Is Earth Pony magic the strongest type?

I've always thought that unicorns as a group can be dangerous. For what it matters many of the Royal Guards are Unicorns.

True, but those unicorns probably underwent years of both physical and magical training. Comparing them to your average unicorn would be like comparing Muhammad Ali in his prime to some average Joe off the street. It implied in the Canterlot Wedding two parter that Shining Armor has even more powerful defensive spells than Twilight does of course with Twilight's ascension and increase in power due to other factors as well it is possible that Twilight may be able to match him at this point. This is implied to be an extraordinary ability that most unicorns are not able to do.

Agreed but you could say the same about Earth Ponies or Pegesis. Few of the former are as strong as Applejack or the later as fast as Rainbow Dash. Perhaps beyond the special few all the races are equal, but express it in their own unique ways and can be only situationally stronger.
