Wrong. If I was "bitching and moaning," then I'd be like Trump whining about Starbucks's so-called "War on Christmas." I'm criticizing. I'm complaining. I'm angry. Our anger is completely valid, because there are serious implications in their actions and inaction in response to heated criticism. Swiping our anger at CN UK aside as "bitching and moaning" is an assumption.

Yeah I have to admit often telling people they are "bitching and moaning" is just a dismissal of an otherwise perfectly valid argument. It's the age old tactic of making the point seem less valued so that no one will listen.

You're taking contrived PR bullshit at face value.

Yup! Always assume that businesses will make statements to save face because reputation = profits. So anything to save reputation when a fuck up happens is going to be done to protect the profits. Protecting profits is always a businesses top priority and a lot of the time they will tell any old bullshit to do so. It's just the nature of business.

Not all oppression is based on pure evil. A lot of it is based on ignorance.

Correct! Oppression is caused by either deliberate attempts to keep people down, being ignorant to how oppressive what you're doing really is, or inaction when you observe it happening. There's an old saying that for evil to prevail all it takes is for good men to do nothing.

Now, will they do it again? Will CN UK air episodes like We Need to Talk uncensored next time? We don't know. Hopefully, this outrage keeps the entire company — namely CN UK — in check so it never happens again.

Exactly! It's our job as viewers to tell the networks what we want to see and when they are doing something wrong. If we don't, they will just do whatever fancies them.

Isn't the UK one of those big social justice-y countries? Why, after everything else, does cartoon lesbians cross the line for them?

Wait...

We do feel that the slightly edited version is more comfortable for local kids and their parents.

It's not about offending people is it? What group of people would be offended by strong, independent women in a lesbian relationship? I would immediately jump to Christians, but no one really listens to them anymore. In Europe at least.

What's going on with SU in the Middle East is irrelevant here, and CN US didn't censor this scene for themselves or other western nations. CN UK chose to censor it while CN US left all of We Need to Talk intact.

You're taking contrived PR bullshit at face value. That statement is to cover its stalk in case it receives future accusations.

Not all oppression is based on pure evil. A lot of it is based on ignorance. Clearly, CN UK was very ignorant when they censored it out of a hurtful belief. Yet, rather than admit wrongdoing, they used the "localization" copout and lied to the public. Homophobia based on ignorance is still homophobia, and it still hurts. Their PR statement is an admission of homophobia regardless of intent.

I don't understand why you keep bringing me back to this thread with quotes because I'm honestly getting tired of this argument and its starting to stress me out and give me panic attacks, so I would appreciate it if you would not quote me to this thread anymore.

What the hell are "local kids" anyway? The people who live next door to the executives? The only people I could see having a problem with the scene is certain minority religions but they're a minority and don't seem to complain much about these things.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

That's what I want to know.

This arguement has gone on for a long while, anyone else think it should be moved to the debate section of the forums?

That edit was completely and totally pointless and ironically made what they did seem considerably dirtier than what it actually was. It is obvious what is happening even in the edited version, they only edited out a few measly seconds and left almost everything else in. If I was a young child watching the original version I would come to the conclusion that the dance was either necessary for the fusion to take place, was done to put on a sort of show for the music video or both. There is nothing inappropriate going on in this scene, at all I don't even see any lesbian undertones to it aside from two girls dancing which isn't that big of a deal considering the context of the scene being that they were filming a music video.

Hello, SuperBrony here... I just started watching Steven Universe. So I get why this topic was posted... However, in viewing a few episodes. I noticed a few things: How come nobody over in UK had anything to say that when the gems perform a fusion they kinda dance suggestively? I noticed Amethyst was very serpentine. Pearl's dance was more of what you'd see in ballet recitals and Garnet shakes it pretty good too. Point is if they had such a field day over that scene with Pearl and Rose why not the whole fusion dance scenes?

Don't get me started on the episode where Steven and Connie accidentally do a fusion and become like a woman, they looked mostly female with traits of Steven a boy. They attracted both boys and girls too? Was that not odd? They were neither dude nor entirely female. Did UK not have issue with that?! A boy merging with a girl is pretty scandalous if you think about it... Not to me though I've no quarrel with the programming of our tv shows. Also remember that episode where they guys and Amethyst are cleaning out Greg's Shed and she makes a "junk" joke... I was like that was hilarious. Doubt kids will get it though. I mean innuendos.

Look, I'm all for open mindedness but it seems like UK should really just skip on Steven Universe if they feel they can just pick and choose what they think might upset for the children (which I'm sure things will probably just go over their heads) but the paranoid censors. I've finished watching all I could get up to on Hulu Plus with the "season 1" ending at Joy Ride. Season 1 is a long ass season. I think it's closed and started into season 2 I'd say it was around after they had that battle and escaped the spaceship. The theme song is kinda off to me. All the girls sing differently and it takes you out of it, sounds like they forgot their lines and just went with it. So I mostly skip the theme.

Also... What is it about little boy acting that little boys have to be obnoxious and annoying? Ever heard of indoor voice kid? Poor gems are so patient to put up with him I tell you. Are they going to reveal the pink male lion is Rose? I mean they're both pink and Rose's things are "stored" in the lion's mane dimension. The lion is watchful and protective at times. So uh... Why not a lioness? If she is the lion and that is the case? What's with "weird Saiyan Soldier" dude in the invasion episode? He sounds like he's got some woman in him. I don't get the gender thoughts of these guys?

I know some of you might be ahead of me in episodes. I know I just asked something about the show that it has or might not be revealed but however please no spoilers :)
