You honestly think you need to be obsessed to call youself something to be proud of?

To me "Brony" and "Pegasis" are equivalent to "Fanboy" and "Fangirl".

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is just one cartoon I watch. I don't mean to undermine it as it is certainly one of the best cartoons started in many years. However, I'm not at that level of fandom.

This.

"Brony" actually comes from a fusion of "/b/" and "pony". "bro" + "pony" is apparently a widespread misconception. At least, that's what I heard. By that logic, it is, in fact, a gender-neutral term.

Well, I don't go to "that place" so I wouldn't know.

I'm not sure how that even makes sense to begin with. The "r" had to come from somewhere. No matter what it actually means it has "Bro" in it, and that's what most people think of the term as.

No, not really.

Ice knows what he's talkin about, if you're on a pony site making posts with other ponies then you are part of the fandom :P

And there are various degrees to which somebody is a fan of something.

Again, a "Brony" or "Pegasis" is simply a fan of MLP: FiM.

There ARE various degrees to which somepony is a fan of something, but they're still fans. You said you like the show, which makes you a fan.

I've heard that theory, but it fails to explain where exactly the "r" came from.

I voted Filly, because to me brony refers to the group itself and not the individual. If I say "I'm a brony" in context to the show, though it's not plural (bronies) it's to say I'm part of that group. If we were to distinguish fans in gender of the show, I'd say males are colts and females are fillies. Using what knowledge I know about horse terminology.

Brony = FiM fan group

Colt = Male FiM fan

Filly = Female FiM fan

Brony is a gender neutral term, and it started off like that. Some troll must off sparked this argument ages ago, and it's still raging on. I think "brohoof" was before "brony" and it was interpreted like that. Brony is a gender neutral term, it started like that, I'm sure of that.

Oooh, Pegasis, I do like that better. =)

I do get where Klop is coming from though.

Bronette I think defeats the purpose of having a different term for females. It still includes the "bro" part. :lol:

I always thought "Equestria Girls"

Haha, I like this one too. Because well, we're kind of magical. ;)

I don't really care so much, I'm just a fan.

However, if I'm to choose, I for one prefer having a more gender neutral name than "brony." Even IF it is a combination of "/b/" and "pony" it still clearly contains the word "bro" so it will be easily misconceived. That would be my reason for not particularly liking that term. I wish we had a more gender neutral sounding name or otherwise a better term for female fans.

I'll take Pegasis(ter) or Filly, but the former makes me think of a pegasus. I like earth ponies and unicorns too! And then the latter refers to young ponies. Eh, yeah...

Like I said though, I don't really care for the terms. You can call me what you'd like to. In the end, I am just a fan who's not ashamed to be one.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure that you were a "/co/lt" if you posted in /co/ on 4chan and you were a "/b/rony" if you posted in /b/. and i'm guessing that later on "/co/lt" got forgotten or something, and now, a normal fan (regardless of gender) are called "bronies", At least I'm pretty sure, but not 100% since i've never been on 4chan in my life...
