Amethyst Dawn stood in the corner of the main ballroom, wanting nothing to do with being at the Grand Galloping Gala. As one of Twilight's 5 students, she had been given a ticket to attend the event, which she knew was kind of a big deal. However, her shyness had overwhelmed her, and she practically had to be pushed out the door by her mentor to go. She looked down at the dress she was wearing and pulled out a book she had hidden under one of the folds to read.

"Why me," Silvermoon said annoyingly moving his bow tie, "stupid neck trap," he added. He hated going to things like this, he liked places like the Everfree forest, quiet with very little distractions. The only reason he got a ticket from Twilight was because he had been her 2nd student to graduate Starlight Glimmer being the first of course. He had kept in contact with her which led him to finding out she had 5 more students. He had only graduated a year ago. He was curious of who the other students were and made a guess towards an attractive mare who was reading, not that he thought of her that way but in most stallion's terms she was attractive. He decided to go talk to her, it wasn't like he knew any pony else. He trotted over to the mare, "excuse me miss, you don't happen to be one of Twilight's students do you," he asked

Amethyst immediately looked up and, stepping backwards nervously, accidentally dropped her book. Giving the unicorn an apologetic and embarrassed look, she quickly picked it back up and turned back to him. She wondered to herself, Why would he ask me that? How does he know I'm one of her students? Hiding half of her face with her mane, as usual, she stuttered to the navy blue stallion, "Y-Yes, a-am... H-H-How did you kn-know?"

"You read a lot of books..." he gestured towards the book, "...and I'm the last pony to graduate from her 'class' not only that...lucky guess," he gave her a friendly grin, "no need to be alarmed I'm not Tirek, but I do the same thing at these parties," he said rubbing the back of his head with his hoof. "I'm Silvermoon by the way," he said holding out a hoof for a hoof shake, "specializing in summoning magic and illusion," he added.

"U-Um, I guess th-that would c-c-certainly m-make your a-a-assumption a g-good e-e-educated g-guess, a-at least w-with the information a-at hoof..." But when he mentioned that he used to be Twilight's student, her eyes opened wide in amazement. "You used t-t-to be Twilight's st-student?" Amethyst realized she was staring, and quickly ducked her head anxiously. "U-U-Um, s-sorry... I-I'm Amethyst D-D-Dawn, by the way. Specializing in l-learning t-to create n-new sp-spells."

"No problem...and nice to meet you," he said putting his hoof down. This mare was definitely shy, and to make matters worse...he was awkward. He looked at her book, "what are you reading," he asked. This was the part where he would fail in friendship but he shrugged it off hoping she would answer.

Amethyst smiled in a shy manner, and levitated up the book. "The Fundamentals of Creating Magic Rhymes," she answered. "I kn-know its m-m-more of a l-lower-level spell wr-writing book, b-but its a-a-always g-good to go o-over the basics every few m-months." She actually thought that this stallion's awkward disposition was quite endearing, not that she had a crush on him particularly or anything.

"I agree sometimes it's great to back off from the hard stuff," he said, he tried to think of something to talk about, "so...how's life with princess...I mean I have kept in contact as best as I can but living in the everfree kinda makes it hard to mail letters and everything," he said. The everfree had been his home ever since he had graduated and he usually liked but it got lonely sometimes.

Being an ex spec ops agent for Luna and as a result having talked to the Lunar princess in a more casual manner meant that she would often invite him to these types of things in hopes to catch up on current events. But with Luna being quite busy greeting nobles he could not really approach her to chat. So he walked around the room spotting a couple of who he recognized as Twilight's students something he only knew because of Luna talking about them in a letter or when they got a chance to chat face to face. Though he did no know their names he decided to greet the two.

"Not everyday you get to meet Princess Twilight's students."

Bill walked amongst the crowd of flesh covered horses. He was amazed at the sheer mass of people here. He had no idea where he was of course, but the place had looked pretty cool from afar, and the looks he was getting from the ponies around him must have meant they wanted to be friends.

