I've read them all, and for the most part, enjoy them. :) There's some things in the comics that I don't really like or agree with, but for the most part, I think they're very well-done. Especially the issues done by Katie Cook and Andy Price.

Despite purchasing tons of comics a while ago, I haven't read much of it lately, due to lack of time, as I prefer to spend time in the internet and playing videogames in what little free time I have during classes. I might read some of them once I finish this semester, not to mention to fill my life with ponies now that the mid season hiatus is on

I've read and still do read all of the current mane series comics and the Friends Forever series. Whilst I do think that both have peaked a while ago I'm happy to continue with them as there can still be a good issue here and there. The digital versions on Comixology are generally cheaper than the print versions, and Comixology has regular sales (about 3 a week or two) and MLP has come up in it numerous times (and will continue to do so) whether that be as an MLP sale or an IDW sale.

As a side note I'm actually working on a script for an MLP fan-fic comic of my own just now.

I buy all the episodes and comics (except equestria girls stuff), and the episodes have more CONTENT (in minutes and frames) per dollar than the comics, but I feel the comics have more VALUE per dollar.  the average comic is just stronger than the average episode.

I'm happy to pay more for less time, if it is more enjoyable.  That same philosophy is why I'm willing to drive an hour to get to a movie theater that provides a better experience.

I've read a few, and I wasn't a fan. Out of the comics I've read and what I've heard about, the characterization is generally awful, the plots are weak and they're comparable to the average Teen Titans Go episodes in my eyes (which isn't a compliment). I haven't read any of the Friends Forever stuff, although I've heard that's better, which is good considering the main series comics I've read left a sour taste in my mouth.

if they made the spike/celestia friends forever into an episode, it would have been one of the strongest episodes ever.

the characterization was far stronger than the average show, and maybe better then any episode ever.

I don't even like the CMC, but the CMC/discord friends forever was very nearly as strong.

But the main series isn't full of misses.

For instance, the 4-part Sombra series was heartbreaking and turned him into perhaps the most interesting villain in MLP.

From obsession with Chrstals to a full origin backstory was a massive improvement of the character.

Also, the 2-part Big Mac Gazebo arc did more for his characterization than the entire show has done so far.  the ability to read his thoughts is incredible for a quiet character!

Though now that I read your post, i'm thinking that maybe I like the one shots, be they main series, FIENDS forever, friends forever, or micro series, you just seem to get more out of them.

I dunno, the comics does have it's high points, but they still have their problems especially as of late. I mean as far as the main series go, early on IDW's Rainbow Dash was either really awful in almost any comic she was on or did jack shit, and she didn't really get a good appearance until Friends Forever #6 and then Rarity who, unlike Dash started off really strong has gotten pretty bad in the newer comics, and don't even get me started on Twilight in the Western. Not to mention, a lot of comics in the main series are too controversial for me to want to see them as episodes. There are some great ones like Rainbow Dash's Bad Day or Art of the Gazeebo Repair that could work for an episode(the latter considering we don't get much Big Mac), but I dunno, a lot of them I don't think would sit well with fans. Ditto the Micro series, Unless it was Rariy, Pinkie, CMC or Celestia, none of them would make for good episodes, especially the meme and reference nightmare that was the Dash Micro. It's great for characters the show rarely if ever experiment on like Celestia or Big Mac, but often times I don't feel it doesn't add much to the main cast, or even hurt them in some cases

Now the Friends Forever series, that is one I really wish got some episodes, lots of great character interaction with pairs you would rarely see either because one rarely shows up or because not many people thought about it, like Rainbow+Trixie, Twilight+Big Mac, AJ+Mayor Mare. Lots of insight on characters we should get to see more of but never do, like Celestia or Spitfire(FF12 is still her best appearance yet, she was flawed but not unlikable like show has an unfortunate tendancy of doing). Hell, even if the story isn't that great or has tons of flaws, a lot of the time the character interaction is just so great(For as many asspulls the TwiDash FF did, I can forgive it because Twilight and Rainbow worked fantastically together). That said, there are still some duds want the FF series to avoid in the future, like focusing too much on OCs or if Granny Smith is in it :P

I used to be an avid reader of the comics. I remember picking up issue #1 when it first came out in 2012 and being so excited to see the Chrysalis story unfold! It was such a big deal back then ! I stopped reading around issue #29 (Cheerilee's wrestling sister I think) and Friends Forever #15 (AJ + Mayor Mare). I have read all 10 Micro issues and the Annual Specials however. I guess over time I just slowly lost interest reading the comics.

I used to turn to the comics for more world-building during MLP's earlier seasons. But now that the show has been on the air for nearly 6 years and dramatically expanded the world and cast of characters, I see no empty void that needs to be filled. Maybe i'll pick it up again and catch up when I have some more free time. Until then, i'm perfectly content on skipping the comics  :rarity:.

Is there anywhere I could find them?

You can find them in most comic shops.

I have read a few, and I really like them. They have both the slice of life angle and the adventure stories, handily in two different lines so you can pick which you prefer. Me? I love the adventure comics as, while I wouldn't call them grimdark, they do go to places and deal with forces and topics the show hasn't. (Not that it couldn't, just simply hasn't.)

I would certainly recommend reading the comics! Of course not everyone will agree upon what episodes are good or not, or which characters are fun to read about. But to me, and maybe others born in the 80's or earlier, it's a special feeling to hold a physical copy of a comic book in your hands. Late at night. Under a warm light source. Gives (me) a feeling of being, there, kind of.

If you think the single issues are expensive, try the collections, a bit more bang for your buck. They are called:

Pony Tales 1-2 (Micro-series issues 1-10)

Friendship is magic Omnibus 1-3 (issues 1-37)
Friends forever volume 1-6 (issues 1-24)
