What Fantasy Race would you most like to be?

That's kinda precisely my point. The odds are so against humans that the only way they really survive and become heroes is because the author thinks his own race should have a slice of the action.

 

Loyalty is often stronger in races like dwarves and (depending on the number of subraces) elves than any human. Even man's own curiosity and ingenuity is eclipsed completely by gnomes.

That's also true but in most fantasy the world has dangers far beyond what we have to deal with in reality. You would naturally need a species, or multiple species', capable of surviving unreal dangers sometimes beyond the realms of their own world even.

 

You could say that the humanoid races at least could be an evolutionary offshoot of humans who managed to evolve to survive such perils too but humans as we are in this world wouldn't survive a horde of fire demons impervious to pain.

I completely forgot their name, but they're spirit-like demons that can easily manipulate/control other living beings for short periods of time. I love mischief, so these would be kind of cool. Actually, a Draconequus would definitely work too...

well seeing as humans can thrive in harsh environments (north africa, the mongolian steppes, the wilds in general) and have survived several outbreaks of plagues, I don't think you really know what you're talking about.

I don't see how other races existing would affect our ability to survive. Obviously the humans in fictional writing have faced those dangers and have survived, and going off of your logic, the only reason those other races have survived is because the writers made them, seeing as those savage worlds have immense creatures that could kill primitive elves and dwarves and goblins as easy as a human.

Plus, I don't see how the other races are any better at surviving, like elves and dwarves. If anything the dwarves are also at a disadvantage because of the huge creatures that live in fantasy worlds and theyre smaller than humans.

A True Vampire. Or rather a human that was turned to a vampire through magical means instead of being bit, thus making that person the first in that specific breed of vampire and are demigod-esk in their abilities. 

Examples include Alucard from Hellsing and Evangeline from Negima

Well I made up my own race called the gunners where you probably guessed they carry guns with them and have shooting competitions and what not and kids learn how to hold them. Plus nukes are invented and where is there war there is epic and heroes and there is no media or mobile phones.
