone who had already had a job before. So I gave up looking.

My mom left me alone and said she would pay for my car insurance and for gas when I get my license if I join a club or some after school activity. So I joined culinary club, since my culinary teacher is in charge of it and I love her. Yuh, win win for me.

Oh, where do I even begin?

For example, I just got into a huge argument with my parents. I'm not going to say who was right or wrong because both sides said things they probably shouldn't have, but it ended when my father all but threatened to pretty much ground me if I didn't agree with him. This isn't the first time either that he's ended an argument with "I'm right, and unless you agree with me I'll take away your computer/game system/TV (all of which I should point out he has no right to take away because I bought them with my own money!) until you apologize for to me." Don't even get me started on the fact that he's exceedingly racist and does it solely because he knows it pisses me off.

They also spent the better part of the last year bugging me about my inability to find a job. Apparently, the fact that I can't snap my fingers and suddenly be employed means "I just don't want it bad enough." I swear sometimes I wonder why I even talk to them...

I just had to move a large 8' x 5' x 4' pile of dirt around the back yard four times because of completely asinine reasons. Most of them consist of having to mow the lawn underneath them. I'm not sure if that makes any sense. Then there's how there's a disagreement over the placement of the garbage cans being stored by the side of the house and termites using them as cover to infest the house. There are plenty of other things for them to use for cover that don't move at all, so why should garbage can placement inconvenient anyone like that?

Never really driven up the wall by my parents. At all. But, my dad will never stop talking. He'll just go on and on, for like 30+ minutes. Sometimes its fine, but usually he comes in my room to tell me about some conspiracy theory crap he's been watching, and I really wouldn't mind but I'm usually in the middle of doing something when he walks in.

Well, I argue way more with my mom on conflicting ideals on any matter, she always has to be right. Except she doesn't take away anything from me and all that.

Like today I was telling her about what happened at my lunch the other day. My friend who I've known for like 12 years started talking about god and all that because I looked up and saw her pray before eating her sandwich and I was just kidding when I said "woah [insert friend], you can't just like pray in front of me." And then I ended up telling her I was an athiest. And yeah that didn't end up going over well. Partially because she's a major Christian and had no idea that I don't believe in God. But it was generally hilarious and awkward, so I wanted to tell my mom.

She basically went on a rant about how I'm not athiest because I was baptized and had my first communion. Which I snapped back at her by telling her I was only an infant when I got baptized and that I was in elementary when I had the communion so there was no way I could have possibly even known or cared about any of the religious stuff she had me be a part of. And basically it all ended in awkward silence when I told her she was basically trying to force me into her beliefs.

Oh dear... I'm so sorry. I guess I have to consider myself lucky to have never had brothers. Even still, my dad had always been pretty good about putting the seat down, but lately he's been forgetting on occasion. >.>

That's awful! I've never fallen in. I suppose it's very ingrained in my mind that when I walk in the bathroom I have to put the lid up. I never expect it to be up... So I always look, even when I'm in the most groggy of states. Funny thing happened the other day because of this, in fact... When I'm home alone I tend to just leave the lid up, because... Why not? xD Now I said it's very ingrained in me to lift the lid up when I walk in the bathroom... Well this time the lid was already up, and I ended up beginning to lift the seat up instead thinking it was just the lid... And if I hadn't noticed the difference in how it felt I might have ended up falling in and it all being my own darn fault!

Sometimes I really think I'm stupid. >.<

But seriously what am I talking about this? I'm just glad that's the only complaint I have about my dad, and that's it not something worse? lol

Lol it's probably karma for what happened like 5 years ago.

My little brother was still peeing sitting down like a girl cause my dad had been deployed for most of the time since he was born. So he wasn't taught how to standing up at the time. We were at a hotel in Missouri cause my great grandpa died so funeral and all that jazz. Anywho my mom and dad had both left me and my brothers and sister at the hotel. Well long story short I heard a scream, walked into the bathroom only to see my little brother had fallen into the toilet. I was laughing so friggin hard that I started crying. It was hilarious. So probably the universe punishing me for laughing at him :P

My relationship with my mother (my dad passed away) is great as long as i don't find myself with her in the same room. She's not a bad woman, she just have terrible temper and can't control it.

Well, this one time, I hopped into my dad's Porsche when he was probably going to get drunk at the bar and I didn't want to be in an empty house since my mother was probably doing the same, and as we pulled out, he looked at me and was like "kid, what are you doing?"

I think he had forgotten my name.

And then we drove up the side of my house.

It was nice.

...oh, was that not what you were looking for?

(The above story is not true. Parts of it are, but I stay home alone those nights. I don't actually drive up walls. Silly.)

I love my mom and dad but sometimes I seriously can't even stand being in the same room with them.

Like my mom has been badgering me about college and everything ever since the first day of my senior year. Its been like 3 weeks of school so far. Literally she is trying to get me to bribe some of my teachers into writing me a good letter of recommendation. I feel like this is an insult to character and I would feel awful if I did try and suck up. I'm not a terrible person in class...I'm quiet, respectful, and do all my work without any complaints. I may have been to 3 high schools in total, but she acts as though no teacher remembers me or even likes me just because I've had less time with them than some other people. Which is not the case, no teacher I've met except one has disliked me my whole life. And the only reason that one teacher didn't like me is because I went to the counselor and dropped out of pre cal after my jaw surgery since the teacher really sucks at teaching and I was going to fail and have an F on my transcript. So I retook pre cal this year and low and behold my grade is a 99 right now.

Obvi it wasn't that pre cal was too hard for me to learn, it was the teacher's crappy method of teaching.

Anywho, what's some times when your parents drove you crazy?

Well, I'll say the letter of recommendations are only for your own good~

I used to ask for those all the time back when I worked jobs. It increases your chances of getting to the place you're applying for~

Your mom may be a bit compulsive about getting you to go through it, but it's out of concern of giving you the best for when you step into your future~

I'm grateful my now deceased stepdad did that for me~ advised me now to get jobs, what to say for interviews, and to ask for letters of recommendation when transferring jobs/schools~
