I personally don't believe in karma, because I think that if it were real, there would be no need for a social justice system... but I wish karma was real. So many bad things would stop immediately.

So what are your thoughts?

Yes I do, the final part of the Wiccan Rede is about Karma "Do as you will, as long as you harm none. Remember the rule of three. what you do, comes back to you threefold"

I don't believe in it. Iv'e seen enough about people out there to tell that good or bad isn't rewarded or punished in any way. You should do good if you truly believe in it, not at the whimsical tides of a supernatural force or entity. As stated earlier by others though, wish it did exist, actually - would definitely prevent a lot of heartache and sorrow that way.

No I don't, it's a shame though, karma could really benefit some people who act horrible without consequences.

Karma... huh. As I understand it, the term "karma" is hideously misunderstood and misused. I am not by any means an expert on the subject, but the idea that "if you do bad stuff, then bad stuff happens to you" (a wiccan belief, basically "anything you do returns upon you threefold") is often mistaken for the Buddhist idea of a circle of reincarnation, in which immoral actions in this life mean that you, in your next life, are reincarnated as a "lower order" animal, and moral actions cause you to be reborn as a higher animal (aka human), until you achieve "nirvana" or enlightenment, and can leave the resurrection cycle entirely to join Buddha in a higher plane of existence.

I'm not sure I can believe in some kind of nebulous "something" that dictates that this should be true, in either case.

No, I don't. It would imply some kind of objective morality, as well as some kind of agent that enforced it.

The universe will not enforce justice (besides in coincidental ways), or even define it for us. That does however not mean that the universe is a horrible place. It just mean that it's important that we ourselves take this role.

I don't believe in some supernatural force, but I instead see "Karma," as the way in which others treat you for your actions. It's never solid, never set, but the will of justice-loving humans brings it into being in a metaphorical sense.

"Q'sal, a singular, labyrinthine mind composed of a billion conflicting, paradoxical wills. Have you ever seen the swirling Aetherstorms in it's atmosphere? Smelled the shifting perfumes of intrigue upon it's people? Tasted the gluttonous banquets of ambition permeating from the Sorcerer-Technocrats? Heard the exquisite lies and thoughts of an unknowable population? No Slaaneshi pleasure I have indulged in comes close to that feeling, only in the embrace of Apotheosis could one aspire to find anything greater."

I sort of do. Then again, I can't recall being rewarded right away for my good acts, or being punished for my bad ones (if I'm not caught lol).

Yes I do belive in karma since when you do something it comes back to you. Bad and it bites you in the ass if good it rewards you.

Bad people have had karma on them

Hitler committed suicide and lost ww2. He had invaded Poland,France,Africa,Russia and he lost it all.

Mussolini was killed by his own people after he had an alliance with hitler.

Kaiser wilheim II lost ww1 after trying to take over France.

Although I think robert e lee was a good man, he had karma since he had a lot victories against the union till Gettysburg in 1863 since he got very cocky he would win it. Guess karma came to bite him in the ass.

The world is not black and white enough for karma to be that noticeable but I defiantly think it does exist, its just not as clear as people want it to be.

I don't believe that karma as a supernatural force exists (though I also don't believe that it doesn't exist), but the idea of it- goods rewards come from good actions, bad outcomes from bad actions- makes sense to me in this world. It doesn't seem to apply all the time, but it does often enough for me to take it seriously :) It's a decent enough concept at the very least, and one I'd like to remember if I ever forget why I should do the right thing.

I don't. And I think what's generally more important than a person "getting what they deserve" is to move on. Because while you delve in your own hatred for someone, that person is living and dealing with their own life. It's pointless to hold a grudge over someone (although it's understandable if it's for something VERY serious).

I don't really believe in it, but since it has somehow bitten me in the rear so many uncountable times, I might actually change my mind. But for now, I'm gonna stick with it doesn't exist.

Karma is a very misunderstood term.

It's usually presented in a way that if you do bad, then bad returns to you, and when you do good, then good returns to you. This is not true, since there is usually no correlation. I know of many "karma tricksters" who can do so many bad things and the shit never gets back to them. (Know any politician?) I also know many "karma shields" which attract all the shit to them like a magnet, despite they don't do anything bad. So no, it doesn't work that way, sorry.

What is true, however, is these:

1. Karma is the law of causality.

Every action causes some change of state in the Universe (a reaction). It can be a good reaction, a bad reaction, a neutral reaction, a bizarre reaction, whatever. But there's always one. You just need to pay attention to the little details. If you master the cause-effect law, you can predict things and control it. That's what science is all about. (Not necessarily THE science.)

2. Karma is about memory.

Whatever change of state you cause, it must persist out there for some time for the karma law to work. Oftentimes, it is your own memory which makes karma work: you lived some life, you had your experiences, and now they remain in your head, influencing your every thought and future perception. You see the world through the glasses of your past experiences, so to speak. And if these glasses are skewing the image, you'll get shit from the Universe, because your view of the world doesn't match the reality. And this is when your ass is kicked, because the Universe tends to force you into the right path, by making your circumstances feel bad. It is a signal that you're doing it wrong and you need to correct your course. The problem is that most people don't. And when they don't, they repeat their errors over and over, their ass being more and more kicked. And that's what they call "bad karma" or "bad luck".

Remember the cartoon called "Tom and Jerry"?

The cat always gets his ass kicked and all his plans to catch the mouse fail. "Bad karma", one could say, but the real reason is that the mouse is smart and the cat is dumb. The cat does not learn from his mistakes, so he repeats the same errors over and over.

So don't wait for the Universe to do your karma. It is your own duty to fix it.

Also, don't wait for the Universe to send bad stuff to people who does bad things, because it can never happen. Karma won't do itself; it's always through these little agents (Santa's little helpers), that is, people and objects, through which karma expresses itself. If someone's doing something bad to you, give him a solid feedback. If someone's erring, correct him. Sometimes it's just enough to let them know, to make the thing get through to their awareness. (They might simply be not aware of their mistake and that's why they were doing it.) But keep in mind that you're not the karma by yourself. (It's more complicated.) Everyone needs to learn his/her lesson on his/her own. As Morpheus said in "The Matrix": "I can only show you the door, but it is you who needs to pass through it."

If you want to avoid your "bad karma", pay attention to your actions and what reactions do they cause. Learn from your errors, bear the consequences and go on. Correct your mistakes, and soon your bad karma will be gone. On the way, you'll need to revise your beliefs, reframe your past experiences and learn new things. But at the end, there's enlightenment waiting for you. The enlightenment is: "There is no spoon" ;)
