The EQG4 hardcover book now has some artwork on amazon. The first thing that should stand out is this interesting character in the background.

Is it a villain or an ally?

I think that's going to be Gloriosa's "True" form.

Based on how the synopsis we have says a big part of it is Twilight worrying that she's a monster due to midnight sparkle, I figure they'll have Gloriosa be a paralell to twilight in everyone viewing her as a monster due to her magic.

I think we're going to get another BS "no real villain" Plot like FG with a character, at worst, just being out of control of their powers at the end until they're calmed down (Most probably gloriosa), which would synch up well with the information we have about twilight having to confront the "midnight sparkle" inside her with help from Sunset, as that would give a reason for twilight and Sunset to relate to and talk down Gloriosa.

Adding onto this, look at the Dryad's expression: That's not evil. its not even Angry. Its kind of blank or possibly confused. I don't think she's a "villain" in the same way that Twilight wasn't a "Villain" In Friendship games.

She actually doesn't look very evil. Maybe she might just be a spirit

Well given how Gloriosa is supposed to have some kind of secret, I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being her true from.

Whether or not she ends up being evil is a different story.

I would like to see another Equestrian magical villain in the movies, but at the same time due to the season 5 finale I am always afraid of getting a FIM quality villain reformation.

So I kind of think it would be better to not have a villain than even have the slightest risk that something like this might happen.

Well, her name's Gaia Everfree and i just saw her snarling, pissed off and showing up a mouth full of sharp teeth in the trailer, while showing some destructive nature powers. Either she'll be an outright villain, or an antihero who just wants humans to leave the forest alone but her methods aren't quite friendly and the Humane Seven will help her see the error of her ways. Yeah, bussiness as usual.

I'm personally thinking its going to be the crystal themselves that were shown in that cave that will be the "True" villain.

Notice how Gaia has red gems all over her face when she's evil, but lacks them in the book image or how her color scheme looks noticeably different in the campfire story about her and when she shows up covered in gems.

I'm betting that the Gems in that cave are either like the alicorn amulet and Corrupting magical objects that amplify magic OR an entity that was shattered into pieces and possesses others via the crystals.

So Gaia might not be evil initially but would be turned evil by the crystals that we see: it would ALSO make the line about gaia "Infecting" twilight's friends make sense if the gems are an evil corruptive force that are the true villains, since a plant being, by itself, doesn't make much sense to be a being that infects/corrupts others, but evil magical crystals would fit that line completely.

That is a well thought out idea. I like the concept of a corrupted soul instead of the villains EqG has given us.

Considering how it doesn't show her face--even using the earlier clip from the campfire story at one point in what looks like a scene where they saw her--I think they've got cards they ain't showing...

How do you think WE feel?!

My big fear in that situation would be that the climax would be the other 5 sans twilight and sunset being possessed alongside gaia so twilight and sunset can save the day alone by doing something to burn the corruption out of them and Gaia. Ala the ending of Friendship games revolving around those two. (the finale song is "friendship ignite" and that seems like something that would be up sunset's alley thematically given her fire/phoenix motif.)

(I think they're going to get those crystal wings like their toys in the climax to solve things as a duo: as to why RD is in the crystal wings toyline as well, I'm pretty sure hasbro is heavily hesitant to have a singular deluxe toyline again after FG and midnight sparkle flopped, so probably demanded at least one more in the crystal wings and they grabbed RD for it, but she probably will not get any special crystal wings during the movie)
