What's up with Call of Duty hate?

I don't hate the series, but I just find it incredibly boring. Also, I feel the gameplay isn't fast-paced enough. I've given the series a couple chances, but I just don't like it.

I haven't played CoD, but I will say that by this point, CoD has as much haters as it has its fans. It's kind of funny to see that people complain that CoD is the same thing, yet they're not complaining about Pokémon.

The games may be not as good as what everybody thinks, but to say that all CoD players are whiny 12 year olds is kind of unfair, don't you agree? All fanbases has their good and bad points, but stereotyping one shows that you are a little pessimistic. -3-

I don't like COD, but I think back to when I was younger and loved the games so I can't hate on it too much. I just dislike how much it has been milked and called an innovation over the predecessor and they go out and charge you full price for the game and a ton more for DLC's. It just promotes lazy game development, but I assume even if Call of Duty had never existed things would still probably end up like this, everyone wants to make a quick buck with little effort.

I generally like the series (a couple are actually some of my all time favorite games), but it kinda... jumped the shark when Black Ops came out. And then it jumped the shark, did a 720 kickflip, and landed in the tail of a unicorn when MW3 came out. And then from what I hear, it jumped the shark, parasailed across the Pacific ocean, stabbed the shark king in the dick, and then hoverboarded home atop a force field made entirely out of jumped sharks when Ghosts came out.

But then, I have yet to play that particular game, so I can't really be sure yet.

I liked all COD Games I played by myself (COD 3 - Black Ops 2), the only reason I didn't played Ghosts(Except SP) and AW is, because both came out for PS4 too and I want buy them with PS4 then.

Sure, the MP can be annoying sometimes, but with friends it is still fun. It's also one of the barely games nowaydays, where you can play with friends on one TV together splitscreen. Most games have only online in MP.

I don't like CoD, cause it has that aggressive image, y'know MLG and all that shit. Especially when people are ranging at you, but that's just my opinion, and like in the start-post mentioned, there are always black sheeps.

Now, let's get into the objective part.

For once, i like CoD, now, if you think about it and not about the (at some points) "dumb" community. It has great mechanics and graphics. I don't want to point out everything, but i know, that at least black ops 2 isn't a bad game. Infact it's a pretty good one, if you consider everything unique about it. (Maps, weapons, graphics, implementation of the gamemodes ect...)

So no doubt that it is a good game.

What was happening to ghosts now?

(i think it was that way.)

While the development of ghosts, the two leaders of Infinity Ward left and went over to EAGames for titanfall. And i guess that was certainly a problem, there is nothing more i can tell you.

Is it REALLY that bad it's being made out to be by a majority of people, or has it just become another cliché to hate on the Call of Duty franchise?
As someone who has played quite a bit of Call of Duty, let me tell you why I dislike the series for the most part: unbalanced gameplay, Killstreaks and Scorestreaks, Terrible community of players, usually bad maps (The exceptions to this IMO are Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops), consistently terrible spawning, camping is king, and a whole host of other issues.

It delivers what it needs to deliver = a good and solid single-player,
Not since 4 it hasn't.

fast-paced action, adrenalin pumping gameplay and so forth.
Serious Sam has this in spades. You should go play that instead.

I mean, sure, the series have had its share of black sheep, but what game series hasn't?

I don't hate it but I won't pick it up because I honestly don't see a difference between any of the games. I also am not a big fan of either online play or FPS in general. I like to play multiplayer with my friends in the same room, I just find that much more fun. I also don't enjoy people I don't know screaming in my ears over the mic. If I want to play something like this with my friends I break out European Assault on my Gamecube. It's simple, easy, and the ragdoll physics make it that much more fun. If I just want to shoot things, I can play Battlefield 1942 on my laptop

I agree with you that Call of Duty 4 had one of the best single-player experiences in the series, but I don't agree that there hasn't been one AFTER it. Ultimately, it's completely subjective what we ourselves view as best and not best, so let's just agree to disagree. x)

True, but I would rather play a Call of Duty game with some context.

I used to adore the CoD series, Call of Duty 4 will always be one of my favourite games of all time. The last game I played was Black Ops 2.

