spoiler Did everyone feel sorry for Chrysalis? Or sorry for Starlight?

The one who truly deserves credit here is Discord for showing restraint given what Fluttershy was put through. Had he not held back and allowed Starlight the chance to talk to Chrysalis, she would be a lot more than destroyed. She would be whatever he chooses given his magic is on a much higher level than hers. Hers is a path of destruction and sometimes you have to let someone experience it until they realize there's another way.

Yeah, but the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony have had to deal with Chrysalis twice now with both the Royal Wedding and kidnapping them now to clear the way for a full-scale invasion of Equestria. They must have been furious with Chrysalis, but restrained themselves from thrashing her long enough for Starlight to try and reason with her one last time, and when that failed, I'm pretty sure many of them were prepared to see Chrysalis take advantage and escape their wrath before they could punish her.

The only way Chrysalis could be redeemed is if she experienced something that would change her view on things.

Yeah, but what are the odds of something like that happening to get her to finally repent?

With the writers, you never know what they will do next regarding the development of characters. For Chrysalis, I now see her as a sort of public enemy number one since she can no longer go back to her kingdom, and is certainly not welcome throughout the rest of Equestria.

That's the benefit of being a changeling.. She will just remain under disguise until she can recoop

Yeah, the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony will see to that now that she's pretty much pushed them too far with her recent actions. She ever shows her face in Equestria again, they'll be all over her before she can even retreat back to safer haven.

I think they were mainly comforting Starlight. At that moment they really didn't like Chrysalis much so I highly doubt they felt worried or concerned about her.

After everything she's put them through as of late, I would not put it past them to harbor a grudge for everything she's done.

Which is why Chrysalis will bide her time and wait for the perfect opportunity to strike.

Like she did here with kidnapping them?

Now that you mention it, I do find it odd that Chrysalis decided to wait for so long to enact her plan. I can understand her wanting to go bigger compared to last time, but couldn't she have tried it a little sooner?

Who knows? Perhaps she was just waiting until the right time to strike, like kidnapping them at nighttime when they would be asleep and most vulnerable to being captured, cocooned, and then not even remember what happened once they were free and could wake up, so Starlight had to tell them?

Probably because had a single changeling been spotted, it would have been all over. Thorax might actually have been the unwitting trigger to her plans. He had been spotted, everypony reacted INSTANTLY and protected the royal family at all costs. But after accepting him, their guard had all but relaxed, and so would the others'. Maybe Twilight actually tried to reason with them, only to be captured in the end.

This is all speculation of course, but given the scale of reaction Thorax's appearance had caused in the Crystal Empire, it might not be that far-fetched in some points.

But were they captured at night?

How can Twilight be the princess of friendship though if she can hold  a grudge? Twilight would need to forgive Chrysalis to prove she isn't a hypocrite.

She is the Princess of Friendship not perfection.

Plus you can't befriend everybody no matter how hard you try and nothing says you can't hold grudges, as long as you can move past them at some point..

~No profound statement needed~

What would Twilight have done if Chrysalis did decide to reform? Move on? Make an attempt t be friends with a former psycho?

But were they captured at night?

That's what some people believe happened. Starlight and Trixie's trip to Starlight's old village and back to Ponyville had to have taken several hours, if not a day or two. More than enough time for Chrysalis to kidnap them overnight.

Even Twilight is capable of holding a grudge since she isn't perfect. Right now, she and the others have a grudge with Chrysalis over what she did, and it has spread into a hatred towards her, but then Chrysalis prefers it that way. She wants them to hate her because it fuels her desire for revenge.

Again, that time constraint issue comes up.

Yeah, first there was the Royal Wedding, and now this. They did not even know Chrysalis was back and kidnapped them until Starlight told them after they were out of the cocoons and woke up. Once they knew what happened, it did not take long for that anger from the Royal Wedding to resurface and become hatred towards Chrysalis for what she had done now.

As for the time constraint, they probably had more to work with, but had to cut a good chunk out to fit the time frame. A three-part finale would have worked out better.

No, I think they were conscious within the cocoons although their depth perception was limited. Also, we know Luna knew they were back as she warned Starlight about it, so I assume the rest knew about the Changelings' coming back.

That's why I've been saying that a three part finale should be considered. Those ideas that had to be cut for time could've been retained had the option to go a part further been an option. Maybe the writers should consider it someday.

Conscious in the cocoons? They sure did not look like it. Must have been lethargic or still sleepy, so their depth perception was blurry and they could not tell what was going on until they were freed and fully awake and conscious again.

However, I do hope the writers actually consider doing a three-part finale or premiere in the future so all their ideas can be shown instead of being cut, rushed, or even mashed together because of time constraints.

We only saw them inside of them for a few moments so it's difficult to ascertain what they did and didn't see.

Yeah, and that's why I really wished they could have shown more of that and what actually led to it. Only showing them in the cocoons for a few seconds before showing them free of the cocoons later on feels like they rushed through without going into much detail on it.

I could use a changeling goop nap. That cacoon would do wonders for my insomnia. :D

I'm pretty sure that they were comfortable in the cocoons, despite their situation. Cadance looked like she was just fine, and it wasn't until Chrysalis planted her hooves on their cocoons and shifted their shapes slightly that it stirred Celestia and Luna a little bit.

Those things make you sleep forever and ever until someone sets you free.

Since the scene revolved around Starlight, Thorax, and Chrysalis, the others being in cocoons allowed them to be written out until they were needed again at the end.

Maybe King Thorax can open a sleep clinic in several Equestrian cities.
