Is Cadance short?

Alicorns usually tower over Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies, but Shining Armor has been shown to be noticeably taller than his wife, who is an adult Alicorn. So is Cadance just short?

Maybe. But the thing is that she isn't a naturally born alicorn like Celestia and Luna.

She was originally a pegasus who became an alicorn which was revealed in Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell.

But even that, this isn't even the first case of a regular pony being taller than an alicorn.

Troubleshoes form Apppleloosa's Most Wanted is gigantic.  He is at least as tall as Princess Celestia if not taller.

Also, Luna is a young pure-Alicorn, so yeah, Alicorns come taller I guess?

Well, since there are only four Alicorns, and at least two of them are... noticeably shorter than some Earth Ponies (coughcoughShiningArmorandBigMaccough), I wouldn't say that Alicorns "usually" tower over the ponies. Maybe Celestia is just awkwardly tall, but I don't think Cadence is short.

Unfortunately we know next to nothing about alicorns. We don't know if Cadance or Twilight are immortal or hell even Flurry Heart. It could just be it takes time for them to grow to such a height, be it with age or power(Or a mixture of both). We don't even know what Luna's power is in comparison to Celestia(Only Nightmare Moon's, and she was as tall as Celestia). Speaking of which how long has Cadance been an alicorn? I have yet to read the particular comic which states she was previously a pegasus. Shining armor is also a very powerful male unicorn so that could explain his height as well.

I could swear that Cadance even had exactly the same size as Luna, when the three peincesses stood in a row in an older episode.

 

Gilda in her first story was much bigger than Fluttershy and the others, which made her bigger than the male griffin Gustave.

Though, in season 5 she is as tall as Pinkie while standing before her.

 

In a promo picture freakin BABS Seed is not bigger than the Cmc s 0_0

 

This show has some problems with body heights.

That seems to be the alicorn height scale: Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Twilight. While Twilight is not as old as cadence, will she grow as tall as at least her then? I assume yes, but still. I am thinking Celestia and Luna are as tall as that due to....maybe their own power? Not meaning they make themselves grow but their size is indicative of their power levels. They're OVER 9 nope. Since Cadence is most likely not even close to the sisters in power, this could explain. Or Alicorns just have varying sizes too in general. We haven't seen enough of them to know.

Lol, I know that. Most stuff that is told as canon is fan made anyways. Until the episodes show otherwise, it isn't untrue or impossible (as with anything we say). I could say that in Equestria's area, there was a massive war a long time ago, before Celestia even... And you can't say that's untrue. :3

But yeah, most likely, she had her horn, plus I was actually kidding.

I don't think she's short, really. She wasn't born an alicorn, if Twilight and the Crystal Heart Spell is to be believed, so she's in the same boat as Twilight. I don't know if she'll get any bigger (or if Twilight will get bigger, for that matter) or if her lifespan has been extended. IIRC I read somewhere that Twilight will not outlive her friends, implying that her lifespan hasn't changed. Celestia and Luna aren't immortal either, though, just long-lived.

In part, I just think Shining Armor is just big, and I´d imagine Cadance to be shorter if not were for her being ascended. She´s still the second shortest of the alicorns, at least post Magical Mystery Cure, as she was the same size as Luna, but subsequent chapters Luna was shown as bigger

@@ggg-2, to me Cadance is as tall as Luna and Shining is just bulkier, like Big Mac. Celestia is just tall.

 

I'm pretty sure that Fleur de Lis (I refuse to call her Fleur Dis Lee) and Sassy Saddles are "Luna sized" too.

I think Cadance and Twilight are shorter then Celestia and Luna because their younger than Celestia and Luna. Maybe with age comes height?

As Spartan said, it's partially their age = size.  My head canon is that for Alicorns, size = power.  This is why Nightmare Moon shrank when blasted by the Elements of Harmony (episode 2).  Luna has regained some of her power & some of her size. Cadance is smaller because she is less powerful

Was babs actually bigger than the CMC initially? I'm not so sure on that  :diamondtiara:

 

Maybe the heights indicate how long they've been an Alicorn? Luna was Sealed on the moon as Nightmare Moon for a thousand years so its not out of the realm of possibility that she didn't age, and Twilights been getting taller since becoming an alicorn.

@@ggg-2, here's the height chart that I made a while back, from what I found out Luna was as tall as Celestia in her 2nd appearance in the episode Nightmare Night. Then she was as tall as Cadence in the next appearance. Making Sombra and Celestia the tallest.

I'm pretty sure Cadance is taller than most other mares because

1) She's an alicorn and

2) She became an alicorn at an earlier age than Twilight.

 

Because she ascended earlier this allowed more time for the alicorn magic to influence her growth. On that note I don't believe Twilight will grow much since she's practically matured already.

I subscribe to the height=power level theory. After all, Twilight grew slightly when she was ascended, both her height and her horn. Not to mention she gained the more pronounced breast and overall silhouette that Alicorns tend to have. Though it's rare, it's not impossible for a pony/horse to be as tall/taller than an Alicorn. Fleur de Lis is the exact same size as Luna ((Since they share the same body model)), Sassy Saddles may very well be as tall as Luna as well, the delegates from Saddle Arabia are the same size as Celestia and Troubleshoes may be even taller than her. As for Cadance, she's just slightly shorter than Luna. I attribute that to age since we don't know how old Cadance is in comparison to Twilight, Celestia or Luna.
