The legends surrounding the Danish Flag (the flag of Denmark, which is the oldest flag in use) say that the Danes were at war, and a flag fell out of the sky, which led the Danes to victory. Supposedly, that flag was a sign from God and the Danes were losing.

 

I picture that flag falling from the sky at great speeds, attached to a flagpole, and embedding itself in the ground.
