The ending reminds me of the comic where there's a guy sitting in a burning building on a fancy chair and drinking tea, then the chair catches on fire and he says "Everything is fine.", with a similar expression on his face to the the guy was making when he said "That went pretty well."

I do believe I have seen that, it was a pretty long time ago that i saw that, or something similar to it anyway.
