Scootaloo's Mom Found!

I can't believe no one has caught this before but as I was re-watching the first season this morning, I happen to stumble upon a startling revelation! Scootaloo's Mother has been shown! In the episode "Boast Busters" at 18:55, standing behind Spike and next to Lyra, I believe, is Scootaloo's Mom! Scoot hasn't been introduced yet so I'm wandering if maybe something happened to her Mother in between then and Scoots first appearance. Maybe they are not from Ponyville (because you never see this pony again in the show) Maybe they were just passing through to see Trixies performance and were separated. Scoots Mom might have moved on to the next town looking for her daughter leaving Scootaloo in Ponyville by mistake! I thought this was an interesting idea and I felt like I had to share it with you fellas.

There's certainly a good deal of resemblance there, what with the colors being fairly similar. Hard to say for sure if it's really Scoot's mom, though.

Well it's a better theory than the "her parents are dead for the drama" theory that seems to be disturbingly popular. Just like the one where she'll never ever be able to fly. Does the fandom hate her and I'm the one of the few left out of the loop or something?

Yeah I know it's just speculation but I like to play the "what if" card a lot. I have alternate past theory's to almost all the ponies. But come on she looks just like Scootaloo though!

Well it's a better theory than the "her parents are dead for the drama" theory that seems to be disturbingly popular. Just like the one where she'll never ever be able to fly. Does the fandom hate her and I'm the one of the few left out of the loop or something?

At least the flying thing is backed by the show. She obviously can't fly now which has to be a really huge disability for a Pegasus.

 

As for that pony being her mother, I would not bet on it merely from a few similarities. And Scoots was in the first episode.

Being curious about this I carefully examined S01E06 Boast Busters from 16:00 to 20:00 in the episode and I found absolutely no background ponies which looked enough like Scootaloo to suggest that could be  her mom.

 

But!

 

I did find something very interesting!

 

At 18:04 in the episode we see Derpy clearly standing in the background to the left of Rainbow Dash.

 

 

But, if you look carefully, you can see Derpy's head just to Rainbow's right! Later, at 18:15, we see her, again, clearly standing on Rainbow's right!

 

 

 

Two Derpys in the same scenes? Could this suggest that Derpy actually has a twin?

 

Obviously the "derpy" standing to the right of Rainbow Dash doesn't have any wings but the two look so very much alike that they could easily be mistaken for twins by those who don't know them.

I know she can't fly right now. I mean the theories about her never being able to for her entire life. But in all seriousness, I doubt they would insert a key character's mother in the background a few episode before said character's first appearance for no reason, and I'd rather her mother be an actual character with an actual design and not just a randomly generated background character.

Well, yeah, I know it's the animators getting a bit lazy (or trying to save some money) but that's reality and, when it comes to weird little things like that in the show I hate having reality intrude on it like that.

 

So, that being the case, my fantasy (headcanon style) is that Derpy does, indeed, have a twin sister who pops up every once in a while.

 

Besides, if you think about it, it actally makes sense! In some headcanons Derpy acts perfectly normal where, in others, she's all klutzy and awkward, causing accidents and creating chaos so it would make sense that there's one act-normal Derpy and one klutzy accident prone Derpy.

 

Also, consider the possibilities!

 

Besides, Hasbro's already made it clear they're going to be phasing our lovely Derpy out of the show (WAAAAAAAAAAAA!) so I think we can do pretty much what we want with her. (*ahem!* I heard those thoughts!) If nothing else it'd make some pretty interesting fan fiction, I think.

Fair enough. I guess there just isn't any info I can really use for why Scootaloo can't currently fly because the show itself has yet to properly dive into that subject. All we know for sure is she can't yet and each season apparently shows a slight improvement, but no actual breakthrough. I guess I just think the whole "it will never happen" theory is a little too rough on the poor filly.

As to Scootaloo's parents.  In Call of the Cutie she meets Sweetie & Apple Bloom for the 1st time & they form the CMCs.  This means either:

1) It's a mistake, they knew each other before, just not very well

2) The CMCs are 6 years old & in 1st grade.  This seems a little young to be the last to get cutie marks

3) The school is bigger than shown & there are several classes in each grade.  They've just never been in class together.

4) Scootaloo & (maybe SB as well) just came to town over the Summer & so they've never been to school together.  This is the theory I favor.

 

But, of all the top 10 characters, Scootaloo is the most mysterious, more so than even Fluttershy.  I've seen some fan fics that S is related to F, maybe even her illegitimate daughter.  It makes some sense they would be related because neither can fly very well.

They did know each other before that episode. At least since the return of Nightmare Moon.

They are probably at least 12-14 since Sweetie at five years old was shown and that was significantly younger than the current Sweetie.

I think the two of them probably went to different schools. That really makes the most sense.
