Why did Hasbro choose to screen "Equestria Girls" at the LA Film Festival?

Sometimes, I wonder why did Hasbro or the staff choose to screen the "Equestria Girls" film to the Los Angeles Film Festival.

Was it because they wanted to win a competition, to make their film seem more prestigious (as it was premiered in a film festival instead of an ordinary cinema), or simple to advertise their film?

And what would be the difference if they instead screened the "Equestria Girls" film in an ordinary cinema?

Screening a film at a festival is a lot easier than screening it nationally in cinemas. They probably just wanted to advertise the film without having to spend money on distribution and in-theater advertisements,  For a (relatively) low-budget film like EG that's a massive risk. But a festival is cheap, short and still provides pretty good exposure.

Hasbro wanted to get some more exposure for its new property, and thought that a film festival would have been a good way to do so.