Bill looked around, and noticed a pair of studious looking ponies striking up a conversation, deciding they might provide some good banter, he rose up on his hind legs and skipped towards them.

Amethyst thought for a moment and replied, "Its d-definitely amazing l-living in a castle--- there are m-many more b-books in h-h-her library than a regular t-town library! And Twilight is v-very kind, a-and a g-great teacher... But i-its easy to st-stress yourself out w-worrying a-about if you are g-going to f-fail in your st-studies."

"Wh-What's it l-like living i-in the E-Everfree?" she asked in return.

Amethyst looked up from Silver as she noticed the two ponies walking towards them. But she hardly got a glimpse of them before immediately hiding half of her face behind her mane. This action was not because of rudeness, but social anxiety. Please don't be walking over to us, please don't be walking over to us, please don't be walking over to us...

Silvermoon looked at the mare, "it's great I guess...I mean it gets lonely but at least I don't have to worry about hurting any pony while there," he said as she covered her face with her mane. He looked at her concerned, "are you okay," he asked reaching a hoof out before a voice made him jump. He turned to see a batpony, "Sweet Celestia you scared me," he said looking at the pony, "you're a unicorn?" He said confused, he had only seen batponies with wings but never a unicorn.

Amethyst slowly opened her eyes, which she had squeezed shut anxiously, and looked back up. "A bat p-pony with a u-unicorn horn?" she asked curiously. "And h-h-how d-did you kn-know we were students o-of T-Twilight?" She cut herself off abruptly from asking more questions, not wanting to be rude, and looked down at the ground again.

Outside, a cloaked figure was lurking about the castle, planning his escape tactics. He had obtained a ticket to the gala, so getting into the castle would be no problem. His eyes darted about at several impossible options, before landing on one that might work. Looking up at a spiraling lookout tower, he nodded approvingly. It would be difficult, but the ground below it was just close enough to where he had opened the entrance portal to open an exit one. He figured there wouldn't be as many of the guard on duty in that area as the lower levels of the castle, and there weren't many other options rather than being caught with a stolen, glowing, ancient crystal by the many guards on duty in the rest of the castle.

Silvermoon looked at the pony, he was curious about how he knew they were students but by the looks of him he probably heard from Princess Luna. He looked back at Amethyst, he guessed she had social anxiety he had a friend like that, that friend had passed away recently due to shock. He didn't know what to do. He looked back and forth. What he did with his friend was talk to him and calm him down, but he couldn't just ignore everypony to comfort a pony a barely knew. He looked at the mare, well here goes nothing, he thought. "Hey can you excuse us for a moment I think she needs some fresh air." He said looking at the mare.

Amethyst looked up gratefully at Silver and responded, "Th-Thanks, b-but you don't have to c-come with me. I'll b-b-be right back..." She looked around for a moment before spotting the exit to a balcony, and heading towards it. When she got outside, she sighed in relief and looked around at the landscape in front of her. Looking up at the night sky, she smiled and gazed out at the stars. She was so preoccupied by the beautiful landscape, that she barely realized that there was a mysterious figure in the bushes below. She immediately looked down at and looked at the stranger, trying to figure out what they were doing in the bushes outside. But a second later, she lost sight of him.

The cloaked figure took out his ticket and carefully maneuvered his way back out to the front of the castle. He was like a whisper, hardly able to be seen in the dim light. Straightening his cloak but keeping the hood up, he walked up to the guards at the front of the castle and levitated his ticket over to them. The guard gave him a suspicious look because of his dark attire, but let him pass into the gala.

Indicus mentally scorned himself for being so abrupt. Indicus took a few steps back to look around the Gala nothing of any significant notice besides noble playing the political games ones that he knew but tried to avoid. Though for one such as himself being high ranking ex military personnel. One that used to work under Luna no less made him a target for nobles aiming to get in with Luna the rumors that they were involved with each other did not help neither did the rumors that Luna overlooked some of the crimes of a guild of assassins that he happened to run.

