It usually depends and most of the time I have no specific preference, but if I am in a specific mood, I like listening to music that either has a very relaxing tone that is easily loop-able, usually instrumentals.

I mostly listen to the music that comes from the game but once in awhile I'll just put my entire music collection on shuffle and let it play. Mind you, this is a combination of metal, celtic, electronic, rap, orchestra and rock that could come up at any point.

Don't really listen to music while playing mp games.. most of the time..

 

Otherwise, I'll usually listen to some songs that tend to hype you up, and whatever.

It depends on the game (and its soundtrack), but it's usually intrsumental tracks with the game music muted. Normally I just put my playlist to "All tracks in random order", so I might get some rock/metal, some techno, some orchestral, some ponies...

 

That can result in some interesting combos, like playing a gory game while listening to Smile Smile Smile, or exploring a peaceful, tranquil forest with heavy metal in the background
