I'm gonna say no to mane six romantic relationships because as has been pointed out already, the love interest would have to be a prominent character to feel like the relationship wasn't just shoehorned in, and adding a new mane character at this point would throw off the balance.

 

But maybe the CMC could get a new male member (as much as I would love to see homosexual relationships represented in children's programming, I doubt even this show would do it to this point in history) and he could have a cute, schoolyard romance thing with one of them. I would be okay with that.

I like romance in general, but not in MLP:FiM. I don't really know why, but I'd prefer there's zero romance plot in the next seasons...

I wouldn't mind terribly if they brought back Cheese Sandwich and explored some kind of budding crush between him and Pinkie, but otherwise I feel like romance subplots would be highly unnecessary. Unless they're romances that don't pan out for comedic purposes, like those of "Hearts and Hooves Day" or "Simple Ways".

 

Furthermore, it seems like canonizing certain ships is the number one way to cause unnecessary drama within a fandom, and this fandom could certainly use less of that. To this day, I can still hear the screams of Zutara shippers...

I'd be cool with some romance n the show, definitely if done right. I'm a bit of a sucker for a decent romance/coupling. If I'd to pick one of the mane 6 to get a relationship it'd be Fluttershy. I've said it before but I think it'd be a reasonable way of expanding her character, or at the very least giving her something to do. I think it would be funny to see Fluttershy being overly cutesy with somepony and them reciprocating only for the rest of the mane 6 (especially Dash) to be kind of annoyed by it. Being with a special somepony could also help Fluttershy to open up a bit more and become a bit more confident, because this is something that relationships can actually do in real life for people. In the end though, the relationship wouldn't last and Fluttershy would learn that relationships come and go but your friends will always be there, and even though she's been dumped and lost somepony from her life she's going to become stronger and more self reliant because of it. And of course that special somepony should be...Discord!

I doubt it. Most of the characters are female,and I don't think Hasbro wants gay/lesbian relationships in their show.

 

There was a lot of RariJack and FlutterDash shipping fuel in Trade Ya. They might throw some hints here and there,but that's it. 

Chances are,if they do make any ships canon,it will be heterosexual ships like CelestiaCord and SoarDash. (< I despise SoarDash so much. Almost as much as Sparity.)

 

I personally would like to see Shining Armor divorce Cadence to be with Flash Sentry.

Lyra x Bon Bon is more or less canon in the Equestria Girls universe, but I doubt it will migrate to Friendship is Magic.

 

The only conceivable ship I can see happening in Friendship is Magic would be Twilight Sparkle x Flash Sentry. But even that seems unlikely to me.

 

If there are any more weddings, they'll likely involve characters introduced specifically for that plot line.

If any ships happen, they will be straight ships - though I doubt even those will be that prevalent. The series doesn't have a very high focus on romance, after all.

I would be surprised if they had any obvious canon pairings in S5 as as others have said, the show isn't really about romance. Maybe some new minor characters, or possibly even a Cheerilee/Big Mac hint like in Filli Vanilli, but I don't think anything with the Mane 6, or if there is it'll be a one-episode crush type thing like Rarity/Trenderhoof in Simple Ways. I guess they could do FlashLight in FiM, but I think(/hope) they'll want to keep that to EQG, as Twilight and pony!Flash don't even know each other.

 

I'm just hoping that the rumour that they might

make Fluttercord canon in S5 isn't true. I love their friendship as it is and sometimes don't even mind the ship in fics/art etc, but I would haaaate it to be canon for so many reasons D: I think it would be a big risk though.

. I know none of my ships are gonna be canon, but as long as they get some cute friendship moments I'll be happy

I don't think "shipping" should become a thing in the show. I don't really understand peoples fascinations with making characters in their shows be in love with each other and make the beast with two backs all the time. People cringe at the name of flash sentry, imagine what would happen if they made everyone start having their own versions of flash. This is still a kids show aimed at girls 12 and younger.

If it's anything like Flashlight then short answer, no!  (Long answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!)

 

My main gripe with the way they've handled that romance is that is was a forced cute-meet thing, never-mind Flash have absolutely no personality and that they played it the same way a lot of other shows play it out, where the relationship is more important than the friendship like if you don't get romantically involved with someone you're doing something wrong, as if to say "Friends are good, but if you don't have a love interest you're a loser who can't figure out that you're not complete and you'll be miserable forever" And on top of that it's always the first guy/girl in media, like you never have multiple boyfriends or girlfriends in real life. 

 

If they want to try to pull it off, then that's fine but I'm going to remain very cautious while the staff try it out.

If it's the Mane 6 helping a couple romantically involved. That's fine. Of course, if the male happens to suddenly be attracted to one of the Mane 6 which causes problems with that couple and the episode is about resolving that, it's also fine.

 

I'm not above to having the CMC be involved with some boy which challenges their friendship.
