I think Chip-tune 8-bit style music is awesome! Though I cannot remember any tracks at the moment as it is a genre I have no thoroughly explored, I love the simple sound of that type of music. The Ice Cave music from Pokemon Crystal springs to mind, I have always loved the sound of it.

his thread reminds me that I need to listen to more 8-bit remixes. :|

Of course not! I love chiptune, and I even write chip myself.(Shameless plug) No matter the system (or, if you wish, bittage, even though classifying chiptune by bittage is probably not the best course of action for a reason or two,) I love it all. Here's a list of some of my favorites from the 8-bit computer & console area (kept in link form in a spoiler because I feel it's gonna be a sizable list, despite how much I want to keep it short):

...Okay, turns out I was right. That's a raaaather long list. Open with caution, not only because of the list's length, but because there's quite a few earworms in there. It should be a nice "mix," however. :P

I love chiptune too...but I don't have the stuff to make it...

Well, I can recommend a couple of programs for legit chip music (all trackers because that's my area of expertise, so sorry if you're expecting something else like, I dunno, DAW plugins):

-FamiTracker, for NES/Famicom music (or the fork I use, 0CCFamiTracker, which adds a few new features not in the vanilla build. This also means files created in 0CCft that use those exclusive features won't work properly in the regular FT build, of course.) Supports almost all expansion sound chips available for the Famicom with the exception of the Sunsoft 5B, which should be available next release (the beta of which is right here.)

-LSDj, for Game Boy. The full version is a pay-what-you-want donation, but you can get the demo version for free. Requires an emulator to run, but the site gives some suggestions such as BGB, which I use. It being system-based rather than emulation like FT means you can use it on an actual GB, too, if you have a way of flashing it onto a cartridge. (Doing so is outside my range of knowledge, though.)

-Deflemask, a multi-system tracker. Not a tracker that I use, as I find its interface a little weird (coming off of FamiTracker, at least) but I've seen (and heard) it being put to good use. Currently supports NES, Game Boy, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Sega Master System, Commodore 64, TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine, and the YMU759 FM chip that was used in some cellphones in the 90s/00s. Support for other systems is planned, too.

-VortexTracker II, for the ZX Spectrum's AY 3-8910 chip/Atari ST's YM2149 chip. Not much I can really say about this one, but it's a nice little tracker.

-Raster Music Tracker, for Atari's XL/XE 8-bit computers. An abandoned tracker that also allows for usage of two soundchips and, in doing so, stereo sound (4 channels to the left ear, 4 to the right).

-VGM Music Maker, for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Abandoned tracker that's an offshoot of TFM Music Maker, another abandoned tracker that emulates the YM2203 used in some early arcade soundboards.

And there's a lot more out there that I know of, but haven't ever used, so I won't list those unless you wish for me to do so. In that case, I'll make a separate post.

The one I would recommend most out of all these would have to be FamiTracker, by far; it's the one being most constantly updated, and there's (8Bit)Danooct1's tutorial videos that, despite being 5 years old, still holds up great IMO. And if you still can't quite get the hang of it, there's the FT Support Forums, where you can go and get some help and feedback.

Hope this helps you out! (and that it's not, like, confusing or anything, because that's one worry I always have when I delve into tracker & chipmusic talk.)
