If MLP were rated TV-Y7.

Why not give it a hard NC17 and be done. Did you see Nostalgia Critic's review of the movie rating system? He made some good points.

Yeah, because TV-Y7 and NC-17 are in the same category.

The show is already TV-Y7 content in several episodes, especially the season premiers and endings.

Higher age rating that equals a better show, is a myth.

It's not the rating of a show, that makes a good show. If the writing team sucks and the episodes are bad, you can go to PG and it would not change anything about the show.

But there is a contradiction in the show. The ponies face mortal danger, like the hydra and chimera. But the ponies can't use lethal force to defend themselves. They rely on luck to get away. One of these days a chimera is going to eat a filly in the school yard. In a PG 13 show they could fight back.

This is my new signature.

No, I wouldn't. Because of today's television "philosophy", a higher rating means dirtier jokes. Even if it's for kids, they'll probably put some sort of potty mouth or something related. My Little Pony is not a mean-spirited show and would never have enough action to rate any higher than what it is now.

Eh; Disney already tried that back in the early 2000s with Atlantis. While most Disney movies get a G rating from the MPAA, that one got a PG for it's action sequences and multiple deaths. As we all know, Atlantis totally flopped at the box office (and it pains me to say that, I love that film).

As such having a TV-Y7 could be a good to have parents bar their younger kids from watching. That could be a financial disaster for the show.

I don't want the show to change it's rating from TV-Y to Y7 because MLP will always be a kind lighthearted show. There are exceptions though in some episodes were pushed into that territory but the bulk of the show has always been TV-Y. Will it make it better? probably not and the lack of good story doesn't make up for a higher rating.

It wouldn't be a good idea. "TV-Y7" usually means never recommended for young children (3-7), even though it's not legally enforced at all.

The way I see it, "caution used when viewed/played" (yellow light) means that age group will still be allowed to rent/purchase/view that media, but should be warned about what's inside it. I say a yellow light is reliable enough for the 3-7 age group for this show, with the TV-Y rating still in effect.

I thought it was already TV-Y7. At least that's what Moliminous claims in multiple jokes...eh, whatever. If it isn't Y7 then I fail to see how changing the rating to that would make much of a difference, if any.

This.

I don't really see much difference, plus some parents just don't pay attention until it gets to higher ratings.

I'm kinda surprised that Twilight vs. Tirek was TV-Y. But I wouldn't be opposed to it. Allow the show to grow w/ it's audience. A little more action, not a lot. Maybe some more serious themes and morals to help get across to kids. It would allow a little more leeway & depth w/ the writing.

Indeed. I'm not sure, but I think Alternate Chrysalis killed Alternate Zecora in the Cutie Re-Mark.

I'd say it depends on the individual episode. If they want to increase the stakes of the danger of the villain in the episode to TV-Y7, then fine. And as soon as it's back to a standard MLP episode, back to TV-Y. but only for special occasions.

Actually thinking about this, it could be a good direction for the show.

6 seasons in we are starting to reach the end of what kind of friendship problems that the characters can have and what kind of lessons they can learn.

If the show really wants to continue with a season 7, being able to tackle a bit more mature themes and morals could help keep the show fresh and allow for the mane 6 to grow in interesting ways, unlike how they haven't really grown much at all this season.

Yeah. TV-Y7 isn't going to affect the target audience at all. All it does is separate MLP from shows like Bubble Guppies.
