spoiler [SPOILERS] Glowing Cutie Marks?

Many others have pointed this out as well, so I'm not trying to take credit for noticing, but...

This is something that's never really happened before? But now we've seen this happen with Diamond Tiara and Coloratura. (I'm not sure if it happened with others this season, but I could've just forgotten.)

Do you guys think this is just for effect, or does it possibly foreshadow anything, if not in the finale then possibly in future seasons? I don't know, it just seems these incidents were given a lot of attention. It could just be something new they're doing stylistically, but I only bring it up because that kind of stuff never really happened until this season.

What do you guys think?

I don't know. Seems to me that when they happen, it's usually to enforce the meaning of the Cutie Mark after the meaning has been muddled. Like getting a second Cutie Mark. However, only Applejack has noticed this. And the first time it happened to Rara, it didn't seem to be enforcing much.

Both reasons for their cutie marks glowing are quite different.

  1. Diamond Tiara's mark glows because she finally realizes who she can really be. She wanted to change, but didn't know how, and having the cutie mark made her feel trapped. When she finally realized she can use her talents for good, her mark glowed.
  2. Rara's cutie mark glows the moment her singing crescendos into an emotional roller coaster. She can really sing as well as become one with the song. Each time it glows, everyone around her and Rara herself become emotionally attached.

I don't think it is foreshadowing anything at all.

I think it just happens whenever a pony like Rara or Diamond Tiara finally connect to their true selves, and free them self from what they thought their cutie marks meant.  And realize what they truly can do.

Either that or something emotionally connected to the pony involved in their special talent.

My thoughts exactly. Had the reason behind their glowing cutie marks been similar, I would have agreed to your theory. However, it's not. When Rara's at her prime with singing, her cutie mark glows as it was illustrated in Applejack's flashback. It symbolizes how connected she is when singing and pretty much goes with her name as well.

Diamond Tiara simply found another way to use her "talents" or more so she found a better purpose that made her cutie mar glow.

However, if you really want to find some sort of connection with the glowing cutiemarks. I suppose we could look at it on a broader perspective: the more you connect with your talent/purpose/yourself....the stronger your connection with your cutiemark which causes the brief glowing reaction.

My personal theory is that whenever a pony gets closer and closer to their true self the cutie mark glows to reflect that.

^

I'm with this here.

It's like EQG where the Mane 6 pony-up whenever they show their true selves.

If it had happened to more ponies throughout the season, I would have thought it might be foreshadowing to the finale. But since it only happened twice, I can't see how it would connect. I mainly see it as a sort of renewal of their cutie mark. It seems like that when it glows, they're coming to understand themselves better.

I agree with everyone here. Their cutie marks glow when they are being true to their cutie mark, and thus, themselves. In the filly flashback, Countess Coloratura's cutie mark was glowing because she was doing what she was meant to be doing, singing. Diamond Tiara's cutie mark glowed when she had her epiphany regarding who she was as a person. :) I think it is similar concept to season 4. In season 4, The Mane 6 eyes reflected rainbow when they had to make a tough decision that kind of dealt with traits that encompassed their cutie mark. :)

I think there might be more to it otherwise why didn't Trouble Shoe's cutie mark glow when he realized his true self. I think it might be doing what one was destined to do with the best of their ability.

They just got more of a budget is all. They didn't have cutie marks glow before in S1 and S2 due to not having as big of a budget and it wasn't really important. Now Hasbro is willing to bank more money on the show and S5 is about cutie marks, so they're perfectly free to make it flashier when they focus on a cutie mark.
