MLP Generation 5

I recently started a topic called the Potential of Flurry Heart. In this topic somepony made an observation that really stuck with me.

BlueStreak98 said and I quote. "

In the short term, I don't see much outside of marketing and products. In the long term? She could theoretically be the basis for an entire series.

Sometimes, a new baby can be a sign of a show running out of ideas, as it was with Bones, Mad About You or Fairly OddParents. So far, her minor role in the show indicates that might not be the case, but unless they try to spin her off into a separate show I'd be wary of her role growing too large."

The part that stuck with me most was that Flurry Heart could be the basis for an entire series.

I thought that Flurry Heart and other characters of her age like Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake could become the mane focus of Generation Five. We could see the Crusaders as adults. Twilight could have a larger role as a Princess and we could see a long overarching story line that could be left off from the fourth generation's series finale.

I, for one plan to still be apart of the fandom for the fifth generation and I hope the show doesn't revert to gen 3 level ( see Josh scorcher and doctor wolf's review of a very minty Christmas for an example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCD5eyQ8KX4&t=343s"

Anyway, tell me what ya'll think.

It would be interesting if they did that. Especially with the trend of either aging up cartoon characters or having a time jump. The Legend Of Korra did it twice. Httyd 2 did it. So yeah it wouldn't be out of the ordinary. Though personally I feel like they'd only make her a teenager. That way the mane six could still be important in her life. Especially since both her mother and aunt would be princesses. It would be interesting to see. We also might finally see if Twilight is immortal like Celestia and Luna. If she looks the same then it would probably be reasonable to say she didn't age because alicorns are immortal.

Maybe a G5 new show.  Even successful sitcoms tend to have a lifespan of 5-10 years & the best of them walk away before a total collapse of ratings forces it.

They've got enough to start with.  Flurry Heart, the Cakes, Spike & Ember, they could time jump say 15-20 years & revitalize the show. IMO, G4 the writers are getting tapped out.

It'd also be interesting to see the main six be older. Because if you time jump 15 years they could be married and have there own kids. And we could see if Twilight would be immortal. If she hasn't aged then it would be reasonable to say she has the same type of immortality has Celestia.

That's what I'm kinda afraid of from some point of view.

It would be a nice story progression to see them as adults and stuff... bit it just wouldn't be the same anymore... I don't want to see them grow up and eventually 'end' their story. I'd cri evritiem. I have grown up myself and that's enough of adult stuff for me. I love to see the freedom they have ~ and.. yeah.   :P

By the way, I have never watched previous generations, nor liked what I saw by looking at images of those generations, but I gotta admit, that after watching the YT movie you linked, I think, that the one they were reviewing is not that bad. It's pretty likeable to be honest.  :P Though of course, not as good as G4.  :-P

They might do it like Fringe/Phone as and Fern. In Phone as and Ferb they time jumped near the end. Just so show Phineas and Isabela getting together. In Fringe the last season skips twenty years in to the future. But it takes place more or less separately. It would be cool to see if Twilight is actually immortal or not.

Well, I think it would be out of the ordinary for the MLP franchise. So far, each Gen was a complete reboot - each time a pony generation was introduced, it had a new cast of characters and a new story set in a new universe (CO-CO-COMBO: all of this drawn in a different art style).

While I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to FiM, I think Hasbro is more likely to stick to the old reboot formula.

I was just saying that it seems to be a trend in cartoons now. But I see your point. If G5 was just going to be a continuation there would be no reason to reboot it. It would just appear as the ninth season. The entire point of a new generation is to try new ideas Rembrandt yourself.

Branching off from the same generation wouldn't lead to a new one? Just an expansion like a G4.5. I don't know how that would work out but I'm not sure how much interest there would be in such minor characters growing up. The CMC club growing should be a given though.

Its possible it could appear as a mini series. Or it might be continued in comic form.

Personally, I would want g5 to star Sunset Shimmer. Maybe adult Flurry, pound, Pumpkin, and the cmc could be the other mane characters, but I feel Sunset shoud have g5 as center pony, like Twilight does for g4

Did OP even mention Susnet Shimmer? Also I doubt EQG would be shown as a sequel series. At most EQG might expand in to a mini series.

Hasbro tends to reboot their franchises to a degree when it comes to changing from generation to the next. Sure, they maintain some loose continuity by making subtle nods towards trends that they refuse to get rid of, but much of the time they want to simply start fresh. It's their way of ensuring the new toy line can hold its own without the older one becoming an issue later. They are a business first and foremost so money will be their prime directive. Do I want to see generation five break this tradition? I'd like it since generation four has broken so many barriers.

I think Hasbro might try and recreate the success of G4. If they do it right they can double there audience. So they'll make more money.

The funny thing about trying to do something like that is that it usually ends up not meeting expectations. Something like generation four of MLP is a once in a lifetime thing. Replicating its success would be near impossible since a fifth generation would merely be adapting a successful formula without striving to break new ground, and the fandom may or may not respond in kind. Would Hasbro still consider an attempt? Since money is involved then that would be a definite yes.

If a company can increase its potential audience it will. Especially when Hasbro knows that brownies will at least watch the show. But they will do something new. The characters, the story, and the setting will change.

I could see it going sort of like The Lion Guard is for Disney, or Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood for PBS. Both shows have loose ties and occasional appearances of characters from older programs, but both shows are otherwise completely independent, with new adventures and lessons and all that.

Why is everyone STILL think a potential FiM sequel will be G5  :eww: ? Seriously guys . I don't see Megan in any G3 movie, nor FiM; nor a multocolored mane Rarity in FiM, G4 Pinks being the same G3 Pinks, nor Scoots being Cheerilee's younger sister.

ANYWAYS, I support the idea of a FiM time-skip sequel with a bigger involvement of McFlurry  :nom:

You also didn't see either of the G1 TV shows running for seven years and being mentioned at the Tony Awards. It took them over a decade to manufacture an online presence for little kids alone before G4. But now? Well, look at this place.

I'm not saying they're going to be able to reach the same heights as they did with G4, or that they're even going to shoot for the moon at all. But comparing the transitions of previous generations to the future G5 transition isn't that simple; the circumstances could not be more different.

That's not what I meant. What I meant is that, why in every FiM discussion I see people still thinking it will have to change to generation 5? You know, if that happens, I highly doubt we'll change generations. It'll still be G4, or G4.5 at most

I think it is starting to become time to wrap up FIM and possibly start a G5. But the next gen may not be a sequel to FIM.

My bad, made some mistakes in my writing. What I've meant to inform is that it's ridiculous to think that a FiM sequel would be in G5, at most it'll be G4.5. G5 WON'T continue FiM's story, it'll be stand alone

I think it is more mistake my writing than yours.

I agree that G5 may not even continue FIM's story, and that I think FIM should wrap itself up pretty soon as well.
