If I could afford it I would go for vinyl, there are some rare songs that can only be purchased on that format, due to them never having a release on an alternative like cassette or CD.

Not having a high income myself, I have to use money wisely, and my best investment was CD given it is a modern format and has way more music available. It's different for everyone though, not the availability part, I mean preference, vinyl has a unique appeal to music lovers. Sonic Adventure soundtrack some time ago got released on vinyl IIRC, I see the appeal of that as well, Jun Sunoue and his team worked well on music for the video game that transitioned the Blue Blur from 2D to 3D. With a good sound system though, CD does sound better, but it depends on the quality of the recording.

Yeah the cost of a good vinyl player in itself is prohibitively expensive, if I did end up finding the money for one it'd have to be 'classics' (to me at least lol) getting bought. I do otherwise buy CDs, I loooove the art and booklets and having the lyrics correctly given to follow is very nice.

Vinyl is one thing - some people actually still collect casette tapes LOL, and some bands still release them to this day even as a limited orders thing... I respect it as they are satisfying to use but I'm not sure I'd do that hahah

This version of Praga Khan's song Echoes, an ominous sounding beat is one vinyl I would get if I had a turntable, I like techno and lots of different techno tracks by various artists were released on this format. Unfortunately it's simply too expensive for me, even after getting a good vinyl player like one of the high end Audio Technica ones, the vinyl itself is probably expensive.

  • 2 months later...

I used to with ITunes way back in the day, now I'm just about glued to Spotify Premium, to where I'll never leave it anytime soon.

Yes, I buy CDs, records, reel to reel tapes and cassettes. The reel to reel tapes I buy are usually ones recorded by the previous owner, not an official release (as far as I know, there were almost no official R2R releases in the USSR). I also download some music from torrents, youtube or other places, sometimes I record a concert from TV (to a VHS tape or to my file server, depending on the source). Sometimes I buy a cassette of the music I have downloaded if I can find it.

If I buy a brand new record, I usually record it to a R2R tape on the first or second tme I play it, so that I then can play the tape and not wear out my record. If I buy a used record, I usually do not bother with that, unless I think I will want to play it a lot.

No. I just listen to it on YouTube. Through YouTube or Musi which uses YouTube.

I definitely try to. ( →ᴥ← ) I'm part of many alternative scenes and it's good to support artists by purchasing their works

I don't have a working cd player yet unfortunately, so I am waiting to get that working. After that I'll for sure be buying more physical music :sweetie-music:

It's not a regular thing that I do, but if I really like an album, I'll buy the CD online or from charity shops.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

If I can listen to it for free to see if I'll like it, I'll do that,  and if in fact I do like it, I'll buy it.
