If the mane six weren't ponies, what types of animals do you think they would be? This could be animals specifically found in Equestria or ones from our world.

Here's what I think, personally-

Twilight- Owl

Rainbow Dash- Cheetah

Pinkie Pie- Bunny

Rarity- Cat

Applejack- Dog

Fluttershy- Mouse

So, what animals do YOU think they'd be?

You can name other ponies in your lists too, if you'd like. :)

Rarity - Cat and AJ - Dog are ones I can get behind, I think Fluttershy would be better suited as a bunny rather than Pinkie though(who should be a monkey).

Rainbow Dash is one I have trouble with, she loves both flying and speed, so I can't see a cheetah working. I think a falcon could be a good alternative....CAPTAIN FALCON

Twilight I have no idea though. I'd probably put her as a snake out of bias though

Twilight: a Corvid bird such as a Raven, Crow, or Magpie as they're considered among the most intelligent birds in the animal kingdom. This would compliment her intellect, curiosity, and her ability of flight. An African Grey Parrot would make a nice alternative.

Rainbow Dash: Peregrine Falcon as she loves flying and being fast and no bird is faster than a Peregrine Falcon swoop dive.

Pinkie Pie: Spider Monkey as they're very hyper and energetic and she would love using her tail as a fifth limb.

Applejack: Shetland Sheepdog. A hardworking farm dog. This dog would best suit her tastes and attitude on the farm.

Fluttershy: White Cotton tail Deer. A pretty and shy creature that tries to stick as close to the wilds of nature as possible. A perfect match for the introvert.

Rarity: Ragdoll Cat: An intelligent, humorous, sweet, and pretty cat that has all the stuff you want to have in a cat. This matches the more varied Rarity very well.

Twilight would indeed probably be an Owl, sharp, "wise" and since owls often are linked to literature, I think it suits her.

Fluttershy would be a butterfly.... Because they are fragile and quiet, yet beautiful.

Pinkie Pie would be a Squirrel or a spider monkey, as the others mentioned. The energetic energy in both animals makes a perfect fit for Pinkie. And the way Squirrels love to stock up on nuts, Pinkie likes to stock up on baking goods and party accessories, etc.

Applejack would definitely be a dog indeed, the loyalty really sits in her. Any dog would probably do, but I'd rather like to see her as a bigger dog with much strength.

Rainbow Dash, I have no idea actually... It just doesn't come to me. Something quick and flying I suppose. An eagle, a falcon? Perhaps even a wasp, would do for her.

Rarity, I can see as some elegant animal. Not a cat, really, it just doesn't speak to me, seeing her as a cat. I can see it, but it doesn't feel right. I'd say she's more of a bird as well. Perhaps a white peacock, a white and pure dove or a beautiful swan. Something like that would feel more like the Rarity I know of.

I made an aquatic set:

TS: Octopus (can solve puzzles, happy to be solo)
Ra: Lion fish (elegant and graceful...but not safe)
PP: Dolphin (gotta be something playful)
AJ: Sea Turtle (reliable and persistent)
RD: Flying Fish (gotta be fast, gotta be unique, you know I gotta fly)
FS: Otter (gotta be something cute that pays very close attention to their young)

For land based:

TS: Owl (I tried so hard to think of something different, but it was really hard to beat that)
Ra: Bird of Paradise (elegant and fastidious)
PP: Puppy (playfulness is still the driving factor)
AJ: Mule (surprisingly strong, reliable and stubborn)
RD: Arctic Turn (If there is a single bird that emulates rainbow better than this acrobat, I'm not aware of it)
FS: Panda (cute and no natural defenses against a crisis)

Twilight: ...An African Grey Parrot would make a nice alternative.

Brilliant!  can I change my answer?
