(I'm a bit surprised there hasn't been a thread on this yet) Feel free to discuss the Madoka Magica franchise, including the movies, the anime and manga here.

 

Who's your favourite character from the franchise, and why? I'm going to go with Homura because of her spells, mostly with the guns she uses, and her mysterious nature in the show.

The main thing I dislike about the series is the fact that Madoka is the main character. I hate when there's a main character who literally does nothing but witness the big events instead of being a part of it. There was no reason she couldn't be an important side character.

Yeah, I do agree that it took forever for her ascension. I'm not a huge fun of Madoka Kaname herself.

 

 

Not to mention, she directly got two of her allies killed, especially her friend Sayaka. Granted, she was revived a couple minutes later, and Homura called her out. Nonetheless, the point still stands.

Madoka Magica is one of my favorite anime series of all time. I've  watched it several times and love it in spite of its flaws, I personally think the series is a beautiful work of art. My favorite character is Homura, but I also love Kyoko and Sayaka.

 

I can see your points about Madoka, and she is like that at the beginning...but she's still a good character and takes a more active role near the end of the series. May be biased because of how much I adore this show but I think she was a decent main character.

 

 

Homura is awesome <3 She's not just my favorite of this show, she's one of my favorite anime characters in general.

I am a fan of Kyuubei, not because he is cute, but because he is right.

He explained everything in the end and it made sense. He saved the Earth and the ENTIRE Universe(prolonged the life of it) at the price of some humans' lives. Even if he didn't do anything, humans would still be hunter-gatherers. Kyuubei even said that when humans get to a specific techonological point they would be allies, helping the Universe.

Incubators were born without passion, so I don't think they are at fault for being how they are. Also, he gave every magical girl an insane bonus: a miracle. I would probably sacrifice my life for the well-being of the universe for a miracle like that.

I hope I remembered everything correctly.

I haven't seen Rebellion, and I don't plan to. I thought the series was fine where it ended. I thought it was all meant to be a deconstruction of the magical girl genre anyway.

I'm so glad someone made a Madoka Magica thread. I have only seen the main series, but I have not read the manga nor have I seen Rebellion.

 

My favorite magical girl would have to be Homura. I like her mysterious demeanor and her time traveling powers. I really liked how the series showed her past in episode 10. I also like Mami because she's a character with a lot of potential. To bad she died so early in the series.

To be honest, I thought Kyuubei was just lying and was really a sadist (its not lives that are cost, its SOULS, forced into a tormenting existence, if it was just "hey, you are taking a risk and you probably will die" i wouldnt mind). I mean, seriously, the only source we have of the universe needing intervention from entropy (which is not how the universe works, stars die every day, helping keep balance) is, big shock, Kyuubei himself. He might of just said that, when in reality he loves that he's bringing false hope and later suffering. He might be very emotional....he's just very good at hiding it.

Rebellion WAS INSANE(LY AWESOME).
There was so many plot twists... It blew my mind.

When I first watched Rebellion, I wasn't happy with some of the plot twists. (Homura is my favorite so that didn't help) But I loved it on the second watch. The visuals alone are amazing.

 

I'm not sure if I want another series or not. It depends on how its handled...the first series ended on such a perfect note that a continuation isn't really necessary. If it was certain to live up to its predecessor, I'd like a second season or at least another movie like Rebellion. If not, I'm happy with what we have. After seeing over 40 animes, it still holds up as my all time favorite show.
