The impact this film could have will be unreal if it becomes a hit

To be honest I think our expectations should be measured. I liken this to the Powerpuff Girls theatrical film from a few years back. IIRC, it actually did fairly well and was complimented fairly well on by movie critics; even receiving a nomination for best animated film at the Oscars. However it's impact overall wasn't that big; IIRC, and we should expect much more with the MLP flick.

Anything is possible; of course.

That sounds like an absolutely fantastical claim

Honestly I think you should just keep your expectations reasonable and in check. Expecting it to be some sort of cinematic animation revolution is just setting you up for disappointment

IMHO, 3D CGI are the craze now and expecting a 2D animated feature film to rival those other major studios seems like a far fetch.

A success it may, but not a game changer in the industry.

I think it's going to be great, I really like what they've been doing with the series and I am very optimistic about the film as well. That said, I highly doubt it's going to be revolutionary and have such a massive impact on the films industry.

I think it's better not to have such extremely high expectations of it, since that's probably going to lead to disappointment. :adorkable:

pony's please calm down, if you hype this movie so much you will be dissapointed. Yes I believe in the writers that they can bring us something good but it doesnt have to mean that everything will change or that this movie will be as higly regard as to say the godfather.

Correct if me if I wrong, but maybe we (or atleast me :D) are hoping that by atleast having an MLP:FIM movie on the big screen will show others how much the show has changed for the better, and will show why we as a fandom have fallen in love with the series. Maybe that's the drive we have for the movie, or atleast I know I do.

I very much doubt the MLP is going to shake up the landscape much, more than likely it's going to be a limited release and probably won't attract large numbers of people who don't already watch the cartoon, excepting possibly those parents who take their children to see the film.

There is a huge trend on these forums of people expecting the film to be a dark, edgy blockbuster that is going to catapult MLP firmly into the mainstream and attract a whole new audience.  I think a certain management of expectations is required.

It probably won't anyway. Considering how much the industry has already invested in making 3D animated movies, changing gears would require lots of investment, and as long as 3D animation remains a hit I don't see the industry taking any sort of risky venture by creating more 2D films.

The movie I hope will be good but I don't keep my hopes too high. I just hope that it might help validate our fandom, I don't want it to be violent or dark necessarily, but just to show that the fandoms support has taken the brand so far.

Oh god, leave the church in the village. It will be nice, but it's not going to revolutionize 2D Animation.

Be glad that we have an MLP movie in the first place.

I just hope is great and it's the best that came from G4 horses, but that's about it. I dunno why we are expecting or favorite show to try to jump it's boundaries

It's not likely it will become a big hit, Hasbro films have a history of not doing so hot. TV cartoon movies have a precedence for being bland and Studio Ghibli and anime still does well enough that 2D animation isnt going to keel over just yet.

I'm pretty sure this movie isn't going to do that good. Like, it'll make its budget back, but its not going to be a Smash hit like Zootopia or even a blockbuster like the TMNT movie was.

This is a TERRIBLE time to be launching the movie (MLP is downturning in sales and ratings are tanking, and we have over a year to go before the movie hits, meaning even more interest will be lost); Season 4 was the zenith of the show's popularity and we're having the movie come out 3 years after that when its near its end.

As such, alot of the target audience will have moved on, and the brony fandom has been slowly shrinking ever since S3. It's just not in the cards; the name "My little pony" has such a huge stigma about it that you're not going to bring in Non-fans to the movie, and its losing steam with those that do care about it.
