Your opinions on MLP Crossovers?

When I say Crossovers I mean something like MLP and an Attack on Titan Crossover, or MLP and Portal, basically any MLP Crossover. Me? I don't like them. At all. I'm sorry, but usually every MLP crossover is....bad, like really bad, horrible actually, makes me shake my head when I see a Crossover, sorry for my negativity, but I'm just being honest. I'm sure there is probably one good Crossover, but, like, almost every MLP Crossover is just bad. What do you guys think? :)

I tend to dislike crossovers in general. They just kind of rub me the wrong way. It's like some kind of OCD kicks in and I'm like "NO THAT CHARACTER DOESN'T GO THERE"

It either has to be really damn good or a parody for me to be into it.

Crossovers.... you either hate them or like them. I don't like them, you cant put a character in a place where they don't belong, it just messes with my head sometimes.

I will likely only find interest if it is fan-made, I do not like seeing professional, TV quality crossovers... so literally what this guy said.

Let me add also that ponies belong in NO OTHER TV SHOW OR SERIES.

It's rarely done...tactfully.

But I like them when they work, like when they give plausible explations than "wowegee, I'm in Equestria now" or when they don't focus on Canon characters too much (or at all).

I'm making a MLP/Dead Space comic, and I do my best to respect both pieces of work.

It's not like the blasphemy that had Issac Clarke visiting Equestria. Gross.

It's just non-canon oc ponies trying to survive the necromorph horde inadvertently brought down on their heads by Discord's release from his stony prison in Return of Harmony.

It's less crap than it sounds, I swear.

I don't like em. They pretty much suck. Especially those human in Equestria ones where they put in unfunny refrences and sell em off as jokes. Yeah terrible. Also I know there may be a few good crossovers fanfics but I have yet to read one.

That fanfic you're doin is the kind that can be good if you do it right. I hope to read it someday man. Seems like it could be interesting.

Normally I do not really enjoy them. For me to really enjoy a cross over, it normally has to be somewhat self aware, and realize the sillyness of a cross over and just go over the top with it. Because a cross over is almost always breaking canon and tone of the show, so it needs to know this and just have fun with the idea.

mighty-morphin-power-rangers.jpg?w=670&hLike these guys showing up in EqG. The idea is so silly to begin with, and as long as it is over the top it is enjoyable as it realizes how silly crossovers are, and just has fun with the idea.

Well the main problem with crossover is explaining how the character end up in Eqeustria. Honestly I don't think it really matters but for some reasons people care a lot about this. I mean, the most straightforward explanations would be its a different planet or, magic teleport due to plot requirement.

Thank you, friend

You're too kind

Even if you do never read it, I appreciate the thought

I mean, it has a nice, sizeable following

That big a group of people liking something can't be wrong, right? Eheheh...?

Ah, screw it. Have a random page.

Most pages are NSFW, on account of necromorphs not playing nice, s have a tame, bloodless one

I think crossovers can be really well done, if the person doing it is familiar with the things they are crossing over, and knows how to do it well.

I legitimately think that MLP could be theoretically crossed over with any kind of game, book, cartoon, comic or whatever and have it turn out to be good in the hands of the right kind of person. It doesn't matter. I've seen them done well a few times. Then again I don't believe there is any kind of particular story that is just inherently bad. There might some kinds of stories that just aren't to my taste at all, but I think the actual quality depends almost entirely on the execution of it.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?

I don't like them because most of them are all the same.  They spend a thousand words or so introducing the characters to each other, say some cliche lines and that's it.  They're not very imaginative.  Or most aren't.  I expect there are a few good, ambitious ones out there.  I have yet to see them.

If the author has a good understanding of both stories(FIM and whatever the cross is) and I have at least some interest in what it is crossing with then the fic tends to be good.  If I am not disinterested in the cross and the author is good then it can be good.  If the author is trying to cross with something they are not freshly and deeply knowledgeable of, then it tends to stink.

Actually I am more interested in tracking down say Star Trek authors who crossed with My Little Pony than My Little Pony authors who crossed with Star Trek.  Of course this means tracking down the site in question that handles such things or neutral ground like fanfiction as opposed to fimfiction.

Oh, and it is best if it has an actual storyline -- not "I think it would be interesting to mix MLP with say Read or Die."

For the most part, I avoid crossovers due to their tendency to be sloppy and unfaithful to both properties they try to haphazardly combine. On the couple of rare occasions where I read crossover fics they tend to fall flat. The only times they had any sort of quality was when I read an XCOM crossover that went out of its way to make it clear that the writer was probably on at least two separate stimulants, and the other was Turnabout Storm.

Crossovers are.. Either amazing, or horrible.

If done well, amazing. If done sloppy, horrible.

Take FoE for example. That would count, mh? Since Fallout and MLP being pushed together.. That turned out fine!

Alot of crossovers arent done really well though

Depends.

If it's the X gets dropped in Equestria: No!...okay Doctor Whooves is an exception but to be fair this is a guy who travels through time in space in a blue box. This doesn't sound that farfetched.

Ponification Crossover with it's own story (Ex. Silent Ponyville, Fallout Equestria) yeah, it could work as long as it captures the spirit of what it's crossing over with and is well written.

I love crossovers they have been one of my favorite things since I was very small as for MLP crossovers it depends who they are crossovered with and how it was executed, the only thing I like to see crossovered with MLP is TF2

I've had mostly positive experiences with them.

My Little Timelord
MIA
The Daily Show Presents: Equestrian Interviews
Stardust

These are great fics. And I dearly wish My Little Timelord hadn't been abandoned, as it was truly spectacular while it lasted.
