general media Surprising death scenes in children's media(WARNING SPOILERS)

Title says it all, even children's media often has death scenes, but there are some that just surprise you with how graphic they are and how they managed to get that G rating on some occasions.

WARNING, THIS THREAD WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS

Clayton's death from Tarzan is always a surprising one. Even without seeing his actual body, just seeing the shadow hanging makes for some good nightmare fuel

The original Transformers movie also had some surprisingly graphic deaths, despite them being robots, but Prowl's in particular always stuck with me, just seeing his eyes glow and smoke coming out of his mouth is definitely disturbing. I can't imagine how I would've reacted if I was a 7-year old fan when this movie came out

A more recent example is some of the deaths in Legend of Korra. Even if it was for an older audience, I'm still surprised Nick let most of these happen, most notably P'li's death and Tarrlock and Amon's double suicide

And then of course there's Raider's melting Nazi scene, which I can't post here for obvious reasons

Even though you did mention Suyin metalbending her breastplate over P'li's head just as the later was about to fire a blast, causing her head to explode, that is only one of the many horrifying villain deaths in the Legend of Korra.

Heck there are at least 3 more from book 3 alone.

Some of which include another attempted murder suicide by Gazan (it was only half way successful) and we have Mako one of the main good guys use lightningbending in order to electrocute Ming Hua when she was surrounded by a crap ton of water.

Especially this scene:

Even though it was stated that Korra was taken of the air due to low ratings (most of them are Nick's fault in the first place), I wouldn't be surprised if it was made online only because the network didn't want to air this on television.

It says a lot when during the finale, I flat out expected Korra to snap Zaheer's neck when she was in the tornado with him.

Some times I keep on forgetting just how dark and brutal the show could get.

I've never watched Captain Planet, but one of my favourite youtubers in his videos talked about it for a bit. So, in one episode, a guy called Boris has to move to another town, and he doesn't have any friends here, which is why he naturally begins to take drugs. (lel)
He becomes a bit crazy, doesn't think about the consequences of his actions once (he burns down an entire kitchen I think), he even drugs her cousin or something like that by putting drugs in her sandwich.

BUT HAVE NO WORRIES, at the end he finally realizes drugs are bad and all's well that ends well !

I lied.

Holy shit that Tarzan death. I was always surprised they did anything like that in a Disney film of all things. Not only does that happen to him but that shot of his shadow is just pure brutality. I wish family-oriented media would take more risks like that.

Three words: Bridge to Terabithia.  The movie based on the book of the same name basically exist for the sole purpose of doing this.  The movie was advertised as a fantasy adventure made in the same vain as Chronicles of Narnia for some reason.  I suspect children who actually watched it would strongly disagree.

<_< You know I always hear about how people get surprised by Disney movies using dark themes but if you've ever actually watched the movies as an adult you'd see that it's actually extremely common. It's slightly masked by colorful characters and catchy songs but Disney movies, while not graphic, are always doing edgy things with their stories. Tarzan had Clayton's death and poaching scheme, The Lion King had Scar's whole backstabbing plot and failed rule after his usurping of the throne, even Princess and the Frog had a guy who bartered his soul to the spirit world regularly to do evil deeds as well as dealing with life after a father who supported the entire family died.

People always equate Disney with super happy censored crap and expect something like fucking Teletubbies out of it but their movies are rarely anything of the sort.

Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker. It's not kids media per se but it does have very light cartoony graphics, which is why I was quite taken aback when after defeating Ganon link stabs him right in the forehead and by further extension, the brain. The way he just lowers his arms and starts speaking in a weird, broken way is just so graphic imo.

In Star Vs the Forces of Evil season 2 there is an episode called Ludo in the Wild.

In that episode Ludo is basically starving and struggling to survive in the wilderness.

During his struggles he ends up being caught in a gigantic spider's web and meets a talking bug.

The spider ends up eating the bug, and bits and pieces fly out.

In desperation to get food, Ludo ends up trying to eat a little bit of it, and even says that it tastes pretty good.

I swear I am not making this up.

When I saw the thread title, I immediately thought "Mufasa and Clayton, definitely". I was rather shocked as a kid, and when I rewatched the movies just a few months ago, I still thought they were pretty brutal. :o

Another one that comes to mind is the village from Mulan.

While it's not the death of a specific character, it comes out of nowhere and right after a super cheerful song.  One moment, everyone's happy, the next, everyone's dead. Hits pretty hard.

Check out my art thread for some cute ponies, cookies and boops. img-34212-1-img-34212-1-img-34212-1-img-34212-2-fluttershy.png