Fortunately he had nothing but a friendship with luna and the rest were just rumors and nothing that could be solidly followed to him or Luna. He paid good money to keep it that way. It was also a reason he approached two of Twilights students they would not know the rumors about anything about what he dose behind closed doors.

Bill diverted his track to follow the yellow mare that had parted from the group, sneaking up behind her, his paper bag barely crinkling, and whispered to her in a quiet yet raspy voice.

" See anything fun? Have been looking for some banter, but can't find any..."

Amethyst nearly jumped out of her skin with surprise. After catching her breath from the initial surprise, she slowly and shyly looked up at the pony talking to her... Or rather, the skeleton talking to her. Eyes opening wide, she stuttered, "U-U-Um... N-No, not p-particularly, I w-w-was just t-trying to g-get away from the c-c-crowd..." She realized she was staring, and looked downwards embarrassedly. "S-S-Sorry..."

"Also apologise, do not realise spook level. See anything?"

Bill looked over the balcony, then he realised something.

"Hey! You are magic horse! Am magic horse! Know cool spell."

And with that Bill lowered the horn on0 paper bag to the floor, and let loose a series of constipated grunts, until, suddenly, a steaming baguette popped into existence between them.

Bill looked up at the mare, hoping for a reaction.

Wh-Where d-d-do you come from?" she asked him curiously. She really wanted to know exactly what this skeletal pony was, but she didn't want to be so tactless and rude.

The cloaked figure entered the main ball room, scowling under the hood of his dark cloak at the scene around him. He scanned the area carefully, before slipping carefully though the crowd. He bumped into one or two other ponies, but simply grunted and kept walking in a careful and calculated way. Soon, he was at the other side and slipped out and around a wall, staying clear of the dark blue unicorn and the unicorn bat-pony.

Bill raised himself on his hind legs, raising the baguette he had summoned above his head, as if it were or sword or banner.

"Am Bill! Am Bill Statue! Am centuries old magic horse!"

Bill looked around to see if anyone else were basking in his awesomeness, but only noticed a little blob of black silk bouncing around the halls.

"Hey, other magic horse, look. It's an odd thing."

Indicus caught a glimpse of some cloaked pony hurriedly walking through the ballroom though only for a brief moment. He decided to worry about it later. Indicus walked off from his spot to get a drink from the refreshments table, and as expected wine, wine and alcoholic punch, he got himself some of the punch before resuming his habit of standing around. The occasional gold digger or reputation seeker trying to get his attention were easily dismissed with a few polite words and a nod. He knew their games alright, but he sure as hell didn't enjoy playing them.

Silvermoon...being a nightpony decided to head outside accidentally following the cloaked figure. He hoped there was a full moon his magic would be at its best if it was. He stepped outside to see the moon wasn't full but it was close. He sighed but saw a shadowy figure move across the area...hmmm

Amethyst turned towards the ballroom, and spotted the pony in a dark cloak. He was most definitely dressed oddly for the gala in his dark attire, and Amethyst tilted her head. "That is odd... Maybe he just, um, likes to wear dark clothing?" she said skeptically. But, as they kept watching him, he slyly slipped around a corner--- specifically, a corner that had a sign clearly saying that the public was not allowed in that area.

The cloaked figure saw guards ahead and smiled slyly. Celestia had, of course, placed the less experienced guards here as it was merely a passageway that led to much more important areas. It meant that the guards up ahead would be harder to get past, but for now he would simply use a sleeping spell. He had walked into the end of the hallway so carefully that he was unheard by the less experienced guards; he silently chuckled that they had not even bothered to watch the corner, as there were so many of them throughout the rest of the hallway that most ponies would be caught the moment they advanced through the hall. In a flash, he cast the sleeping spell on them, and once it took effect he slipped through.

Silvermoon sighed...as he would like to chase a bad guy he had other things to do...bid Twilight farewell and leave. These parties just weren't for him. He started his way to the front when he saw Amethyst outside, talking to what looked like a pony with a skull. Curious he made his way over to them. He knocked on the door as to not scare anypony. "How's it going out here," he asked realizing the pony with a skull for a head..."umm...what," he said confused.
