Do you think you could bond with Bible believing Bronies?

I probably would if we also had something else in common or got along well. I'm not that good with friends and befriending someone doesn't happen just like that, but I wouldn't really mind if someone of my friends was religious. Talking about religion isn't bad either, I do admit that sometimes I do it too.

There still are some exceptions though - if they couldn't handle that I'm gay, I wouldn't get along with that person. I really don't want to be friends with someone who believes I'm going to hell just because I'm not straight.

I would care to be honest. A friend is a friend. I don't know why but it seems that people who bring up quotes from the bible in everyday discussion....give me the impression that they are wise, and personally I don't mind that.

Honestly, I don't really see how people can be THAT obsessed with religion to where they relate it to virtually everything in their lives. That would be a very unfulfilled life to me, you're basically not doing anything that wasn't told to be done by God or isn't written in the bible, and everything you do has to be pre-approved by God. If I recall God actually doesn't want people living in that much obsession with him, he wanted people to live their lives. I mean then again God probably wants nothing because he doesn't really exist...

Either way, I just don't think I could be comfortable with someone who throws so much of their life away at something like that and tries to get me to do the same.

You know what would be a more interesting question? If the believers would like to befriend me, eventhough i have a fascination with snakes and that my chinese zodiac is also the snake.   As far as i know, the snake is closely linked to the devil and the snake is the reason, that Adam and Eve where thrown out of the Garden of Eden.

And? Snakes are considered sacred in sects of Hinduism and have their place in Chinese traditional practices as you said. I love all animals and snakes are no different. You'd have to be pretty petty to equate people who like snakes with evil. (Plus, I'm of the opinion that the snake was sent by God so that humanity could advance, but that's besides the point.)

Ouch dude. I actually agreed with you up to here. You're right, obsession with anything is bad. You don't see me saying "God definitely exists" because honestly He may not. I only bring this up because that alone was the only thing keeping me from brohoofing your post.

Doesn't bother this pro-LGBT Christian. :)

Well you're free to disagree. I'm okay with that. I have no issues with you not sharing my thoughts.

Well I'm not in it for a popularity contest. I say what I think and I try not to pull punches. People are free to disagree, but I'd rather live truthfully and say how I actually feel in a public setting than pretend I don't find the idea of believing in a being I believe to be fictional is "totally cool" when I think it's ridiculous. If that earns me no popularity points, oh well. I wasn't that popular to begin with.

You  believe in something, I believe that what you believe in is fictional. I am not actively trying to stop you from believing in it though. Just don't shove it down my throat or try to pass laws with it and we're cool.

I'm friends with people whom believe in a nebulous higher power. They have well thought out reasons why they think there could be such a possibility and they are fun people to debate with. However people who buy into the literal interpretation of scripture and I are going to but heads if we talk religion. That thing not only has caused a ton of pain, death, misery, and near genocidal conflicts, it also goes against actual scientific evidence contradicting what its saying.

Nor do I. I'm not saying you must believe just voicing a problem I had with your post that I otherwise agreed with, that I did share your thoughts.

It's not a question of popularity, it's a question of friendship. I would like to be anypony's friend if I could and I don't see faith or lack thereof as an obstacle to that, at least on my end.

I know that they are. But this is about the bible and the bible dosen't really speak nicely of the snake. They are always depicted as loathsome creatures, that are linked with poison, craftiness and are always linked with evil in many passages.

Okay everypony! You getting Christians all wrong. Just because we may throw a Scripture or two at someone doesn't mean we are shoving it down their throats. In fact, that's the opposite of what we do. Normally, Christians will not say much about their religion, but when they do ( If they are a true Christian) they do it in the best, loving manner they can. When they are telling others about Christ or sharing a few Scriptures, it is only because they are trying to save another soul and prevent them from having to enter the fiery gates of Hell. Heck, some people tease me for being a musician and also a Christian. This was because Lucifer aka Satan aka the Devil used to be an angel of music. His music could control the feelings of the other angels and he eventually began to believe he could overrun God and eventually got cast into Hell as Satan. I told them about how we Christians take a humorous side on this. We use music as a tool to worship God at the same time making Satan hate us all! But the true question isn't would bronies accept Christians. It is would bronies be willing to accept that Christians are just trying to help.

Sorry, approached from a decidedly "cosmopolitan Christian" angle.

As I said, you'd have to be a pretty petty person Chrisitan or otherwise, to see someone's affinity for what you symbolically associate with evil as indicative of the person's moral fiber. To flip the dynamic. Like seeing someone where a cross and assuming them unilaterally to be zealous, judgmental, fundamentalist, etc.

Plus, as I said, I love animals, snakes included. Doesn't make me less Christian, able to talk snakes with other people, or thinking a mere predator acting on instinct is somehow evil.

This is not the place for this, my friend, I say that as one of your peers in faith.

