Envy 6,162 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 *Facehoof* You honestly think you need to be obsessed to call youself something to be proud of? To me "Brony" and "Pegasis" are equivalent to "Fanboy" and "Fangirl". My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is just one cartoon I watch. I don't mean to undermine it as it is certainly one of the best cartoons started in many years. However, I'm not at that level of fandom. This. "Brony" actually comes from a fusion of "/b/" and "pony". "bro" + "pony" is apparently a widespread misconception. At least, that's what I heard. By that logic, it is, in fact, a gender-neutral term. Well, I don't go to "that place" so I wouldn't know. I'm not sure how that even makes sense to begin with. The "r" had to come from somewhere. No matter what it actually means it has "Bro" in it, and that's what most people think of the term as. Everything needs more woodwind!

Envy 6,162 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 (edited) You being here in the first place says differently No, not really. Ice knows what he's talkin about, if you're on a pony site making posts with other ponies then you are part of the fandom And there are various degrees to which somebody is a fan of something. 1Fluttershy 411 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 No, not really. And there are various degrees to which somebody is a fan of something. Again, a "Brony" or "Pegasis" is simply a fan of MLP: FiM. There ARE various degrees to which somepony is a fan of something, but they're still fans. You said you like the show, which makes you a fan.

Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 Well Brony was intended to represent only the male fans of the show but it's used more neutrally now. FIuttershy 49 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 I voted Filly, because to me brony refers to the group itself and not the individual. If I say "I'm a brony" in context to the show, though it's not plural (bronies) it's to say I'm part of that group. If we were to distinguish fans in gender of the show, I'd say males are colts and females are fillies. Using what knowledge I know about horse terminology. Brony = FiM fan group Colt = Male FiM fan Filly = Female FiM fan PSN: OtakuMakoto BEST PONIES: Fluttershy | Pinkie Pie | Derpy
Puppetmaster 0 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 Brony is a gender neutral term, and it started off like that. Some troll must off sparked this argument ages ago, and it's still raging on. I think "brohoof" was before "brony" and it was interpreted like that. Brony is a gender neutral term, it started like that, I'm sure of that. Cookie 28 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 Oooh, Pegasis, I do like that better. =) I do get where Klop is coming from though. Bronette I think defeats the purpose of having a different term for females. It still includes the "bro" part. I always thought "Equestria Girls" Haha, I like this one too. Because well, we're kind of magical.

Sugar Cube 4,843 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 (edited) I don't really care so much, I'm just a fan. However, if I'm to choose, I for one prefer having a more gender neutral name than "brony." Even IF it is a combination of "/b/" and "pony" it still clearly contains the word "bro" so it will be easily misconceived. That would be my reason for not particularly liking that term. I wish we had a more gender neutral sounding name or otherwise a better term for female fans. I'll take Pegasis(ter) or Filly, but the former makes me think of a pegasus. I like earth ponies and unicorns too! And then the latter refers to young ponies. Eh, yeah... Like I said though, I don't really care for the terms. You can call me what you'd like to. In the end, I am just a fan who's not ashamed to be one. Edited November 20, 2011 by Sugar Cube
Crispy 5,563 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 Brony works for both, I figure. I mean, people say mankind and mean both men and women. So I'm all like and just say brony. 1 GET IN THE PIT On 8/23/2012 at 1:54 AM, Djenty said: ON MLP 4UMS ERRYTHIN IS SRS

Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 I only refer to younger fans as fillies... Linguz 140 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 I meant the poll question. Also, it might sound better as "Female Fans" 'cause that's what they are.
Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 The few times I've seen girls in the fandom they usually don't think they are into the show enough to get a title LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Rainkyou 5 November 20, 2011 Share November 20, 2011 Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure that you were a "/co/lt" if you posted in /co/ on 4chan and you were a "/b/rony" if you posted in /b/. and i'm guessing that later on "/co/lt" got forgotten or something, and now, a normal fan (regardless of gender) are called "bronies", At least I'm pretty sure, but not 100% since i've never been on 4chan in my life... Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 November 21, 2011 Share November 21, 2011 Bronette is a silly choice as it's intended to be of female use yet has a clearly masculine word in it -_- LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Sageflare 277 November 21, 2011 Share November 21, 2011 I would call the female pony lovers pega sisters it seems a more appropriate name for them instead of brony.
Octavia2 83 November 21, 2011 Share November 21, 2011 I just call them bronies. Sure it's a bit more masculine, but pegasisters just sounds weird. I guess pegasis or filly would be ok, but I've gotten used to saying brony anyway.
