I think that the movie has the potential to bring in an influx of new fans to the show. The second generation of bronies, so to speak (or would that be third gen, as Season 1-2 bronies might seem like the first generation of bronies, which I am a part of, actually xD).

Maybe in the future someone will actually create the ponies as super advanced robots. And before we know it half the worlds population are robotic ponies. But maybe it will solve most problems in human society.

Star Trek still hasn't done much of a blip on the radar and since it aged a bit it would be harder though it's been trying to make a comeback. With MLP we're seen as nothing more than an internet meme.

We are just another passing fandom in history much like Trekkies, Transfans and Star Wars fans. Those fandoms for example will always be around, no matter the state of their current representation in media and I think the fandom has grown in such a way that it will easily outlive the show and continue on expanding the universe and lore. However, it is just a pebble in the ocean that is the world, and there will always be new and different things appearing to capture our imaginations and draw us in just as this one has.

Nope, like any fandom we're doomed to extinction when time passes, with very few still holding on. Our numbers have been on the decline for awhile, and they will only get lower. Not to mention there are a few fandoms bigger than us, and haven't taken over the world with... what ever they have.

 

G4 is comin to an end, and G5 more than likely isn't going to be around the corner, it'll probably be awhile, and even when it does come we'd be lucky if it took place in the same universe, or have similar writing to G4. By the time a 5th generation does come out we'd more than likely be reduced from a great fandom, to an internet meme if we're lucky, forgotten in time if we aren't.

 

This is sad to say, but these are the facts, though that doesn't mean I want this to happen.

You know, on a different but not completely unrelated note, I've been contemplating whether a pony sci-fi series could work. We've had two more medievalish series, one set in the early 90s which was modern times at the time, and one set somewhere between post-colonialism and the early 1960s with its exact equivalent to a human point in history ambiguous at best. I'm not entirely sure a modern pony series could work since hooves and touch screens would have to mix and that just wouldn't end well. I would be intrigued by the idea of a pony series set in a high tech future. I mean, I guess the writers would have to find a place for both magic and technology in that series, but it's possible. I'd be intrigued to learn how the three races could fit into such a society.

 

As for the topic at hand though, alas, I just don't think the Brony fandom has that ability. We can maybe take over a significant corner of the Internet, and we have, but I just don't see us taking over the world. I'm sure another fandom that's older and larger than ours would have done it a long time ago if it was remotely in the realm of possibility. Ponies seems to be one of the series that helped pave the way for more imaginative and actually decent cartoons, thus reviving the cartoon genre and bringing it out of what I perceived to be the worst slump it had ever been in, as well as helping to revive true animation that isn't CG. The fandom itself is full of great people who are accepting of differences and have shown that we care about our world. Maybe it has inspired people to do great things. Ponies has played a role in helping change the world for the better IMHO. It just won't rule the world singlehandedly.
