http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris_effect

The tetris effect is essentially a mental habit developed after doing a visual task for prolonged periods of time. Like it describes on the wiki page, this habit causes the action taken in the visual task to occur on the edges of one's vision in some cases, and in one's dreams in other cases. It changes how a person thinks and how they react to the world around them without them knowing it.

I made this topic partly because I haven't found one like it yet, and partly because I replaced every character in a Clash of Kings with ponies (yes, even the shadow-baby scene) and did not realize that I did so until well after I finished the book!

Be honest here, how many of you have suffered from / enjoyed every second of the Tetris effect? I still have the image of a demonic shadow baby coming out of a red mare, so I'd have to say I suffered a fair amount.

Ever since April 5th, the candy-colored equines invaded my thoughts massively, and almost everything I thought of during the day was seconded with pony counterparts. Basically, my mind and thoughts have been ponified. And that was for the best.

My thoughts and eveything that I had a passion in being ponified is awesome!!! Unforutnately, I'm yet to have a good number of dreams about ponies, I'm highly dissapointed about this. :(

My journey in the fandom started on April 5, 2012. I joined here on April 24, 2012. Where that journey is headed now, who knows...

While I'm by all means an avid pony fan who will aways hold the series with high regard, I can't say that I ever truly devoted a sufficient amount time to MLP; at least not to the point where my thoughts were dominated by aspects of the show. Back when I first stumbled upon the series, my mind would routinely wander off to thoughts of the latest episode, or a particular character that I'd like to draw up, though this absentmindedness never progressed into something resembling an absolute absorption of sorts, likely because life commitments kept me occupied to the point where I wasn't able to engross myself within the Brony community. By the time I did engage more directly with the fandom (namely these forums), all the unconventional qualities which initially sparked my interest in the series had subsided to the point where the show no longer had a tendency preoccupy my thoughts on a regular basis.

While I'm likely the anomaly, MLP will likely always be a relatively laid-back hobby of mine, as opposed to something resembling an idée fixe.

Ever since becoming a brony ponies have been on my mind the majority of the time. I'm serious, I'm almost always thinking about ponies. Whenever I'm bored? Ponies. At work? Ponies. Waiting in que for a LFR or Heroic in Wow? Ponies. On the internet? Ponies. Reading fanfiction? Ponies. Ponies? Ponies.

This pretty much describes me. I'm almost always thinking about or doing something pony related. When I'm at work, I usually have a pony song stuck in my head and when no one's around, I'm often humming or singing.

It has not dominated my thoughts at all. The Tetris effect only works for Tetris on my mind. Ponies is a show that is on my mind, but not always. It doesn't dominate my life at all, It's mostly something I am busy with after I am home from school.

Ponies occupy the most of my mind every day, every hour. By choice, not by habit. I think about them because I want to, not because I can't stop doing it. I love thinking about ponies, and I don't know if it counts as the Tetris Effect if it's willingly moving your mind towards these thought as I do.

But yes, ponies is everywhere in my day. Always some pony song played in my headset, always a smiling pony on my laptop screen and always a song and matching scene stuck in my head. It's a joy to think about and they make my life easier, so why not?

Though I wish I was able to do more pony in my spare time. I only use about 5-6 hours a day on pony stuff in average. Simply, shcool and work is taking up the remaining time. I often used several hours a day just reading fanfictions, I barely read more than an hour a day now.

But well, I'm content with what I have, I think about ponies at every possible moment because I want to, and I enjoy doing so :3

I'm probably in the 1-6 hour range when it come to doing pony related things, but I don't think that I have the tetris effect. The only time I think about ponies is when I want to and they aren't in my thoughts all the time. I wouldn't mind having a pony related dream though.

I have to agree with Jalaton. I do spend quite a bit of time replacing characters from books and movies with ponies and the whole pony-ish setting, but only because I find the notion awesome. Kentares IV as Equestria and the mechwarriors as ponies....

Its increasing. I get somewhat pony dreams here and there, pony music stuck in my head some of the time, etc. I'm in the 1-6 h range, but id say its increased by a full hour this May alone

Ok, i put in 6-10 hours, but that is much because i have currently a crossover-project going, that includes ponies, and i tend to have any of my projects on my mind, ponies or not, much of my waking time.

This crossover is also my "other" entry in the poll.

Ponies are a major part of my thinking now. I've had pony-dreams, pony-daydreams, when I think about something I sometimes imagine myself or somepony else as pony, I automatically use pony-slang while speaking, and sometimes when I walk around not paying attention I think I've seen a pony. I also can't read a books except fanfictions at the moment, because they lack ponies.

OC was made by Princess Ariona.

I wouldn't say it's the Tetris Effect (which I admit I have experienced with Tetris), but when I got the game Fallout 3, the first thing I did was try to figure out which places in Fallout: Equestria were in Fallout 3. I also named my character Littlepip and used a character sheet so I could have the same stats.

Well, I only watch about an hour of MLP a day(sometimes more), but I do think about the show a lot, and have had dreams about it. But I'd say the show has rubbed off on me with its music, jokes, and endless quotability(I tend to say 'okey-dokey-lokey' like Pinkie Pie, 'eeyup' like Big Macintosh, and 'uh-huh' like fake Cadence, for example) more than the images of ponies themselves have invaded my mind.

Well the Tetris effect is basically a habit that's been developed from seeing or doing something visual several times. I'm pretty sure reusing quotes from the show enough times would be the same effect.

Heh...I don't think I've gotten that yet. Not enough ponies, I guess.

Or maybe not enough Tetris...why not both?
