Why does it matter? Since romance is seldom a heavy plotpoint and just used as a joke most of the time, even determining said information would be a pointless addition to the show. It wouldn't change the show or enhance it in any capacity so it's not even really worth exploring unless the plot was somehow going to be affected by it.

that seems to be inconsistent with cadence and shining armor - princess twilight and cadence allude that the babies do indeed come out of cadence with the latest episode of cadence telling twilight they are having a baby.

Need I also remind you that both characters were married men who loved their wives. The whole plot was one of them trying to get home to see his family and making an unexpected friend on the journey.

 

And since the Dude was more or less exactly like his human counterpart, we can safely assume these two are no different.

Obvious but maybe a bit stereotypical. For all we know, Bulk Biceps might be gay. Then again that might be stereotyping the other direction.

Big Mac seems to be a crossdresser and transgender, a sort of "Queen." As well as part of the Q in LGBTQ.

But he's expressed interest in Marble and while under the influence of the love poison, he was infatuated with Cherilee. Unless the magic also charges orientation, in which case it's even more messed up than I thought, I'm going to keep it that he's pretty darn straight.

 

Plus he wasn't cross dressing for his own sake, he did it for Applebloom. Not that he's not in touch with his feminine side, see Smartypants, but I don't think he habitually cross dresses.

 

Lastly, one can engage in feminine activities while still being perfectly straight. I mean, to use an obvious example, many of us dudes here are straight but we are watching my little pony.

 

let's be honest here - while the original aim of mlp might have been for girls aged 5-11, the demographic that is probably keeping their merchandise alive is probably more in their teens to .. *ahem* - mid 30s

 

as a result it might behoove (hehehe) the creators to pave the proper way for children to have the right idea about relationships, that love is love, before they have to stumble around and try to find it themselves, with possibly disapproving parents; and since there are probably a lot of parents that watch it too, perhaps the lessons of the episodes themselves can seek to also humble and change the minds of those narrow minded adults by doing for the adults exactly what the show is trying to do for the children - educate them and open their minds to the power of love and friendship.

 

Love without boundaries, friendship without conditions.

Take it from a guy in school about children's entertainment right now. That is simply not how it works. In the industry, there is a different between your "audience" and your "market."

 

MLP FiM's audience of grade school girls remains unchanged, but it's market appeal was always meant to be something adults could watch with their kids from its inception.

 

I also think you are imposing a meaning upon the show that is not there. Not that it doesn't teach friendship and other good lessons but it's not the kind of show to explore sexuality, it simply isn't. I think you are more looking for Stephen Universe another great show that appeals to adults and explores sexuality a lot.

In my opinion, I do believe there are but we will NEVER see that revealed in the show. The closest to a canon gay character we've seen was this guy:

Just because Big Mac dresses up doesn't mean he's a gay character exclusively. He was desperate to do anything to help his lil sis and thought that was the only way. It was a gag. Steven dressed up.....doesn't make him gay. Hell....look at the movie Mrs. Doubtfire. Doesn't mean he was gay. So many stars have done it in a movie or show out of desperation.

Probably. It's not implausible, but I don't really detect much going on. Then again, the story focuses on a select few ponies, so we don't get to see what's going on in the lives of every other character throughout the show. But given that it's its own universe, it's safe to assume that there are homosexual ponies in Equestria.

 

They just don't really matter to the story going on.

 

(I must also voice my suspicions about Lyra and Bon Bon. Seeing as how the writers have included a few nod and winks to Bronies with this pair, I'm beginning to think it's not far-fetched that they are a couple.)

if anything just seeing ponies engage however they want in the bg without anything being focused on would be great - kinda like how bonbon and lyra are always nudging up to each other - it's only seen as an issue if you call attention out to it.. just make it all natural, and people will think it's natural too.

 

I am sure mlp doesn't want the religious freaks breathing down their neck, so everything so far has been very much "implied".
