This is probably gonna sound dumb...but can you still buy PC games on discs? Because my download speed isnt that good, and i rather just put the disc in, type in the code, and play the game.

Yes, you can  :)

I actually purchased my copy of Metro: Last Light from Gamestop and it was on a disk.

All of my other games were downloaded through Steam using my on-campus internet connection (far faster than my current one).

The Magic of Honesty

So when the steam summer sale comes, besides GTA V, I'm thinking about buying Witcher 3. I've seen some good praise for the game, and no, not just from crap sites like IGNorant and Gameshit, but people with unbiased opinions. No, not Angry Joe, either. One of my friends bought the game on launch and said that it's pretty fun, and the only thing wrong with it is the visual downgrade. It's pretty well optimized on PC.

Now a question. Has anyone played the other 2? Will I miss anything if I skip those two?

I've played only Witcher 3 but I thought I would reply to this. You're not required to play other Witcher games to understand what's happening in Witcher 3; my understanding is that Witcher games do tie in with one another but each game has their own stories. There were some references to Witcher 2 which I didn't understand but it didn't interfere with my experience in playing the game.

It's going to take almost 5 days to download GTA 5 on my crappy network connection.. (I used a download time calculator to find that out)

What am I supposed to do within that time frame?!? D: I need my GTA!

So I recently got Witcher 3, I have a problem with it.  I let it update and now it's lagging, badly.  I don't know how to fix it, I've been playing around with the graphics to see if that was the problem.  It didn't help at all.  I was wondering if there was going to be a patch fixing this?  Or am I left with a faulty game?  My graphics card it a Geforce GTX 970 and my CPU is an i7-4770.

Well one thing is that the Nvidia hair setting is known to take up quite a bit of resources; best to turn that off.

That was one of the first things I turned off.  Sorry I didn't mention that before.

Setting everything to either Medium or High significantly improved my framerate without making the game look much worse. On a 970 @ 1600p here so you may not need to cut back as much.

So does anyone have an opinion on this light-gaming setup @1080p for my mother and I?  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ntj4Q7

My budget is ~$500 but I'm willing to go a bit higher for a modular PSU and a good case.

And though the Motherboard is H97 it can still overclock the CPU just fine.

Why not go amd, there cpu's are pretty good for gaming, cheap and you proberly won't exceed your $500 budget. i am using an amd build, no issues

I honestly would go for the 860K over the G3258 due to the quad-core design (as opposed to the dual-core Pentium).

Amd fx6300 3.5 6 core cpu would be better, thought you would want to put a good gpu aswell. i would recommend the r9 270x.

The problem was, was that everything lags or is slow.  I don't know why.  I know I probably don't need to cut back so much but it's been driving me crazy.  I enjoy the game regardless, but the way everything lags or stutters, it was giving me a headache.

What framerate are you getting and what are your graphical settings?

I set it to a maximum of 30 fps, my graphic settings are on medium with a resolution of 1360x768.  I'm rather new to pc gaming so you'll have to pardon my ignorance.  I turned V-sync off, should it be on?  I turned motion blur off and that seemed to help it a tiny bit when I first started the game.

These are my settings:

-Hair: Off

-# background characters: High

-Shadow: High

-Terrain: Ultra

-Water: Ultra

-Grass: Ultra

-Texture: Ultra

-Foliage range: Medium

-Detail: Ultra

-Motion Blur: Off

-Blur: On

-AA: Off

-Bloom: On

-Sharpening: Low

-Ambient Occlusion: SSAO

-Chromatic Aberration: Off

-Vignetting: Off

-Light shafts: On

I get usually between 30 to 50FPS with these settings unfortunately (my PC has i7-4770K, GTX 670 2GB VRAM, 16GB RAM); unsure whether my PC is too weak to run game at constant 60FPS at high settings or if there are specific graphical settings that use quite a bit of resources but don't actually change graphics much. Either way, Witcher 3 is very demanding; can run BF4 and CODAW on max/near max settings at high framerate but not for Witcher 3.

Edit: O. You're saying game ran better prior to update?

Couldn't even play my game before it updated considering the GOG galaxy client kept bugging out on me.  I only got the game a few days ago so I can't really say how it was running before.  I don't really have any other PC games yet so I can't really compare it to another.

*Shrugs*. I don't think you have defective copy (if that's possible) but more probable that Witcher 3 is simply quite demanding; we have almost same CPU and your GPU is more powerful than mine.

By the way Steam sale began. Prepare your wallets.

No doubt, wish it could fix itself when it comes to conversations though.  I wish I could buy stuff off of Steam but I have metered internet.  -_-

I have an idea: instead of buying games, buy discs for a small fee, then you buy the code on Steam. I hope i am making sense. this would be good for people who dont have good internet.

Why not just buy the discs, activate the license key on Steam and put in the discs in your optical drive and install them that way?
