How come Luna has so much endearment towards children?

Though she didn't will it she got the attention of a lil colt named Pipsqueak who really liked her. She also gets involved with the CMC, I believe she got an episode for each and every one of the three. So why is she so willing to step out of the shadows to hang with the colts and fillies but not in other matters with adult ponies?

didnt she appear in starlight's dream in the season finale?

Yes. Yes she did. A huge scene that beautifully connected both characters.

I do see where the OP is coming from. The depiction of children and Luna makes sense because we associate children with dreams more frequently. Also, it was a good connective thread for three CMC eps. :)

Maybe her slight childish endearment displayed in Luna Eclipse gives her affinity with foals . Also, I'm not sure she's quite adult yet

The writers wanted to elaborate Luna's character, because she is popular in the fandom.

It's irrelevant, that Celestia would have been much more fitting based on her more motherly character. It's about which character shall be developed and which shall not.

Perhaps because children are more receptive to her? All the adults say they trust her and have forgiven her.. but have they? Does she fully believe they have...? Children, despite the stories are not nearly as fearful of her as the adults were, and were much more open to forgiving her.

I do sort of believe this was addressed in Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep when she was battling the Tantabus and revealed her fears of being a failure and not deserving of the townsfolk's trust. Since that episode we have yet to see if she prefers to be around children more still.

Also, children are the ones more likely to deal with difficult nightmares, and more likely to receive visits from her on that basis alone.

Even in the fandom, yes it is the children, the sweet naive innocent children, that she has an affinity for protecting.

No doubt her nose disappearing constantly is a sign she "nose" what's good for them.

Everyone knows that children like to stay up and have fun at night. Nobody else wants to enjoy the beautiful moonlight.

Luna has a child-like personality to me, or at least some child-like aspects, she seems to connect to younger ponies more which is perfectly fine. Also, she probably helps them more because they are most likely the ones that have these internal conflicts within their own dreams and with Luna being the grandmaster of the dreamscape, that works out.

Speaking as a Baby Boomer in my 60s who never had kids, adults that don't hang around kids much tend to see them in 1 of 2 ways.  One is "annoying little twerps that don't know how to behave properly because their parents have lost all control" That is, an unfunny Bart Simpson.  The other is to like them for their innocence & enthusiasm.  As someone once said "If we didn't think kids were cute, we would kill them & eat them"

Obviously, Luna falls into this group