There's a lot of reasons why CoD suffers a lot of hate; it's fanbase, repetitiveness, lack of originality, but I think a lot of the issues, especially with the more recent editions, is that the developers seem to care more about the multiplayer than the campaign. I hardly played Black Ops 2's campaign, just thought it was ridiculous.

Personally, I don't play CoD. I play DOOM, TF2, Quake, and so on. (Listing games in the same genre.)

But I will agree hating on CoD has overstayed its welcome.

Some people hate on CoD because of repetitive sequels. What about MegaMan, Metal Slug, Super Mario, and Smash Bros.? They can have the flaws of CoD applied to those games, yet those games are some of my all time favorites. MegaMan could have the flaw applied by saying "Same thing except with different robots." But I still love the series.

We just happen to like more, so we would want a sequel. (C'mon Valve, where's three!?)

I think the only way Imma end up playing a CoD game is probably to coop with a particular friend. We've been on a cooping spree the last couple months since I got Gold Membership back on my 360. In the last month and a half we've played Resident Evil 6, Gears of War 1-3, Halo 3 and we just finished Resident Evil 5. At some point we'll probably play at least one CoD game.

The thing is that the same flaws can't actually be applied to every series. Something that ruins one series might not be that big of a deal in another. I suppose how much one loves a particular series might have to be taken into account but my point stands.

Can we just discuss how shit the PC ports have been up until Advanced Warfare?

Dear god, they were bad. No text chat, no changeable FOV, performance issues, no way to change the volume of independent sound elements, the list goes on and on...

It is popular, and people feel it doesn't deserve to be. that is why it is hated.

That, and how a lot of those FPS games are almost exactly the same.

Finally... Have you seen what fans of that series do to their replay vids?

  • 6 months later...

1.Most of its fans are so annoying and hate any game series or franchise that isn't a shooter.

2.Most of its fans are annoying children, like really annoying children.

3.The series barely changes, just some military thing.

Annual releases on top of a community worst than most for a popular franchise will draw hate, lots of it. Personally I don't hate the franchise but only because I like Treyarch's games for the very obvious reason of zambweenies. Also since playing from MW2 I can safely say while yes they all play the same in terms of objective and how to play, each company has their own little bit of flavor here and there that does change the feel to some extent. But to not sound like I love Call of Duty because I don't really care for it much, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer has let me down to the point I am never buying their games again. Treyarch...Blops2 was ok but wasn't terrible plus they actually tend to their game and have a decent community manager, time to see if their extra year of dev time will pay off this year.

Early Call of Duty games were made well, they had stages and we're easy to pick up, the soundtrack's were epic and focused on World War II, so no matter how old they get, you can go back and play them, and still enjoy the game play. Newer Call of Duty games are mostly banal, the soundtrack sounds too generic, the stages are too long and difficult to figure out, finally the new games seem dated, that they try too hard to be contemporary, new Call of Duty is a trend follower, echoing Battlefield, which also started out in World War II, lastly, it seems like graphics and details, are taking over the game play and soundtrack, unlike Halo or Medal of Honor, they focus more on the game, and less of the appearance, thus are consistently good games, no matter how old or new they are, as a result it is frustration that new games are not as appealing as the older games.

People generally hate the game and the franchise because the majority of players are people who are considered "scum" to modern society and filled with 12 year old boys claiming to have had it away with your mum and whoever else female in your family. Because of that, the CoD community is generally considered a bad one. A few bad apples ruin the bunch as they say. However in this case the majority of the apples are bad. Another reason as to why people may dislike the franchise is the major repetition the game uses. Every CoD game is more or less 50% exactly the same as the game before it. Just different weapons and maps, as far as multiplayer is concerned. The story is more or less always exactly the same only with different characters and a few twists and turns here and there. The franchise is just a little too "samey".

Being someone that enjoys the series quite a bit, I can say this: Over-saturation. Each year there is a new COD and each time it is hyped to the moon, when the last two have been kinda...meh. Eventually I think people get tired of hearing about it. Plus the games are subject to terrible business practices, like cutting content for DLC. The zombies mode for Advanced Warfare? Obviously cut out from the game to sell to us later.

Even with all of this, I am pretty excited for Black Ops 3 but nothing else beyond that. I don't think many are excited for Ghosts 2..The series is on a downhill progression because of over-saturation.