Don't respond to Key and turn this into a debate. By all means take it to a PM if you wish.

If you throw a Scripture to me without my consent then you're shoveling it down my throat. How would you like it if I would throw some of the verses of the Poetic Edda your way?

When they are telling others about Christ or sharing a few Scriptures, it is only because they are trying to save another soul and prevent them from having to enter the fiery gates of Hell.

I get that. However perhaps you should only help those who wants your help. You don't see me trying to save you from the kingdom of Hell.

Oh I'm delighted, I really wish more people would think like you. Not meaning just Christians but all kinds of people.

I also sometimes notice that I'm pretty much generalizing stuff when I'm talking about religious people and I'm deeply sorry about that.

Oh no worries. You are not the only one who generalizes after all. I don't like it, and think humanity as a whole would be better off if we all treated each other on a case by case basis, but it would be hypocritical of me to hold that against you since that too would be a generalizing assumption.

Plus your post didn't seem very hostile in the first place. I just thought I would make my stance on the LGBT community clear as a straight ally who is so BECAUSE he was raised Chrisian. (You can thank my mother.)

A debate is the opposite of what I want. But when there are lost souls involved I have to at least try.

For future reference to anyone else. This guy does not represent me or what I believe at least in this matter.

"You don't have to be Christian, to be like Christ." Was one of the FIRST lessons I learned.

First and foremost - RESPECT

You both have to be respectful to the other person. If we are strictly talking about a non religious person being friends with a religious person and sharing a bond over ponies then the biggest thing you have to do is respect the boundaries that you both have. It is one thing to say "Man, Pinkie Pie really reminds me of a story in Luke chapter 4."

You have to remember, being able to communicate your feelings on the subject matter is more important than having two different religious views. If your non religious friend is uncomfortable with the fact that you want to recite scripture after every pony related topic, then you need to respect them enough to cool it and maybe talk about it in a different way.

I'm Christian, and I am a pegasister, I won't deny either of those facts, but I will not shove either one of them down other people's throats. If they want to talk about it with me, cool, let's talk. If not, I am not going to view you any different. We are friends either way. Same thing should hopefully go for those who are of different religion or no religion at all.

That's right.. I quoted myself.

-R.E.S.P.E.C.T.  And the willingness to want to understand the other person. You don't have to conform in order to be friends, but to understand them, yea.

What if I told you that I have already found the help I need in the tales of the Aesir and Vanir?

I don't know about him but would tell you I'm glad you have found faith and hope it inspires you to good action.

I was referring to Helheim. It is not to late to grab a sword and join the gods in Valhalla.

I might get this answer in that link you sent me, but wouldn't that mean that anyone who basically didn't serve in the military is unworthy of Valhalla?

Vanir is actually not a person. It's a group of gods like the Aesir.

I . . . know that. When I said "him" I was talking about ethritt. As in. "I don't know what HE would say to what you said, but I would say I'm glad you found faith in a group of gods, the Aesir AND the Vanir." Really, you can assume a baseline knowledge of the Aesir and their surrounding theology with me.

Well, that's true. However Helheim is not that bad actually (depending on what you believe in). Personally I see Valhalla as the pay for joining the army of the gods.

I'm sorry, my brain simply stopped working. It is quite hard to keep a discussion going when you're still learning the language.

I didn't mean to offend you. It's just that most people don't know that there's two groups of gods and I foolishly believed that you were one of them. You have my deepest apology.

I suppose so. By descriptions, Helheim just seems kind of "eh, could be worse." Unless you dislike cold, than it IS a terrible punishment.

No worries about it, I wasn't offended at all. Just that I'm actually intimately familiar with the subject and want to make that clear to someone who holds the Aesir and company as their actual source of faith. It's my sign of respect to your beliefs.

This is a friendly reminder to one and all before this goes too far: this topic is not a debate about the foundations of religion, witchcraft, or anything of the sort. Stick with the point of the so that this topic can remain open.

Thank you.

Guys, come on, keep the posts on topic. Don't turn this into yet another religious debate.

@@EthRitt @@Key Sharkz, if you have nothing more to add to this thread, drop it. This is not the place.

I don't see how being a Christian would make it any more difficult to discuss the fandom with them. If that were the case I might as well throw every other belief system in there as well. It's entirely possible to have a normal and honestly interesting discussion with them over many things, even if you don't necessarily share the same faith. I've had plenty of personal experiences to prove as such.

EDIT: Alright guys, the thread is back open. Let's keep the discussions on topic and make use of the Report button if you feel something is going awry. :)

If you found someone who liked My Little Pony, but was a Bible believer, would you befriend them?

Sure, why not? Is there something about believing in the Bible that would be a problem?

Do you think you would be accepting if they wanted to bond over both, and excitedly wanted to bring scriptures from the Bible that they saw related to pony characters, to your attention?

Yeah... I guess, but what would be the point? That's like using references from a movie I've never seen.
