Why Does Equestria Girls Get So Much Love These Days

Okay, so I explained why I hated this movie on the thread, Why Does Equestria Girls Get So Much Hate or something similar to that, on page 9. I would put the link but I'm using a 3DS to type this and it is very primitive in terms of its internet browser. Either way you should be able to find it and I will put the link next time I'm on my PC. I strongly suggest that you read that before reading this.

I have seen many reviews of this peice of garbage, and I was shocked to see that most reviews were: 'meh... Brad was annoying, but overall I loved it'. Now when the movie was announced people were angry about this, and I cannot believe what possessed them to think that they overreacted. EVERY CONCERN CAME TRUE. People were saying how much they loved it and that goes to show how overly positive this fanbase is. If you like the movie, you too are insulting Lauren Faust and the original team, as I have clearly explained my reasons on a different thread.

Please give me a reason why EQG 1 was good in any way.

I see EQ as an excuse for hasbro to sell dolls to compete with other popular selling dolls like monster high,barbie ect. As sad is it is i don't think that many kids like mlp so they are trying to widen their market with humanoid dolls. I believe that is the only reason behind ever making EG. Sorry if that sounded like a ramble

But I think the love for the films is the fanbase trying to support the show in anyway they can.

I dunno bro, it's a kids movie so going in hoping for a huge block buster thats gunna blow lord of the rings and shit out of the water is already setting yourself up for disappointment. I just think it's fun. I had fun watching it, and I really like the songs. That's what I watch MLP for in the first place.

Because I think the original EQG really wasn't all that awful. It was just kinda meh.

 

 And then Rainbow Rocks came and was a massive improvement, that's actively made me look forward to a third movie just as much as season 5.

OT: I didn't like the first Equestria Girls very much either, but it was definitely entertaining. I understand what you're trying to say, but people have the right to like whatever they want. EQG wasn't that bad, honestly. Plus, the second movie was a major improvement.

Yeah, I've heard from many that story and character-wise, the films aren't that bad.

But I don't think I'm capable of liking Equestria Girls. I dislike it at the very conceptual level.

Better villains, improved animation, better humor, and the story was less bland. Battle of the Bands might be overdone, but it's a lot better than doing the "Prom queen" thing.

 

The major reasons for me though were Sunset and the Dazzlings. Sunset is a billion times more likable as a protagonist than an antagonist. The Dazzlings were much better villains than old Sunset to me.

 

 And yeah, the songs too.

Equestria Girls is hardly the greatest film of all time, but it's enjoyable enough to watch. It has nice music, and the ponies all look cute in human form - even moreso when they get the pony ears.

 

The vast majority of complaints I've seen levelled against it are complaints about Hasbro's motivation in making it, and about its marketing, and so on and so on. Most of the Equestria Girls haters barely seem to mention any reasons that are related to the film itself - its writing, animation style, music, editing, etc.

If Lauren Faust feels personally insulted by the fact that I, somebody who she has never met, enjoy a film that she never worked on, then frankly she must be barking mad.

The film is not good by any means.

So why do I like it?

Well... it's still mlp. Thr black sheep, but mlp nonetheless.

I don't like mlp for its stories, which I find extremely predictable. If I did, maybe I would have disliked EqG 1.

There's just a charm about FiM. The voice acting, animation and colors are just extremely lively.

All this carried over to EqG 1.

However, the story sucks. The villain sucks.

It's a very cash-in movie.

I get that. Hasbro's gotta compete with Monster High. They gotta make some sort of commercial product to get kids excited. Bam, EqG.

But like I said and how I personally feel, it shares the DNA of FiM despite being it's deformed evil twin that, sure, should have stayed locked up in the attic.

But watching it, I couldn't help but smile.

It was still RD, pinkie, rarity, etc. being the same characters albeit crammed in the rather unfitting hour and fifteen production. They still had thr over expressive faces that remind me of Earthworm Jim, my favorite cartoon ever.

It's not good. It's got plot holes. A tacky love subplot. And 2D villain.

 

But hey. I also like the Virtual Boy.

The moment where Maud suddenly shows up after Twilight and Sunset's discussion. "Boulder was hungry". It came so out of nowhere and had me laughing way too hard. Or Snips and Snails awful, terrible rap, with Pinkie and Sonata just happily dancing along to it. Or Spike Photo bombing Rarity's selfie, and that look he gives her when she calls him out on it. All of these little moments stick out in my head and still make me smile.

 

 Sure, the original had a few moments like that too. Trixie and her peanut butter crackers, or the CMC's internet video. But I can't think of many others beside that.

If I enjoyed Equestria Girl 1, and if that's insulting Lauren Faust and the original team, then do I have to hate it? If we enjoyed it then we enjoyed it. If we like it then we like it. You don't always hate something that you like right? Everyone has their own opinion and I think that every EQG movie is great. 

 

Maybe EQG is getting loved because of the songs?

Because it's cute and colorful, heartwarming, but still interesting enough to keep watching. Aren't the character personalities one of the main reasons people love MLP? Equestria Girls has the same lovable characters from MLP, just in human form.

 

Rainbow Rocks is actually my third favorite movie of all time...
