Does Spike deserve a Season premier or finale episode?

I think a two-parter adventure story season premier, or season finale slice of life episode is just what the litte guy needs to tap into some of the complexities of his character that haven't yet been addressed.

Off the top of my head, for a SoL episode, Spike could have all these insecurities about his purpose in relation to Twilight, now that she's a princess and doesn't need him as a voice of reason and assistant as much as before. He could be bottling these feeling up, walking through the castle, remminiscing on how far Twilight has come, with her friends, and is sad because he feels like he isn't needed like he used to be, grounding Twilight, acting as her conscious, and motivating her, like before. Maybe he's given a song. He wants to tell Twi his concerns, but she's called away by the cutie map, at that time, and after she leaves, Spike looks at the map, wondering if his destiny is mapped out, like the pony's. Maybe he gets a dream sequence with Luna, highlighting his fears and concerns as to where he really fits in with Twi and her friends anymore, what he's needed for. And maybe, through Luna, he realizes that he's meant to branch out from the mane 6, and instead, be a mentor to help the CMC with their own progression and purpose.

Maybe, as far as an adventure 2 part premier goes, Spike could adventure with Zecora, and Pinkie, for an interesting trio that hasn't been done yet.

But what do you guys think?

Hm, I dunno. I like the idea of a Zecora Spike episode. I think it'd be cool if Spike found his real mom as well, but I don't know if we'll ever see that in the show.

A premier or finale episode? Nope. Hes okay and all, but its still My little Pony, not My little Dragon.

so all the main 6 can have premers and finales centered around them, but Spike- the one who was responsible for encouraging Twi to befriend them, in the first place, can't?

No, he already got one in The Crystal Empire

that was a 2 parter centered around Twilight and he test. Not Spike, who didn't do anything at all until the last 5 minutes. Crystal empire was NOT a Spike episode, so don't try to play it off as one.

Maybe. I won't say he deserves one, but in theory one focusing on him might work.

However don't think Spike is all that high of priority for Hasbro or even Studio DHX as far as marketing is concerned, so I would say it is unlikely at this point.

Spike could realize that he's meant to assist anyone who needs it, not just Twilight.

He's already willing to do that. At the beginning of Princess Spike, he tells everyone at the summit that he's willing to help any of them anyway he can.

I kinda see him fill the role of a supporting character better than someone to be given a focus episode. As much as I dislike Spike episodes, I'd still like to see how Spike can still play an important role in the show because he is there "working behind the scenes" to make everyone look good, so to speak. Maybe give him the chance to play a leading role without giving him the idiot ball?

Should they not make any more Spike episodes?

I guess (the show staff certainly could make another one) but I'm erring on the side of caution since I am still a little iffy if the people working in DHX could pull it off. Maybe Spike could be in an episode that gives two characters the spotlight

A whole two-part episode dedicated to him?! Simply put in order to have that work they'd have to make Spike a super mature, confident, and in general stronger character. The shows main character is Twilight and that's the way it stays. It shouldn't just change five seasons in because fans like a certain character.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

I was gonna say "What about Crystal Empire where he gets to save the day?" but then I remember that it was still very much a Twilight ep.

I'm not opposed to see Spike get a premier/finale dedicated to him, but personally I'd prefer the mane 6 sans Twilight get one first

As much as I'd like to see Spike get some really good development, unfortunately DHX doesn't have the best track record of writing Spike when it Spike-Centered episodes. They write him well when he's in a supporting role but when they put him in a starring role they have a tendency to drop the ball and the episode turns out horrendous. Princess Spike is a fine example of this. I'm not opposed to the idea but they need to get a writer that can write him well in a starring episode.

that would defeat the purpose of giving him a bookend episode.

He also saved Twilight from the door of fear in Crystal Empire. I'd like to see more episodes like that. Twilight and Spike working as a team. Amending Fences was a good one. It would have felt a lot more lonely without his presence.

He also has a seat in the castle, so I don't see why the map shouldn't summon him as well. Or at least, whenever it summons Twilight, he should come with her.
