Do you wanna see a robot pony join the show?

Maybe a crazy scientist create it to proof his genius or to proof that perfection can be real.

But then something goes very wrong. The robot pony start to think and to feel like a normal pony. The scientist say that it should'n think or even feel and deny it. Scared and sad escapes the robot pony . The scientist himself or herself burns the whole lab down to hide his or her mistakes, escapes and hide far away. Some days later that robot pony would reach ponyville after running around .

As first the ponies would be scared and disturbed like by zecora back then. But then the robot pony bumps accidetally into one of the mane 6.

 

And together they would try to find out it's origin, it's reason for beeing and how to handle a robot pony in a world full of real ponies.

 

Maybe they would try to find the scientist who created it and repair their relationship.

 

Maybe the scientist would react bad, try to attack and destroy it but would fail and escapes at the end.

 

Maybe the robot pony would get hurt really bad or would run out of energie and they have to save it.

 

That's my idea about an episode about a robot pony.

If I ever finish the story, my OC almost does something like this, his robot is not a pony, but a sort of bipedal horse-dragon thing.

 

I get the feeling that the MLP universe is somewhat like the Adventure Time universe. The planet has an ancient and mysterious past, but it doesn't appear that Equestrians do a lot of traveling beyond the borders of their own country. A race of robots could easily exist somewhere, or a race of highly advanced Atlantis ponies for that matter. We might never know, because the show isn't about that.

 

I could actually see an episode where Doctor Whooves builds a pony robot and trouble starts.

 

I could imagine there would even be a lesson about what exactly counts as life and what rights to life it has. Possibly a bit too deep for a kids show, but I can see it all the same.

 

If not that, you gotta wonder... where ever the Doctor is, Cyberponies can't be far behind.

 Perhaps a good substitute would be a pony created entirely from magic? One who perhaps isn't supposed to be really alive, but gains sentience over time? Still doesn't feel like something the show would do, having an entire episode focused on something like that, but it fits with the world better at least.

Both you can find over on my profile! But that's sort of the sticking point with this sort of thing. Don't think even an adult television show could handle either of these subjects well. To make a sentient robot you kind of need to mimic organic life somehow, so you'd need living matter to some extent (Or...magic, I suppose)  and hows a kid's show gonna explain a guy finding a disembodied brain?  What counts as life & what doesn't is something armchair theorists like me spend alot of their time with, but don't think is something you could ever come to a satisfying conclusion in any show that only has a half hour to work with!

 Where do the morals end or begin on such matters? If you can just haul off and tear a chunk out of Kaag and chew on it and it doesn't seem to care, does that count as disrespecting life?  Just raises too many questions!!!

Dunno if that'd be true for real life, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't necessarily need any organic material for a robot in a fictional setting. If the laws of the fictional universe allow a completely mechanical or magical being with no organic material to be "Alive" and feeling, it's fine.

Well, I'm not sure the moral of an episode like this would specifically deal with what counts as life or anything like that, it'd probably be some friendship moral of some kind instead.

 

 As for what counts as life, no idea. You could argue that kind of thing for days, but if you can reasonably believe that something might be "alive", I think it should be treated as such.

A robotic pony that is powered by magic. I don't see why that couldn't work. They of course could add little touches to fit it more into the world of FiM and that could work really well. I could see Starlight creating this thing accidentally with one of her many random 'pull out of her plot' spells.

Well that concept is very similar to how my OC works but magic is also known as universal energy by my thoughts. Universal energy is infact everywhere as it is possibly the very fabric of space time but all the ponies do in the show with it is manipulate and change the form of the universal loops in space time.

Given that robots have pretty much always been a thing since ancient peoples imagined them being made of armor, brass, clay, and mud, I wouldn't be against this possibility if they executed it in a way that's fitting with the show's setting, but only as a one-off character. It would be too much of a change of pace if this character made regular appearances.
